Project Description

Mod Tools is an addition to vB which adds a couple of handy features, but mainly expands on making moderation easier, also implementing AJAX for streamlined control.

Features

Post History

Moderation is from time to time haulted by the fact an earlier edition of a post is lost forever. Post History keeps a full log of all edits to posts made by everyone from the moment it has been installed. Through this your staff can easily select previous versions of the post, or choose to see them all, solving this problem.

Post Moderation Comments

Post moderation comments are designed to allow your staff to append little notes to a single post which can be viewed by staff and if chosen, the author of the post. Here you can add moderation notes you may usually do when editing a post, but keeping the message away from the public. Or you can use it to communicate with other staff privately about the post.

Thread Bumping

You may want the ability to bump a thread automatically under certain circumstances without having to post in the thread again. The thread bumping system offers options to you, you can set a thread to be bumped if the first post is edited, any post is edited or any post by the author is edited.

Permissions

As expected, all features and tools within the product are under usergroup permissions, and you are free to allocate the relevant permissions to the usergroups you wish.

Notice: 1 or 2 descriptions here listed may not be available in the Lite version.

All installexd and uploaded but no links show in the posts for me, tried editing a few posts, still nothing. No comments option shows either for me.

Is the link to add comments a template edit, cos it doesnt say this in the install.txt file?

just to anwer for the unavailable options in the lite version?

uninstalled......simply a money-making venture and nothing more. Release a non working mod, offer no support exept to say "this is Lite version, buy the full version for support".

Of that which I have tested so far; only the 'Post Edit History' is not available in this version.

As above; the 'Post Edit History' does not appear to be included with this version.

The one and only template modification (included in the txt file) in this mod is:

I have installed this on VB 3.6.8 and it works ok.

Harsh. But as i've mentioned...it does work, except the 'post edit history'. Don't forget you've paid zip for this :)

Sorry about that masiello - completely missed your question. I think it's only the edit post history thats missing, and maybe some minor parts of the other features functionality. The full version has the following features:

Post History

Last Edited By Control

If you wish to edit someone elses post, but evade the 'Last edited by' message being update, this will allow you to do that easily. This expansion enables you to choose between the options of default (use forum settings), do not update or remove the last edited by note.

The full version will also be updated with new features on a semi-regular basis (every few months, situation dependant)

Well... yes, selling a mod usually is a money making venture - it's how we can continue to make mods. But theres a free version here... so im not sure how exactly you can call it a "money making venture and nothing more" We're giving you something for nothing, not quite sure how you can be somehow offended or upset by that?

Just @ Cybertims, come on men, in there you find all for free and coders spend a lot of time to make this, and if this theirs job, and make money honestly, I don't think we need to offfended anyone who offer for free he's good work, talk it trial, talk it demo, talk it free, but the point is "we don't pay for that work"

In the lite version, thread bumping can't be done manually :)

As for Post History, that should be functioning within lite, although the edit to show the post history link in postbits is made automatically, It could be failing if you have a rather customised skin. Those experiencing issues with Post History, could you confirm it works with the default vB Skin on your forum? :)

The point is, why have the big lovely introduction and description of the features if they dont even exist in this mod? Mis-representation comes to mind here.

I have installed it, nothing happens or shows up.

One mis-interpretation, and that'd be my lazyness on not editing the verbiage :p Basically you don't get the control to manually bump threads, other than that, everything listed in the main post is included.

As for style issues, if you'd like to send me a copy of your postbit templates, if your using postbit then it'd be just postbit, or the legacy version postbit_legacy via PM, I'd be happy to debug the issue, this was designed on vB default skin, so customised skins -may- have issues with some of the auto template edits :)

Thanks Inferno Tech for making this available free - some people are quite ungrateful, many of the Mods here are offered with "no support" - why should your Mod be any different?

Quick question, I'm probably going to install this on our Forum but I'd want to change the "(View Post History) (View Moderation Comments)" to icons - am I allowed to do the template changes to do this?

I installed this on my test forum but there were several issues. Is there any point in posting them or should I just uninstall and move on ?

@Darat - This template is currently automatic, however since a few skins are having issues conforming to this, it will no doubt be changed to manual once the next release is out, which will fix issues reported by users :)

@Paul - It's worth posting them - we try to sort issues if we have the time, but it's not something we want to feel obligated to do, so we let people know not to *expect* it

I have to disagree, first hand issues, bugs, and overall functionality will be our concern, on both the Lite edition, and any other. Once it is stable though, I can't hang around to answer every question, request, etc.. forever I'm afraid.

But to imply it's because the mod has a paid version is out of order really, I've released a catalogue of modifications on vB.org, not even 5 have paid extensions, and on all modifications I executed the same practice, make sure it's stable and fit for everyone to use, then move on...

Sometimes I wonder why I waste my time here :) Be thankful for the rest who can appreciate something for nothing.

The issues I had were as follows ;

1. The View Moderation Comments link showed up on registered users own posts, even though they had no permission. If you clicked on it then you just got a blank pop-up (just the proceed button).

2. When viewing edits, the phrase "Rep Power:" vanished from the postbit, leaving just the actual value displayed.

3. When viewing all edits, no timestamp information was shown for the current and original post contents, just the intermediate edit.

I did not try any of the bump features, I was only interested in looking at the post edit side really as I currently use PEH and wanted to do a comparison. I have decided to stick with PEH for now.

Indeed, and ordinary Vb admins like myself are thankful for your efforts Zero. I agree with you taking issue about those ignorant remarks.

Because superheros have a responsibilty to look after those less gifted then themselves. :) You are doing a great job mate, keep up the good work.

I like this mod and I'd be willing to buy the pro but I have a problem with my setup. I use the "Chief First Post - Every Page" mod and this mod doesn't seem to work with it. It does work with the standard "postbit", and "postbit legacy" templates, but not the "article" or "flipped" templates. On the two custom templates it shows the mod utility on every post but the first (thread starter).

I know that your not supporting this version, but I won't be purchasing pro unless I can resolve this issue.

What code do I need to include in this other postbit templates?
