Lets Talk: Christmas!

Okay so for those of you who do celebrate Christmas. Does your family open gifts Christmas eve, or Christmas day?

We open them Christmas eve, always have. It makes sleeping real hard haha.

Also while were on the subject. Fake tree or real tree?

We have had the same fake tree for 20+ years now, Its covered in fake snow, I wouldn't dream of having any other one its a tradition.

Freesteyelz 12-13-2007 02:40 AM

It used to be one gift on the Eve then the rest on Christmas day. Now, everything is opened on the day or when it arrives (if on or after the day).

I like the smell of the real tree but I prefer the practical handlings of the fake tree. :)

Well with moms side of the family, christmas eve

Dads side is on christmas day.

Step dads is day after.

I hate christmas nowadays. I love spending time with my family and friends, but I despise how commercial it's become.

We always opened gifts on Christmas Eve when I was growing up, so I passed that tradition on to my kids.

I totally agree with Dean. Since I got remarried 2 years ago, my husband and I decided to be more practical about gifting: only our kids, get gifts. This year, since we've got two "adopted" daughters along with my biological kids, we're giving hand-made gifts, fleece knot blankets for the 4 kids, which I've made myself. That's it. Seeing and spending time with family is what's important on Christmas.

I LOVE having a real tree with that smell. But I hate cleaning up the needles, even though I love that you can smell that Christmas smell whenever you turn on your vacuum thereafter until you replace the bag. This year, however, we'll be putting up our fake little tree...we've got no space for a real tree, sadly.

It's a must have if you have kids or animals, or both!

My family is not Christian but do celebrate the holidays and have the tradition of exchanging gifts. We do so on the Winter Solstice as that date has spiritual significance for us. We will be exchanging gifts with friends and family from December 20th to December 22nd this year along with three nights of feasting and merriment.

On the subject of a tree, we do place one up and it is usually an artificial tree. We however do decorate with a lot of free pine, holly and mistletoe. No poinsettas so we don't kill the cats though.

Question, Wayne...are you Pagan or Wiccan? Cuz my mother-in-law is one of those, not exactly sure, though, and that's how she and my father-in-law have always celebrated...she calls it "Lame Duck." Everyone attending brings a dish that's a non-holiday dish...I've always brought my chili. It's a lot of fun.

I'm not buying noone presents this year. I'm broke.

edit: was that the question? :D

It's kind of more complicated than that as one's spiritual path develops into an intricate part of themselves as the walk along it. In order to not distract from the topic at hand, I'll send you a PM.

Right on, about the topic. Just was curious, cuz I am a Christian who celebrates Christmas, but I also understood what you meant about celebrating the Winter Solstice. I like celebrating both!

Christmas day. I never got the Christmas eve thing...

And it's always been a real tree.

Unless I'm mistaken most kids these days could be classed as animals ;)

Tree : Fake, with new LED lights this year.

Pressies : Christmas Day - it's called Christmas Eve for a reason, it's the day before !

Ohiosweetheart 12-14-2007 11:07 PM

We used to let my son get into his stocking on Christmas eve, then we exchanged gifts on Christmas morning. And had a real tree.

When we divorced, I purchased a pre-lit artificial tree. My son still gets into his stocking on Christmas Eve, and he opens his gifts from me on Christmas morning (he's too young to buy me a gift), and his dad picks him up at noon on Christmas day and they celebrate then.

You open presents on Christmas day - stop spoiling the christmas spirit. :P Around my area we all love christmas - I love it for the dinners, lol.

Regards Jason :)
