When you say growing rapidly... how so, do you mean? With that small of a forum (currently), you could probably get away with shared-hosting. No need to spend the money on a VPS if it's not needed, IMO.

Yea there really is no need to purchase a VPS with that many members... I run my site (36000+ members) on shared hosting.

You really don't need a VPS yet at this stage, but I can recommend a webhost for shared and/or cheap-end dedicated servers.
www.crissic.com has decently priced shared, and their support is awsome. Been using them for a long while now and cannot complain. They also have decent dedicates, so if you go with them for shared, they can easily move you off to your own dedicated once it is actually needed. They also have some dedicated sales: http://crissic.com/dedisales.html Pentium 4 512MB DDR RAM 60GB HDD 2000GB Transfer 5 Dedicated IPs $49.99 per month -- just within your budget. They have more expensive servers, as well as a cheaper server for $39.99. They are based over in Pennsylvania, USA |
No need for a VPS yet, but you recommend a dedicated? Doesn't make much sense.

Theoldwiz how many posts do you get every day and on average how many users are online? Because looking from your forum stats, it doesn't looks like you need a VPS.

I get around 100 posts a day
Around 10-15 users online I have the arcade, a chatroom and all these other mods too |
Then you aren't even close to needing a VPS yet. You are fine on shared hosting, as long as you stay away from those large ones like HostICan and Bluehost that use programs that jip you out of your resources.

I agree with most of these posters, there's no need at all for a VPS right now. And if you don't know how to run a VPS, it can be quite a hassle.
Ask your host how many concurrent mySQL connections they allow...then multiply this x2 or x3 and you get a general idea about how many users on-line you can have at once. |
Well Im with hostgator and they are one of those big ones

I've been with rapid vps for a while now and I have to say I love those guys. You don't really need a vps, but if you are looking for the access and control of the vps you can definitely go with the 9.99 level 1 plan at rapid. That's what I started on and now I'm up to a rapid3. Its very easy to change your plan or even upgrade to dedicated plans and the tech support is great.

None of the above. Jaguar PC.

I am with mxhub.com . So far so good. No complain.

Thanks for the help so far :)

Hello OldWiz
I am not sure if you considered the other side to owning a VPS, you also have to manage it or pay additional for management services if you don't know how to keep up with a Linux server. And additionally, I don't think you need a VPS at this time. Many of the users that have purchased a VPS from us find out that running a VPS is more costly than good quality shared hosting which achieves the same performance of a VPS. |
