vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 5 Released

vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 5

THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE.
IT IS UNSUPPORTED.

If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, DO NOT INSTALL THIS BETA VERSION

After an extended period of fixing bugs and polishing features, it's time to bring you what we hope to be the final beta release of vBulletin 3.7.0 before we go to the release candidate stage.

Customers running prior versions of vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta should upgrade as soon as possible, to ensure that any known problems are eliminated.

Conversation
vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 5 introduces the Conversation feature; a means by which visitor messages posted between two users on each others' profile pages can be viewed in a unified form. Look for the 'View Conversation' link on visitor messages to use the feature.

Significance of a Beta Release
This is beta software. If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, do not install this beta version.

Customers should bear in mind that this is a public beta, not a certified 'stable' release so the following caveats apply:
  • Beta software is unsupported and you install beta versions at your own risk.
  • Some minor bugs remain unresolved at this time, so beta software should not be on production sites.
  • You should always back up your database fully before attempting to install beta software.
  • If you choose to install this version, you should be aware that we plan to release new beta versions in rapid succession as bugs are fixed and holes are plugged. Do not install this beta version if you are not willing or able to keep up-to-date with new releases.
  • The ImpEx import system does not support the 3.7 code yet, and will not support it until the release of 3.7.0 (stable).

I might install this soon, although people must remember that this is not the best time for a release...

aseer_al7ob 02-14-2008 12:42 PM

Iam waiting Gold version

Marco van Herwaarden 02-14-2008 01:07 PM

Before there will be a "Gold" version there will first be 1 or more RC (Release Candidate) versions.

nexialys 02-14-2008 01:11 PM

end of Beta just mean end of additions... does not mean end of debugs... :)

i did not check the codes yet, be sure i will find some problems to be solved... lol

skrazydogz 02-14-2008 01:18 PM

I waiting of gold status too :-/

cheat-master30 02-14-2008 01:22 PM

Forgot to just add that I have finally upgraded my version of vBulletin with no problems at all.

skrazydogz 02-14-2008 01:26 PM

yes i have 90 Hacks installed and i think they not compatible with vb3.7

KURTZ 02-14-2008 01:43 PM

on my board i've installed some hack ... fortunately they are ALL compatibles ... (i only disable the hooks system before the upgrade and all runs correctly)

nice job (many bugs are "solved")

MrPHD 02-14-2008 01:56 PM

Installed, working and stay 100%. regards
I´m a worker and i don´t understanding nothing about vBulletin.

WFZ 02-14-2008 02:16 PM

Why is this not the best time and when is there really a best time, anyway? LOL

Also just upgraded and it went smooth and fast.

Michael Biddle 02-14-2008 03:26 PM

Upgraded as well. Took a wopping 8 clicks I think.

Tefra 02-14-2008 03:27 PM

On the other hand i believe it's a good day for release, i will probably upgrade this weekend. From what i managed to check most of the important new hooks have been added (or at least those i was expecting), there won't be any major template edit from now on, since no other features will be added so vb3.7.0 b5 here i come lol.

I don't know about you but I missed half of a commercial message on TV while upgrading. I am upset to say the least. ;)

Time for a nap now. That button clicking has worn me out.

when will be released the vbulletin 3.7.0 stable??

dreads 02-14-2008 06:33 PM

Hopfully soon, yet i probly wont upgrade till i know its safe in book

Boofo 02-14-2008 06:43 PM

Hopefully this will be the last beta and we can move on to the RCs. As far as my small site goes, it has been stable for me since beta 3. I upgraded to beta 4 the day after I installed beta 3, actually.

im sort of a noob

once you are into the "rc" stage, does that mean its a "stable version" or is that the final step before it becomes stable?

ZeroHour 02-14-2008 08:58 PM

They really need to do something about the social groups and just the general way people are notified etc. My members dont really notice if anyone has posted there at all.
For that reason I hope there is at least *1* more beta :p

Semi personal reason about a lack of internet access, but still managed to upgrade site to vBulletin 3.7 beta 5.

RC = Release Candidate

That means it's in the final stages and most of anything that was added has already been done. This is the serious bug-finding stage. Hopefully a lot of them have already been found and corrected. The RC versions are supposedly more stable than the betas although I have found the last couple of betas pretty stable.

ok i got ya.

might i assume the bugs in the RC stage wouldnt be big enough to worry about too much? just minor inconvienences, not obvious, error causing bugs that would seriously affect the members?

thank you sir!

Boofo 02-14-2008 10:00 PM

It depends on how vb savvy you are and if you are willing to put up with a little discomfort every now and then. If you can paste and copy, then all you have to do is check out the bug reports for any fixes on the com as they happen and you will be fine. Like I said in the post above, the last 2 betas have been fairly stable for me. But then I run a small board so I don't get the beating a bigger site gets. I say...Go for it! ;)

Why are you posting this here? I answered it in the other thread.

I bet you my board is smaller :)

Yeah, I'm comfortable with all that.... thank you for your help, I appreciate it

Boofo 02-14-2008 11:52 PM

If you run into any problems let me know. Chances are I will have already found them and have the fix for it. ;)

halkum 02-15-2008 03:57 AM

Upgraded with no issue. The fun upgrade was from 3.6.8 to 3.7.0b4. The 5b was piece of cake. All my mods work great, had to do a little configuring nav bar wise and such after reverting templates, but its all good.

rinkrat 02-15-2008 04:14 AM

I live on the edge and install these the day they come out! :)

Boofo 02-15-2008 04:17 AM

You are such a rebel! ;)

Sorry to be pedantic but I think it's important in this case... RC's should NOT be the serious bug finding stage!!! Betas are the serious bug finding stages. A "Release Candidate" does exactly what it says on the tin, it's a candidate for release and is a final safeguard to spot any final bugs.

In an ideal world all bugs are fixed after the last beta, and then a RC is released without bugs - that RC then goes Gold/RTM and Bob's your cousin's father. Of course in many cases there'll rightly be several RCs just to ensure that all bugs are indeed caught - but when a RC is released with no bugs (or just a couple of minor ones that can be fixed without having an impact elsewhere), then the code is ready to go Gold/RTM.

I know - I need a slap for being so pedantic, but it's happening more and more where RCs are treated like Betas, and final software is treated like RCs, and I think it's healthy just to stop and think about each part of the design/release cycle of software - to set expectations correctly and to back up programmers/coders when users/owners are expecting too much.

Oh, and happily been using 3.7b3 since its release without any issues - will be upgrading to 3.7b5 this weekend!
