Arcade add ons here are free. Some gallery ones are, but the pro versions are paid. You install vB by editing the config.php file and then running the install script. For more information, see:

http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/install

double_d 01-02-2008 10:06 AM

that was quick
what do you mean by pro
is there an arcade
then a pro arcade ??

That's for the galleries. All the vBulletin compatible arcades are free. Anything downloadable at vBulletin.org is free. For example, this arcade mod is free:

In order to install or use vBulletin, you will first need to purchase a license.

you can view our pricing options and order at: Order Form

editing the configuration file
has got me a little worried

$config['Database']['dbname'] This value should be altered to state the name of the database that will contain your vBulletin installation on the database server.

$config['Database']['technicalemail'] An email address should be entered here. All database error messages will be forwarded to the email address provided.

$config['MasterServer']['servername'] This sets the address of your database server. On most installations the database server is located on the same computer as the web server, in which case the address should be set to 'localhost', otherwise use the address of the database server as supplied by your web host.

$config['MasterServer']['username'] This variable contains the username provided to you by your host for connecting to your database server.

$config['MasterServer']['password'] The password that accompanies the database username should be entered here.

not exactly sure what this means

It very easy to install ,I have never run a website before lastmonth ,and purchased VB because I wanted to start of with what was considered the best forum software ,and was up and running in no time (and I am a major noob) ,well I had a few troubles but that was me putting in the wrong data base details in the install.php . The support for Vb is some of the best of its kind ,I mean you have a problem and within at least 20 minutes of posting your problem on the VB support forums you have an answer, and you can allso find many soloutions to your problems by just doing a search of the Vbulleting Customer forums.

As for the arcade games they are a 3rd party addon, and not supported by vbulletin themselves, but are supported here were all the most popular and stable mods are supported, I am yet to install the arcade games ,but will mostlikely do so when VB 3.7 comes out, because it has been something that has caught my eye here for a few weeks haha.

So any querys on Vbulleting itself I would suggest you head over to http://www.vbulletin.com/ and poke around there forums ,for addons like arcade games ect ,then this is the place to hang out.

As for a gallery ,my suggestion would be to purchase a premium 3rd party addon ,like photopost pro http://www.photopost.com/ I recently purchased this software 3 weeks ago and found it to be very easy to setup and doese exactly what I want it to do ,while still using the same VB data base .

So for VB forums software go to http://www.vbulletin.com/
For addons -mods-hacks then you here now ,in this site.
For a gallery that intergrates into Vbulleting ,then I suggested Photopost http://www.photopost.com/ ,but you may find free allternatives elsewere like here .

I hope this helps ,because I went thru what your going thru only lastmonth, and I dont regret using VB for a minute.

If you haven't purchased, how do you have a copy of config.php? ;)

To comment on the installation, it's very easy. All step by step, and the manual will also guide you through it.

double_d 01-04-2008 03:00 AM

i didnt have the config.php file then smarty pants

what i posted was what i read in the instructions
and i wanted someone to help me understand what each line meant

It's best that you don't jump into conclusion Dismounted. He got that info from this site

double_d,

I do apologize what Dismounted said. However, adding an add-on to vBulletin aren't hard as all. We help each other, however, if you're not a patient person. You're always welcome to hire someone to do this for you. I remember when I was new to the vBulletin world. Days, by days, I manage to understand and how to add stuff by my self. Now, it's easy. Follow instruction, and you'll do great.

All of the modification that are release on vBulletin.org are free, but you're welcome to click on their link and get some of their premium stuff. You're always welcome to donate for their hard dedicated work. ;)

Ah, please accept my full apologies, double_d. I hadn't realized that you had pulled that bit from the manual. Sorry if I had come down as "smart", but we have a strong stance on piracy.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Although, I haven't (and don't plan to) read the manual from cover to cover :p.
