About the paid addons forum...

Sorry to reopen this discussion, but it was said a couple of months ago that vB.org would discuss internally about a forum where people could advertise commercial mods to vBulletin, kinda of a directory of commercial mods that would help everyone.

This was discussed and decided it won't be done?

Paul M 12-19-2007 09:53 PM

As I recall, it wasn't actually dismissed, but isn't planned atm.

Dream 12-19-2007 09:56 PM

Oh ok, the discussion on the other thread made it look to me like it was, thanks.

Where is the best place to see what kind of commercial mods there are for vbulletin. I seem to come across a new one every month or so that i've never heard of

Marco van Herwaarden 10-21-2009 08:20 AM

Google.

Google and I have become BFFs. :D

I'd be all for a commercial releases forum. There are probably dozens of good commercial mods for vb that i've never heard of.

Hornstar 11-01-2009 08:02 PM

This would benefit many, so hard to find all the commercial products through google.

Not really, do a few keywords in conjunction with "vBulletin" and see what comes up but every now and then a site I had no clue about surprises me :p

Then you would have all the people who don't realize vB.org has nothing to do with it and will come complaining when something doesn't work as planned.

Depends. Personally, i'd go with some sort of solution whereby you have a forum for people to post comercial mods into but request that they provide a link/links to their own website for downloads and support. The post on vbulletin would literally only be an advertisment.

yep, totally see that. And nevermind mods with security issues. Too tricky for vb.org to get involved with

DieselMinded 11-04-2009 03:50 PM

if vborg adds a commercial section i bet the free sections quality and content will decrease dramatically

TNCclubman 11-04-2009 05:08 PM

yep, good point.

CarlitoBrigante 11-12-2009 01:31 AM

I think the same.

Winterfell 11-12-2009 03:05 AM

I once made the mistake of offering to sell a theme for a website of mine which I had discontinued, and I got a spamming infraction for it; I kind of scratched my head at that as the post was in the old review thread for the website, but I didn't bother objecting it. Having a paid section—assuming it covers themes as well—would have been handy in that situation, as I don't maintain a separate website to sell pre-made themes; all my jobs are one-off designs for clients.

Not to be a smartass (okay maybe just a little...) - but that's already happened... I think adding a paid add-ons section (on the otherhand) will increase the quality content shared on vB.org. Who wouldn't pay $5, $10, $15 for a really awesome add-on? I've paid for several actually... But at the same time - it's a bit of a conundrum, as we rather like the concept of people sharing their wonderful works for free. Uh oh ==> welcome to capitalism LOL -- Then you have to think of the recent vB license increase and one of the most logical conclusions you can draw is = If it's good for the gander - it's good for the gaggle =) --- Why not allow the awarding of real, actual money to the coders and designers and modifiers of vBulletin for their wonderful works?

Jacquii.
