vBulletin 3.7 First Look!

vBulletin 3.7 - First Look

It's that time again! Today, the vBulletin development team is proud to unveil for the first time the forthcoming vBulletin version: 3.7.0.

vBulletin 3.7.0 contains a plethora of new features, many of which have been long requested by users and customers, while other new features will come as a surprise to everyone. 3.7.0 is slated to be the final major release of the vBulletin 3.x series before all forum development efforts are switched over to vBulletin 4.x, after which 3.x will receive only bug fix releases.

In terms of timescales, the plan is to upgrade vBulletin.com to run on vBulletin 3.7.0 on Monday (November 26th) and to let it run for a few days in order to get some feedback and bug reports before releasing the first public beta.

So, to the important bit: what's new in vBulletin 3.7?

Answer: Lots. But here, in no particular order, are some highlights...

Please read the full announcement and all new features at vBulletin.com: More...

Triky 11-23-2007 12:50 PM

I can't wait (really, LOL).

Basscat 11-23-2007 01:07 PM

Not tonight.

VADOS 11-23-2007 01:24 PM

Awesome, I'm already waiting 3.7 =))

Ziki 11-23-2007 01:48 PM

Are there any changes in coding?Like from 3.0 to 3.5?

Guest190829 11-23-2007 01:51 PM

Well they implemented YUI, so all AJAX features may (and should) have to be changed to consist with YUI. I doubt there will be a major change to backend code though going from 3.6 to 3.7...

RedTyger 11-23-2007 02:12 PM

Interesting. I was so convinced they were going to do friendly URLs. I'm actually quite impressed with the amount of added stuff, more than I thought and it generally looks very useful indeed as well. Not impressed with the design of the new social stuff though, it looks pretty rough to me.

s0lidgr0und 11-23-2007 02:16 PM

I've never been part of a major upgrade before. What happens to modifications you have on an earlier version of vb if the newer version has that feature as a standard feature?

RedTyger 11-23-2007 02:17 PM

People stop using that modification, generally. Unless it still has things that the default feature does not.

valdet 11-23-2007 02:41 PM

User Picture Galleries and Lightbox implementation look great.

It was definitely a great decision to move to YUI platform. Its fantastic news.

Cant waitto see it in action in my site.

projectego 11-23-2007 02:56 PM

Sounds very cool to me. Can't wait. :D

nexialys 11-23-2007 02:59 PM

so, 75% of the hacks released for 3.6 on vb.org are now integrated into 3.7... this is good news... that means that the coders here had GREAT ideas and concepts... (now, where are the credits for the ideas ?!)

just for these new features, i will open a new board on 3.7.. ;)

Dream 11-23-2007 03:09 PM

It's a very nice release, I'm glad Jelsoft seems to be moving from a "small fast code" to a "feature rich application". I only few bad for the big boards, but Jelsoft customer base seems to be more geared towards the second option.

I wish they have function aliases for old Ajax functions, or else I'll have a lot of work recoding mods :( and I'm lazy heh.

Mike Gaidin 11-23-2007 03:10 PM

Nice, can't wait!

bollie 11-23-2007 03:18 PM

Look nice ;)

CarpHunter 11-23-2007 03:18 PM

Real nice list with new features :D
Some in the list I already use via mods.

Now all I have to do is wait and see how much they altered in the code to make my mods 3.7 compatible :)

blazingpc 11-23-2007 03:35 PM

I will wait for the bugs to be worked out before upgrading.

I see it being like 3.6.8 and it being pushed out to soon and scrambling to make patches to fix the bugs and holes.

iogames 11-23-2007 03:54 PM

The user profile page looks amazing.

BrandiDup 11-23-2007 04:32 PM

WOW! I can't wait to see some of the new features.

I think 75% may be a slight over estimate ;)

I thought they might finally have put my most popular mod "out of business", given how many forums seem to use it these days - but it looks like I'll be doing a 3.7 version :)

vwdforum 11-23-2007 04:49 PM

looks good, can't wait!

s0lidgr0und 11-23-2007 04:59 PM

So should I stop adding modifications to my site until after this newest version is released and the hacks are re-released for 3.7?

I'd hold off. You know there will be templates to be reverted and edits reapplied.

<insert expletive here>

Thanks for the advice.

VADOS 11-23-2007 05:51 PM

I can't get just 1 thing: why they can not make "smiles in quickreply" by default (in a table, not drop-down) and "quote selected text in post"?!
On every next release of vB I believe they will release that kind of options, but not... ;(

apiasto 11-23-2007 05:52 PM

its about time

Shazz 11-23-2007 05:55 PM

Seems like some major changes

G0F0RBR0KE 11-23-2007 06:42 PM

I can't wait for it to be release.

Shazz 11-23-2007 06:49 PM

First question as always members will have. "Will my mods work on 3.7"

G0F0RBR0KE 11-23-2007 06:51 PM

Some of them will and some of them won't.

I think a lot of modification will have to be re-done for 3.7.

ChU v2 11-23-2007 06:54 PM

Wow, they have done a lot. 3.7 looks amazing.

GENERATION-X 11-23-2007 07:25 PM

wow .. that really sounds like we have a great christmas time here ..

Ohiosweetheart 11-23-2007 08:29 PM

Absolutely worth the wait. :D

Jikdor 11-23-2007 09:07 PM

Wow... I want it NOW!

Aclikyano 11-23-2007 09:23 PM
