Vbulletin not on dedicated server?
 

Ok so is anyone running VB and not on dedicated server. My host company is moving me to a server so they can monitor why my forum is sucking up resources. How frustrating.

There are loads of vB boards out there on shared hosting I'm sure...

there are hundred of vbulletin forums that are on shared vsp or even free webservers... being dedicated is actually less popular than the other solutions...

if you have problems with your site, maybe you have too much content to share?!...

With VPS's being more affordable now days they are becoming the norm for med size forums. It's gives the user more config control and no worries about the shared hosting blues. For small sites almost all of them are on shared hosting.

I dont know if we are med or large. We have 2500 users and get 714,000 page vies this month. So I really dont know what we are considered. I am going to try cutting things out and hope it helps

If you're using shoutbox or chatbox. Those uses a LOT of resource.

ok I have a shout box and I have flashchat. They have now put me on time out. Here is what I got from them.

With both of those mods it's going to be a little much if you have a few users online at a time using them.

What is your typical users online with a timeout setting at 900 seconds (15 minutes)

All I know is I generally only have 100 user online all the time

What is your cutoff time?

And most forums are on shared hosting, dedicated should only be if you need it, since dedicated servers cost a lot of money to be on.

Guessing you're using Dreamhost? They did the same to me, a few weeks later they said nothing suspicious and put me back on the normal servers.

that's the problem.. flashchat and shoutbox are both total garbage! ANY chat that uses a database is just retarded anyway.

If your board were just plain stock, i'd say that your host is trying to upsell you.

some suggestions. there is a shoutbox (flatfile) over on vbhackers by zerotolerance. it will put a bandaid on your issues for a little while and get them out of your hair. but if u continue to use a shoutbox i think eventuly u will be getting a vps.

my shoutbox would shut my site down if it got over busy on shared. as well as my gallery or arcade if i tried uploading anything bulk.

if vps is in your budget i would recommend the move. the hardest thing for me was the learning curve. alot of damaging stuff in there that i didnt have to deal w/ on shared.

Ok now they are telling me its not the content of the site I can only have 100 people on the sites at a time.

I'd be making a swift move elsewhere :)
