ty for this

There is no demo of this, as it's just a background process. Download the zipped file to check it out ;)

kaptanblack 10-24-2007 07:49 PM

Thanks...

PoetJA-1975 10-24-2007 09:11 PM

hmmm - sounds interesting -but I'm not quite sure what this modification does... Can you explain the process in detail please? And what exactly do you mean by "optimize tables"?

Thanx,

Jacquii.

pspmaster93 10-24-2007 10:12 PM

cool! nice but can you make one for update counters that will allow you to choose some counters that are automatically updated daily.

ChurchMedia 10-24-2007 10:16 PM

I've been waiting for a hack like this. Thanks!

ssslippy 10-24-2007 10:20 PM

What exactly does this do?

I think it is kind of like defragging your PC to make it run faster. Same principle. You would be, in this case, optimizing the tables so that your database, and maybe your site, will run more smoothly. That is what I am getting out of the authors description. I could be wrong though.

It's that :)

Non-optimized tables can have some space which can be released for any other data, and MySQL didn't have this type of process by default.

johnrizz 10-25-2007 12:33 AM

I'll give it a try...

OnyxChase 10-25-2007 01:20 AM

How is this different than the optimize tables function that is in the vBulletin Maintenance > Repair/Optimize Tables admin menu?

momo2 10-25-2007 12:03 PM

Sounds like a great idea, so this will work on it's own ? or can it work as manual ?

From the sounds of it, it makes what you are talking about run on a cron schedule...that's what I'm getting out of this. So you don't have to continually go in and optimize tables...it does it automatically. Which...when I'm away from my site for a few days, this is something that is really nice to have. Or for those that didn't realize that was there or are just very forgetful like I get to run optimize tables :P

Snake 10-25-2007 03:39 PM

I've been looking for something like this. You just made my life easier. Thanks!

PJAmerica 10-26-2007 02:19 PM

howiulf 10-26-2007 05:44 PM

It's nice, tiny and sooooooooooooo useful.

thx a lot :)

maxicep 11-04-2007 03:38 PM

this mod is looking good but i think, it is not useful on big forums.

example:
my post table is 400mb also user table is 40mb.

if i optimize this tables manually in admincp, system crashes 1-2min, and sometimes site down, cause optimize doesnt complete

PitchouneN64ngc 11-04-2007 04:16 PM

You're right, if your tables crashed when you optimize them manually, my mod can't do that better :)

bollie 02-10-2008 11:07 AM

Work for 3.7 ????

Marco van Herwaarden 02-10-2008 11:36 AM

I must post a small warning here:

- Optimising/Repairing tables is not something that should be done on a daily/weekly basis. It has not much use and it might even cause table corruption.
- If your tables crash regulary then you should try to find the cause of this and prevent it from happening, not disguish the symptoms by repairing often.

PS Also please remove the Jelsoft copyright and your license-id from the header of the PHP-file.

I'll remove mentionned text from here and posting it in 3.7 Modifications ;)

My mods (including this one) will have updates very soon (testing them for allowing them to work for 3.6 - 3.8 in a package) :)
