Hide Threadlist for closed forum with sub-categories

This mod will hide the empty listing of threads for any forum that is (1) closed to new posts, (2) doesn't have any posts, and (3) has at least one sub-forum. This basically allows you to leave the forum 'acting as a forum' and not a category, for display purposes on the forumhome-- so it shows up as a forum and not a category.

In other words, the forum will 'act as a category' with one exception-- on the forum home, it won't look like a category.

Requested here.

Installation: upload the XML file, visit the Options page to turn it on/off, and decide if you want to show the thread tools (See post #4)

If you like this & use it, please click Mark as Installed. :)

History:
v 1.0.0 - Initial release
v 1.0.1 - Added ability to show the thread tools, even when hiding the list of threads.

Great Mod!

DJ XtAzY 10-12-2007 06:01 AM

vb should have an option for this built in =]

Hornstar 10-12-2007 06:45 AM

I agree.

Thanks for making this for me and the community, it is much appreciated. It looks like many others will find this useful as well :)

I am thinking it may be good to still keep the display options box/currently active users box/ posting rules box (screen shot 1) there and only remove threads in forum box (screen shot 2) the overall look would look like screen shot 3

Currently I now have quite a lot of white empty space, I am thinking those would feel up the space good. What do you think?

Maybe its fine the way it is, just wondering what others think I suppose?

Strangely enough I was thinking about how I could achieve this last night! Thanks. :)

Hmmm, it could be done. Currently the way it works, is on the forumhome it displays as if it were a forum, and on the forumdisplay, it displays as if it were a category. That's how I accomplished it. If people want the change you've described, I'll take a look at it.

Ok, version 1.0.1 now adds an option to show or hide the thread tools.

Hey it doesnt work for me! can anyone help please? or i have to do it manually but i dont know how!

lostgirl815 06-02-2008 02:09 AM

Try setting the parent forum to 'not open' (or, take the checkmark out of 'open') - that's what I was doing wrong anyway.

And great hack!

misuzuu 10-25-2008 10:59 AM
