Configuration Difficulty: Minimal

Mod Info:

New Templates: 1
Sql Querries: 0
Plugins: 4
phrases: 42
settings: 28

Mod Features:
  • Global on/off
  • Announcement type set-able
  • Announcement text controllable via AdminCP
  • Thread linking on/off
  • Thread Linking
  • Announcement Box Color changable
  • Announcement Text Color changable
  • Show/Hide Announcement Images
  • Forumhome Display location changable
  • Title enable/dissable
  • Title text
  • No template edits what so ever required

Install Instructions:
  • Unpack all files
  • Upload the images in the misc folder to your style's misc directory
  • Install HS-AFHA.xml by going into your adminCP=>Plugins and products=>Manage products=>Add new product
  • Configure via vBulletin Options=>HS - Advance forumhome announcements

Configuration Notes:
We've coded this version so that you can controll the images that displays. Entering an url to an image in the text box will cause the default image to disapeare and the new one you entered to take its place. Also, make sure you've got "Show image" set to yes. Global displayment is now do-able, by setting the displayment point above or below the navbar. It will then Display globally on your forum. Colors are changable, but must be in ASCII code for instance white = #FFFFFFF . Same goes for the text font. If you use a custom image, remember to enter the image width in the text area that follows, otherwise the whole allignement will be messed up.

Screenshots and Downloads
[Admin End | User End | Demo]

*It was very hard to create screenshots for the user end, since it is up to you what the displayments must look like. The screenshots were taken on the default available styles, but keep in mind that everything is customizable via the admin-cp*

Included Files:
  • Admin End Screenshot
  • User End Screenshot
  • Read me
  • 5 images
  • XML Product file

Planned Updates:
  • Hide Announcements from guest and show a "please register" message instead (Going to be enhanced allot)
  • Better Admin Panel Layout?
  • Show certain Announcements to certain Usergroups
  • Show certain Announcements to certain Users
  • Whatever you guys suggest

Final Notes:
This modification was built from the ground up and was enhanced as we went on with the production of it. None of the codes here were leeched of the other modifications out there that are available to do the same basic function. This is not an updated version on any of those and must not be considered as one. It is a mod on its own.

Well I've just installed it - but only on my DevForum, have to say it's looking rather nice!

Millenium IT 10-05-2007 09:40 PM

Thanks, remember to click install though to show your appreciation ;)

Darat 10-05-2007 09:44 PM

First impression is very positive.

If you'd like feedback, I would prefer it if it parsed bbcodes rather than having to use HTML. I appreciate HTML gives more flexibility but it means more work if I want to duplicate something we have a bbcode set-up to display.

(Oops sorry hadn't clicked on Install).

Millenium IT 10-05-2007 09:49 PM

Thanks for the feedback, I'll consider bbcode parsing to replace html in the future release :)

Also, thanks for clicking install ;)

Subah 10-05-2007 10:09 PM

Its cool Thanks :)

MR.BOSS 10-05-2007 10:19 PM

yoyoyoyo 10-05-2007 11:36 PM

excellent - thanks much!

Quantnet 10-06-2007 03:04 AM

nice mod. Can we make this to appear on VBA Home as well

Millenium IT 10-06-2007 04:40 AM

I've come across some errors, so the glob al displayment still wont work in this series. Ill start working on it and make sure that it's available in the next release :)

AndyA 10-06-2007 05:57 AM

Thanks for the mod, it's installed on my forum. :)
It would be quite handy if it were possible for a user to click the notification area and the message to disappear, also a display time limit would be good. Do you have any plans to add features like those ?

Millenium IT 10-06-2007 06:02 AM

Yes, yes I do. As I stated in the original post, this is a growing modification, and will be updated and made better with your help , feedback and comments. Suggestions will be considered, so keep them coming ;)

katilkuzu 10-06-2007 06:38 AM

great and installed but how can i crate more than one announcements?

Urgent
Good news
Bad news ect.

I just could add one announcement no more. any one have idea?

thanx in advance

Millenium IT 10-06-2007 07:04 AM

On this version you can only display one announcement at a time. Ill consider ading the ability to create multiple announcements at a time in the next version. Thanks for installing ;)

katilkuzu 10-06-2007 07:54 AM

ok thank you for your reply. i will use this :) and will be wating new version forward. ;)

Doctor Death 10-06-2007 10:41 AM

Very solid mod... I like the aesthetics and thought you have put into it...

Would be nice to add another category announcing a POLL (with a poll graphic available).

I have used it to announce membership votes at www.ddsog.com (in forums) and got lots of good feedback already on how nice it looks/feels.

lasto 10-06-2007 10:52 AM

really neat hack - is one way to get someones attention.

thanks m8

Masiello 10-06-2007 11:18 AM

Great Job, thanks for share :)

Quantnet 10-06-2007 12:13 PM

where in navbar template that I can move this announcement around ?
I have some other thing on forum home, under navbar template and i like to arrange them.

StuntFactoryX 10-06-2007 01:59 PM

just a suggestion for global. i use the welcome header hack for simaliur purposes and place a variable $welcomeheaders in the templates where i desire placement. i find that quite handy and it works well in add on scripts like vbadvanced and photopost. maybee somthing along those lines w/ a option to auto edit (for simple use on forum home) and manual edit switch for those that wanna use this global.

welcome headers are sharp but u cant use a annoncement and a welcome message at the same time. and this hack w/ the color/image really adds detail to a site.

Your going to have to edit a plugin for that

Thanks, I'm still consedering on wether or not I should use the template editing technique or the plugin technique to get it to display globally.

lisss001 10-07-2007 12:09 PM

Hengest 10-07-2007 07:24 PM

This is excellent, thanks very much.

I look forward to the updates as I definitely want to see a multiple announcement option and usergroup specific announcements.

Nickbe 10-08-2007 10:21 AM

I like it but it removed all underlining from my forum text.... wny? and how can i fix it?

abdulla1 10-08-2007 11:08 AM

Yes me too! it removed all the underlining from the forum, and it affects the font style.

any thoughts?

trackpads 10-08-2007 08:45 PM

Very nice hack!! Thanks!!

Masiello 10-09-2007 05:53 AM

First I say again excellent work and thanks for sharing, but I've a suggestion for your future release, can you make working BB code and HTML in the module?
And if you are able to split fields for insert different text/code and in different forum position one by one, this can be used too like add/banner/sponsor manager!

Nickbe 10-09-2007 11:35 PM

So any solution on this text formating issue?

Nickbe 10-11-2007 11:43 AM

Ok I am going to ask again then I am going to teach myself XML so I can fix it.

Any fixes for the damn text issue?

trackpads 10-11-2007 11:49 AM

I never noticed that until now, doesnt really look bad either way. I will wait for the update, if you do it please let us know.

Instructions for anybody who gets screwed up text issues.

Open XML file that comes with this add-on (thats the file you upload in you plug in manager)

Find

Code:

<if condition="$vboptions[HSFHA_enabled]==1">
<style type="text/css"> <!-- A:link {text-decoration:none} A:visited
{text-decoration:none} --> </style>
<if condition="$vboptions[HSFHA_type]==0">

Replace with
Code:

<if condition="$vboptions[HSFHA_enabled]==1">
<style type="text/css"> <!-- A:link {text-decoration:underline} A:visited
{text-decoration:underline} --> </style>
<if condition="$vboptions[HSFHA_type]==0">

Save and upload.....

I know, I know I am cool.

Millenium IT 10-11-2007 04:12 PM
