yeah, i know i'm an idiot... but if you can't use your own msn/yahoo/aim system to chat with the same 4 people all the time, maybe you need to review your needs... and your ways of talking with people...
adding a chatbox for only 4 people on a software like vBulletin is a loss of time... you would save bandwidth and webspace if you use an existing IM... |
You never stated whether you wanted a free or commercial solution nor did you thank nexialys for giving you sound advice. I would list a range of products that would help you but I simply cannot be bothered to help you out because I'm lazy and think that your an idiot.

AH, come one Shelley.. lol... he deserves more.. lol for now.. lol

Back to the issue: www.v3chat.com ;)

If you want something inexpensive that will integrate with your vbulletin user database and forum, try www.flasherize.com
|
Install a shoutbox in the admin forum, or moderator forum.

My Advice: use IRC.
We do the same for our staff here on vb.org. We have 3 (well more actually) chat rooms in IRC for vb.org: - 1 for general public - 1 for our moderators (not accessible for any others) - 1 for our admins (not accessible for any others) Hardly any costs and no influence on your server performance (if you just use an existing IRC network). |
PJIRC has a version that integrates with vB. I've been thinking about trying it out for a new site. Though, for administrative stuff we use the voice chat Ventrilo. :)

Ah the joy of teaching newbies irc commands. :) |
I don't think anyone would find the nickserv or chanserv commands very hard to use or get to grips with. If I'm not mistaken isn't irc and running your own server on your host server intensive? maybe I'm mistaken.
|
No it is not very server intensive, but most people wil just use an existing network nad will not go install an IRC server on their own server. Most hosts will not even allow that.

What I've done is attempt to get these guys on a more "point-and-click" (user friendly) client. There is a good one for the MAC but I've yet to find one on Windows that fits the bill. Until then I'm forced to walk people through the process as the other admins just love to point people that are confused in my direction. :( |
While some of the people I'm surrounded by are well-informed, I'm IRC newb. :D
And Brad...Get on the PM. ;) |
