Add Weather Underground Quick Search

Since this is no longer just a template edit, I have created a new MOD in the vBulletin 3.6 Add-Ons forum. It can be found here:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=157677

The new version (2.0) is completely phrased, has added weather services, and an AdminCP where you can control it.

Hope you like it.

Now go over there, and click install!!!:D:D

Just in case

Great Thanks.

Great idea, and not bad for a first mod.

Just a couple of suggestions:
1) "Find the Weather for any City, State or Zipcode" and "Fast Forecast" should be a phrase to be more vb-friendly.
2) This hack could easily be a product instead of a template edit using the "$template_hook[navbar_search_menu" To see how this can be accomplished I suggest looking at another hack, such as the "Post Thank You" or the "Post Groan" hacks, which both insert code in the dropdown seach menu as well.

Also, it is customary to copy your install info to a text file and upload it to this thread.

Thanks again for sharing.

Hey. Thanks for the suggestion. Like I said, this is my first time doing anything like this. I wll look at the hacks suggested, and try to do that. Will also upload a txt file of the current setup.

cool - I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with. BTW - "Fast Forecast" should also be a phrase as well.

Version 1.1 is out!!!

No more template edits. This now uses the Product/Plugin system. It also has 2 new phrases, so that you can customize if you want.

Enjoy.

New version v1.1.1

excellent! coming along nicely!

It would be nice to have a setting in the ACP (or even better also in the User CP) to allow people to choose either weather.com, weather.yahoo.com, nws.noaa.gov, usatoday.com/weather, accuweather.com, intellicast.com, weather.msn.com, theweathernetwork.com or weatherunderground.com to return the results. The admin could specify which sites are available for the user to select from, or they could only offer one to use. There are many international forums, and I am sure they would like to have the ability to view local forecasts via their local weather service. Just an idea if you are interested.

I was thinking the same thing. I will attempt that, but it may be a little out of my league right now. I'm just a dumb Network Admin, and really know nothing about coding.

See the 1st post in this thread to see why I moved it. I was planning on just a simple little template edit, and then yoyoyoyo came around :D:D. I think y'all are going to like the new version.

yoyoyoyo 09-12-2007 09:52 PM

Woot! :D
