Spiders possibly? Those buggers find their way into the oddest of pages.

Isn't it true that if someone tries to get to the forum or a thread in the forum, they will get a Not Allowed notice, but they will still get listed as being 'in' that forum/thread.

TigerWare 12-15-2007 03:28 PM

Have a look at the Who Is Online screen. It will probably show you more info, ie: an error indicator next to the 'guest/spider' name.

DieselMinded 12-16-2007 09:53 PM

It lists user names as viewing on bottom of the forum , they shoudlnt even beable to try to access it ,

Having a forum not visible is not the same as having a forum closed for posting. If the forum is just not visible, anyone who knows the forumid can get to it.

TigerWare 12-16-2007 10:08 PM

If you 100% certain that you have logged in users able to view a restricted area, I can only suggest that forum permissions are screwed up.

Create a user account for testing and give that test user the exact same usergroup permissions as another user you have seen on the list. Login with that test user and look.

I usually find that that the permissions of usergroups is the culprit in gaining access to areas you don't expect. I've given registered users access to Administrations Forums before now. It's quite easy to do. But a test user account will usually show up any holes in the logical structure you [think] you have implemented.

That too, which is a very good point.

DieselMinded 12-16-2007 10:15 PM

Ive signed in under each user group and cannot even see the forum

Right now it says 2 viewing

Theres NO POSTS AT ALL IN THERE , and the forum says never and only admin mods and keelhauled users have any permissions Everyone else cant even see it

The 2 users in there are in different user groups

And when i click on there profile i see Searching forums

I think When ever a user searches forums It shows them viewing this forum One is a Mod and i asked him and he said he hasnt been in there in weeks

Now theres another user group in there , Thats All my Groups looked at his online status and it shows Searching Forums Query: ladder bar @ 07:11 PM

IT seems when ever anyone searches the board it shows them viewing this forum , ITs the last forum on the board

Whats the Deal HEre?

TigerWare 12-16-2007 10:33 PM

Well I have no idea, but I still think your forum permissions may be out of whack. Have you duplicated "exactly" a user that you have seen reading that section and logged in using that account? If you have done this and you cannot see the section, nor access it by typing in the URL, then I really don't know what the problem is.

DieselMinded 12-16-2007 10:47 PM

Yeah thats why i started a thread here i dont know if this is a BUG or what

MiriamS 03-05-2009 04:19 AM

I have exactly the same problem. I searched for an answer and could not find one.

I tested also with a tester with the same rights as Registered users and if the tester does a search, he shows up at the hidden forum as being active. This hidden forum is also on the bottom of the board.

DieselMinded 03-05-2009 05:12 AM

Keep on screaming pal no one can hear yeah , momma always said i would be dangerous if given' a brain

FWIW i still have this Issue, and it shows any user whos currently "searching the Forums" as "Viewing" the hidden forum at the bottom of my board

Frogsong 03-05-2009 06:43 AM

Diesel, have you recently installed Cybs Advanced Forum Permissions based on post count?

I'm having the same problem and it started when I installed this mod.

DieselMinded 03-05-2009 07:19 AM

I do have that mod as well , becareful trying to tweak it as a slight change to his code disables all his modifications

MiriamS 03-05-2009 10:06 AM

I don't think the mod is the problem. I disabled a lot of mods, and they still show.
