Forum Title

Forum Title

Well, someone asked for this, and I thought it was a good idea also, so I went ahead and added it.

What does this do?

This will allow you to change the title that shows up per forum.

Why Would I want to do this?

Well, I cant really answer that. What it does do is allows you to keep the same display name for the forum on forumhome, and allows you to have something more descriptive in the title of that forum. Great for SEO.

Installation:

Import the Product

Configuration:

Go into Forum Manager, Scroll to bottom to find: Forum Title adjust to how you want.

Thats It!

Please Click Install if you use!!!

FreshFroot 09-03-2007 01:10 AM

hmm I'll try it out, could be helpful.

Thanks.

Rickeo 09-03-2007 01:18 AM

I don't get this does it change the URL of each individual forum??

Michael Biddle 09-03-2007 01:34 AM

Its hard to explain, Instead of having to change the forum title itself, which makes the display different on the forumhome, it will allow you to keep that the same, then get more indepth and descriptive in the page title.

ssslippy 09-03-2007 03:08 AM

Great Idea installed

rayphua 09-03-2007 03:44 AM

I still don't see where we can see the description of the forum... Please advice. Thanks.

Hornstar 09-03-2007 04:48 AM

Any demo links or screen shots of this in use? That may help some of the above better.

aycan555 09-03-2007 08:43 AM

is there any demo link to try?

rooban12 09-03-2007 09:04 AM

any samples?

projectego 09-03-2007 10:06 AM

I too would like to check out a demo before I try this out.

ringleader 09-03-2007 02:36 PM

It just re-writes the $foruminfo to whatever you write in the box that is added to the bottom of the Forum Manager for each individual forum.

So if I wrote 'testing' in the box for my 'Announcements' forum, it would appear as 'testing' on forumdisplay rather than 'Announcements' as it is called everywhere else.

bazzup 09-03-2007 02:37 PM

Well i just installed this on my test forum cannot see where it suppose to show up

regards

Masiello 09-03-2007 03:40 PM

Awesome! *Clicks* Install!
Please keep it up for the future vBulletin releases :)

Thanks for the help, its really hard to explain what it does lol.

But to answer others change the setting I have added, then look in your forumdisplay for that forum. Ie. www.yoururl.com/forumdisplay.php?f=X where x is the forumid that you changed the setting. Now look at the page title, its what's in the box that you added, while the forum name stays the same. Hope this helps a little

Endurer 09-03-2007 05:45 PM

As far as I know, it changes the TITLE tag of the forum; great for SEO.

Sofia 09-03-2007 05:47 PM

Hiii Mike :p

I am planning on it, it should also work on all 3.6.X but have not tested so.

Brandon Sheley 09-03-2007 06:09 PM

Nice hack :)
now to go optimize my forums :D

iogames 09-03-2007 08:58 PM

does this add any workload to the server :(

I'm in a low-queries diet :D

Edited: I must say: Incredible-Great!

Magnumutz 09-03-2007 09:37 PM

Good job dude.
*clicks install*

PapaSmurf 09-03-2007 09:44 PM

Question:

Say if i had img tags as a forum title. Even with alt tags, it still does not parse correctly in the jump menu or the browser title. Will this then replace the unparsed elements and parse them with this extra title?

For an example of what i mean go to:

http://www.nohaxnetwork.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

EDIT: Tried it out, but i couldn't even get it to work on a regular text forum.

roady89 09-03-2007 09:57 PM

Just installed on 3.6.7. It is great for seo. Clicked installed.

Yes, only thing it adds is 1 field into the forum table, and thats it, not other queries are ran.

Not quite sure I understand, but by looking at your forum, you could use my hack to make it display TEXT of what you want to get across, and keep the img under the forumname

So, the Name of the Forum on the Control Panel won't be Displayed, and the Custom Name Specified for the Forum will be Displayed instead of it??

If that's the Meaning of the Hack, then is a Good, very Useful to manage an Structure of Names in the Admin Control Panel and present a Different Information on the Forums Interphase!!

:)

Michael Biddle 01-09-2008 04:09 PM

It will not change the forum name, that stays the same. It changes the TITLE of the page, which is good for SEO

rasp187 01-15-2008 01:32 AM

Nice mod...installed. Works great!

jamesw 01-15-2008 02:33 PM

Excellent job, been looking for something like this!

Just 1 missing feature: Setting the title of the homepage of the forum independently of the Forum Name and Homepage Name - as it would be nice to have a full length homepage title without getting this added to every other title of the forums.
If that would make it's way into this modification, it would be a great asset to anyone serious about SEO.

ctfortner 01-15-2008 05:14 PM

very nice mod, very useful, installed, works perfect!

Rev O 01-15-2008 07:06 PM

How is this with VbSEO? Does it conflict in anyway?
Cheers

Michael Biddle 01-18-2008 01:25 AM

Well if you use vBSEO's Relevant replacements how they have it setup, then theres would be better. It is very similar how they change the title to [forum_title] - Yoursite.com. This just allows you to have a custom value into it. Its either one of the other.

cardealercheck 03-02-2008 04:34 AM

Thanks for the mod whitemike! Loco.M suggested it to me and it works great.

Rev O:
The Mod doesn't conflict with VBSEO and I think this actually allows you a better control of your forum titles than VBSEO does. I think it's a great add-on to use in addition.

ramsayeg 03-13-2008 10:14 PM

This is great, works fine in 3.7 beta 6. thanks!

Lombardo 03-14-2008 09:46 AM
