Goldbrick Audio/Video Media System

Goldbrick Media system for vBulletin 3.7

Thanks to all who nominated or voted this for MOTM.

Some of you might be looking for Anymedia. Well this has replaced it. It's a total rewrite from the ground up. A huge thanks goes to Sir Adrian for creating the framework. He can't cook soup but he sure can code. :)

Why the name goldbrck?

From Wikipedia:
Quote:

Goldbricking, in today's terms, generally refers to staff who use their work internet access for personal reasons while maintaining the appearance of working.
From Urban Dictionary:
Quote:

Goldbricking: To loaf or goof around on the job. Supposedly an old union term describing laborers (or more specifically, bricklayers) who were going so slow, it was as if each brick were made of solid gold. One can alse be referred to as a "goldbricker".

Dude, I spent all day at work goldbricking - surfing the web, making long distance phone calls - basically just picking my ass.
Goldbrick uses the following third party Products:

woot! looks awesome!! can I ask:

- any potential serverload issues for big boards? (does it add many queries)
- php5? doh! what happens with php4..it just not work at all?
- usergroup based permissions?
- youtube like interface would be AWESOME!! can't wait for that one. :)

-One of goals of this was to write it for big boards. If you have vb's postcache on there are no queries for viewing. If you have it turned off, all the media info is stored in the database so it won't have to retrieve it with each view.

-Goldbrick was written with php5 new class additions.

- Yep. Individual forum permissions also. For video sites you don't want to allow just remove them from the sites folder. Extensions permission are the Goldbrick section.

- Yup.

I've noticed some phrases that still need to be done. I'm doing those now.

iogames 12-18-2007 11:38 PM

Well I will stick to the big guy

FleaBag 12-18-2007 11:40 PM

The future features sound good but I think I will stick with AME for now. Good work though! :)

awesome. :) thx!

srry on more question:
- isn't this gunna conflict with 3.7 lightbox? how's that work?

Suggestion:
would love to see this with somekinda HIDE (with permissions) mod.

since this opens up so many opportunities and incentives to upload directly to our site (a good thing!) ...it also would be great to have control of how they download/access as well.

eg: need to post before can see the download for an mp3. etc

in any case... great work!! can't wait for this to go gold. :) (as in not beta...as opposed to goldbrick. lol ;))

Me too.

paulmjno 12-19-2007 05:58 PM

Precisely what does this do? How do users enter media? Thanks.

katie hunter 12-19-2007 06:07 PM

Nice hack nix, i will just wait for the readme to know what is it about exactly and how to use it cause I installed it and have no idea how this is used.

Thanks!~

SwollenCranium 12-19-2007 07:12 PM

Yeah nice hack but ..

Does not work on first refresh of page.

Shows the link only, then requires a refresh to get the link to change to media.

In lieu of. This uses highslide. I'm going to make a version that uses vb lightbox.

I'll get one out soon. To use it though just take a link from say youtube and post it. The mod will do the rest.

Same here :/

HazardGaming 12-20-2007 08:37 AM

As it would seem, you cannot edit a post then put a new video in it. Also, you cannot edit a video to be a different video site.

New posts and new threads are the only way ATM.

Aeolian 12-20-2007 02:14 PM

awesome mod!!
does it play mp3/media attached file as of yet?? before i kill myself trying (i been for past hour)!!
trials!!
thanks!

req2d 12-20-2007 05:17 PM

Yes it does. Move attachments to the file system and make sure you add the mp3 extension to vbulletins attachment manager.

Yea, haven't added that yet. But I'll get it.

Right now with only. I'll be adding the without here shortly.

Aeolian 12-20-2007 07:22 PM

but vb 3.7 has light box by default :/ isn't it redundant..
