Which softwares have you used?
Which types of forum software have you used either presently or in the past?
phpBB was my first. I'm pretty sure I installed it using Fantastico when I first started my site. I switched to Invision about a year after that. Then switched to vbulletin about a year after that. Been with vbulletin for about 2 1/2 years now. |
I started with phpNuke and got tired of patching it all the time so I moved to vBulletin :)
I wanted vBulletin in the first place - but I had to save for it - and 11 months of savings was worth the wait. I'm fixing to open my second site (but I will start it right - with vBulletin first). |
UBB, PhpBB, XMB, Invision, vB :)
And a few other "project" boards that never went anywhere :p Chris |
Ms-dos 2.11
|
I've been very fortunate in that my husband bought me a vBulletin for my first go with a board.:) He runs a phpBB, which I believe is inferior in comparison, but is good enough in his eyes, being his board isn't a major feature of his site like it is mine.
|
Started with a Invision Free board, was horrible. Then someone set up a Nulled Ipb for me ( I know dont eat me). I messed with Phpbb for a bit when I learned Nulled = Bad, and inventually purchased vbulletin(best software IMO). I am now against nulled boards and know better.

Proboards>BBboards>phpbb> phphnuke>phpbb (again)> vBulletin.

I'm pretty sure that's not forum software ;) I've used MyBB and vBulletin. |
Ahh the word "forum" was not in the title (but is in the first line, should read better ;))
|
LOL, I've got a copy of MS-DOS on 5.14" floppy (not sure which version it is) along with Windows 3.1 hehe (found them last night).
|
I've used and tried most forum and Portal CMS software, you name it and I've probably tried it at some point in the past.
Most recently though. I tried the new version of phpBB 3 RC7. And was very impressed with it. The only thing I didn't like about it was the permission settings (there very long winded and confusing to get to grips with). If they were simplified to work like they did in their previous phpBB2 version. It would be the forum choice for me to use now. It validates to WC3 strict and has some nice new features like listing BOTS as a members group, which can then be controlled via permissions as to what they can view (Good for SEO). While not going overboard in adding loads of other useless features to bloat it. |
What does "nulled" mean?
|
It means your using a pirated version
|
to follow Marco's point of view, my first software was the Commodore 64's dos... i do not remember its name btw...
and my first forum ?!... FirstClass™, and some other BBS softwares written in ASCII.. lol ok, i'm old |
I'm pretty sure most things are written in ASCII, so I'm guessing you mean something else ?

UBB Classic 5.4.3 through 5.4.7
vBulletin 1.1.6 through 3.6.8 |

text-based interfaces... very ugly, as you can see on the second image here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletin_board_system ;) |
