Hows your car handle in SNOW!?

Hehe, that's right... how does your car handle in this terrible snow! We just had our first big snow, which is sadly only a few inches, but people are going crazy here in Pennsylvania, USA.

I have a 1998 bmw 328i and even with winter tires that thing is like on skates! Every single time I creep to a stop sign I skid and ABS kicks in. (Annoying!)

What cars do you all drive and is it just me or do sport cars really not perform well...

nexialys 12-05-2007 10:12 PM

here in Québec, if a car is not able to handle snow, it is not on the market, so we all have capable cars.. lol

deezelpope 12-05-2007 10:30 PM

All the cars I've ever owned were front wheel drive manuals...can't beat a stick shift for snow!

dismas 12-05-2007 11:24 PM

I don't drive a car, I drive a Jeep. It handles rather well in the snow even for having balding all-terrains on it. I'll be happier when I get snow tires on tomorrow though.

And I agree with deez, stick shift in the snow is soo nice!

audi a4 quattro.... perfect

talkvb 12-06-2007 02:11 AM

Rear wheel drive = Dread every turn ...

My fish tail is ridiculous, haha.

Freesteyelz 12-06-2007 02:40 AM

Use the opportunity of snow to practice your drift, talkvb. :D

I don't know.. When there is snow on the ground, I don't go outside.

LOL, where do you go to wayne? :o

Wayne Luke 12-06-2007 03:59 AM

If there is snow outside, I don't go anywhere.. Though I think the last time we had snow was 2003 or 2004.

Brad 12-06-2007 11:46 AM

I've driven everything we own in the snow/ice aside from the street bikes...never had much of a problem in it. ;)

My first experience driving in the snow was in one of these. Positive traction is a life saver. >) Matter of fact I've always felt "safer" in a rear-wheel drive no matter what the conditions. I'd much rather deal with over steer any day of the week, but I have no problems with front-wheel drive...just hate having to adjust my driving style for it. ><

The cadillac is FWD and super heavy so she goes pretty good :D

Its the white stuff they talk about on the 6 o'clock news.. Like the:

The snowpack in the Sierra Nevada is not meeting the average requirement so that there may be water shortages in Southern California continuing into 2008 and 2009.

deezelpope 12-06-2007 02:59 PM

Did I mention it's snowing here? Third time this week.:D

bobster65 12-06-2007 03:01 PM

Just fine. 3/4 Ton Dodge Hemi, studded snow tires and chains ready for use when needed ;)

talkvb 12-06-2007 10:38 PM

I might have to get my tires studded, as they don't seem to work nearly how they should for winter tires!

Cars in the shop now getting a fixed right rear wheel bearing, will see how the little bmw holds up over the next few months!

Studs are really only good for ice and I wouldn't recommend using them on a non 4wheel drive car. Your best option would be to get a good set of snow tires and ask to get them siped (or take your current tires in and get them siped) (Siping is when they cut slits into the tread and it spreads out to create more traction in the snow and rain....

Front wheel drive little Renault Clio, and it handles perfectly fine until you reach sludge at the same level as my car, then not so good :D

Chris

edgecutioner 12-08-2007 04:20 AM

Nope... no snow here but it gets extremely cold :p

Seen one of those Clio's here.... How could such a small vehicle handle snow?
*re-reads the quoted post*
well I guess not much :o

Paul M 12-08-2007 10:14 AM

Shrug... We had rain here last night. Second storm this month which is quite refreshing. So far this month, we have had more rain than the previous 18 months combined.

tipoboy 12-08-2007 02:36 PM

My fiat tipo handles great!! I love to drive in the snow only time my car does handbrake turns lol and by far its the best fwd car i've drifted in lol i highly recommend everybody tries it!:)

BrandiDup 12-08-2007 09:34 PM

We have a Dodge Grand Caravan right now, which handles a LOT better than the Chevy Suburban we used to have. I loved my Suburban but it was a gas guzzling pain in the butt to drive in the snow. It fish tailed horribly, even with only a dusting or ice on the road. The caravan handles much, much better. Though, we'll never EVER live in the north again (that is a promise :p ) so we hopefully won't ever have to worry about snow again. :D

Kimmi 12-11-2007 12:12 AM

Our van handles ok in the snow. We have the traction control on it. which helps some. But we are use to the stuff. We got dumbed on all ready. we got a good 8 inches so far. the kids aready missed 2 days in a row of school becuz of the snow then it rained.so we had ice as well.. got to love winter *I Think Not*

Chris M 12-14-2007 06:17 AM

I'll be well prepared next year, I'm getting a Golf R32 (4WD) so I'll have no worries :D

Chris
