Hi guys!

i have made a product / plugin for show any quoted posts from that post and not only the quote of the post in question.

I have realesed 2 xml files:

1) Is the product (product-nested_quotes-1.0.xml):

You can enable/disable for each forum this features.

Install:

Go to: AdminCP -> Plugins & Product -> Product Manager -> Import Product
Select the file "product-nested_quotes-1.0.xml" and upload.
Go to: AdminCP -> Forums & Moderator -> Forum Manager
Click Go on one forum and see on the bottom of page for set the options.

2) The plugin (plugin-nested_quotes.xml):

Enable for all forum this features.

Install:

Go to: AdminCP -> Plugins & Product -> Download / Upload Plugin
Import the xml file: "plugin-nested_quotes.xml"

So this is like 3 layers as opposed to the standard 2?

answer my own post, its as many layers as need be, works great, installed :)

I have a question, can we force the plugin to only nest up to certain amount of quote layers?

Because this could easily be abused to make giant squares in the forum.

Would it be possible to add a limit? I don't want to have infinites quotes, but only letting, for example, nest 6 quotes.

Thanks, that's solved a really annoying problem for me. I don't understand why VB didn't give us an ACP option for it in the first place?

But I agree with the above that being able to set a maximum amount of previous quotes would make this mod perfect. Any chance of an update please?

Is this MOD working on vBulletin v3.8.0?

I have always hated this but we just had a member to request it. I may have to have it reworked a bit to suit our needs. If it is not working in 3.80 3.81 give me a PM and I will give it or share it or have the coder share with all when it is and with any modifications like limiting the nest.

Question about Nested Quotes installation:

Does one need to install both the product and the plugin? Or only one of them?

And how well does it work in 3.8.0 or 3.8.1? Where would one look for controlling how many levels of nesting to allow?

I too would like to know if this works in 3.8. 0 and 3.8.1 and also if we can controll how many levels of nesting to allow. If it works in 3.8.0 and we can control how many levels to allow, then I'd love to have this! Could someone please let me know? I'm very new at this and don't understand all the technical language...

It does work in 3.8X and I think it does not have level control but we will soon add some code to do this is some one else does not first.

Failing that, would it be possible to edit the product file so as to hardcode some maximum depth of quote? Has anyone tried that?

No idea about editing or hard coding the files and would not know if I looked at them. We are in the middle of some complex code right now and will be out of it soon and may try to fix this prior to starting the next big project. If anyone in the paid section is reading this that is a real coder and not a lamer and wishes to work for fair money contact me about fixing this till we can get our coder freed up.

I read the source code of this nested-quotes add-on, and I found that it's indeed designed to be switched on and off forum-by-forum and not in vBulletin Options.

So I was mistaken in considering it broken in 3.8 -- it's functional in 3.8 as far as I can tell. I was thinking of another nested-quotes add-on that is controllable from within vBulletin Options, and I mixed up this one and that one.

i have a question..
first one is if i want to choose which forums should use this?
and the second one will "activate" this for all forums?

so can import only the second if want to use it for all of them?

I did find an issue with 4.0 that I'm hoping someone can tackle!

When I open "new Article" in the CMS, I get the following error:

Ever since I migrated a website from phpnuke/phpbb2 to vbulletin, the users have been complaining of the lack of nested quotes. Added this to vbulletin 4.0.5, works great. The "Create Article" bug another vb4 user mentioned isn't affecting me.
