Spermy 08-25-2007 11:09 PM

Is it temp or perm?

KHALIK 08-25-2007 11:18 PM

Imagine the admin types ban me by error!

lol, that would be funny.

It can be permanent since the user is placed in the "Banned" usergroup. The administrator can search for the user and place him/her into their previous usergroup. This script does not record the user's current usergroup prior to being placed into the "Banned" usergroup so you may have a problem forgetting which users go into which usergroups.

Actually someone needs to type "[ban_me]" not "ban me".

ice chrono 08-26-2007 12:11 AM

haha Thanks man :D it's going to be fun next April fools :D

johnrizz 08-26-2007 12:24 AM

Hahaha! I love it! **installed** I'll click install just to see what will happen. lol!

Trillian 08-26-2007 01:22 AM

I have users on my forum who would actually use this. We often get requests by users to be banned so they aren't tempted to waste a lot of time browsing when they need to get other stuff done. They'll email the admins when they are ready to come back. Crazy, but true!

I think this is a good one for a prank, but I think I'd need something more like an option in their UserCP. I can live without that Mod, but if it was a true option, our users would use it.

bdude 08-26-2007 01:24 AM

It would be good to maybe have a page where a user can select how long they want to be banned, rather than making useless threads/posts

Shazz 08-26-2007 02:56 AM

Its a prank?? :o

SuperTaz 08-26-2007 03:38 AM

I tried it using a test name and it posted the thread but did not ban the test user. I clicked on the BBcode and did it that way also and the same thing happened.

Yes...It is exact. Still does not work. I even had other members try it and it still did nothing.

ice chrono 08-26-2007 09:21 PM

whats the version is your VB? also try to reinstall the plugin

johnrizz 08-26-2007 11:21 PM

its a prank!

harmor19 08-27-2007 01:12 AM

I don't know why it won't work Warden.

I currently have it so the user only has to type "[ban_me]". Would you prefer it if the user needed the closing tag aswell? Ex. [ban_me]this can't ban me :P[/ban_me]

I tried both ways with a test name and nothing happened. Could it possibly be conflicting with another mod?

Alibass 08-27-2007 04:29 AM

I am using v3.6.8 and I have tried this hack using the Ban Me icon, with and without ending tags. It just will not work for me.
The only way it works for me if you edit the post after saving and then it will ban the user. Use a test user doing this or you will ban yourself.

Actually someone needs to type "[ban_me]" not "ban me".

Now it would be good humor if they were explaining how it worked and got banned.

I hardly see the point in this, an option to ban the account for a week or a month or so in the userCP would be better. It could be used when someone goes vacant from the forum for a little while.

Alviker 08-27-2007 10:32 AM

It doesn't work. Nothing.

Alibass 08-27-2007 04:19 PM

If I use just [ban_me] with text [/ban_me] I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/XXXXXXXXXX/public_html/forums/includes/functions_newpost.php(360) : eval()'d code on line 104

This hack seems not to be compatible with 3.6.8

I think it's supposed to do with temptation. I think the requester wanted to see who would be dumb enough to use the bbcode.

Alibass, Thank you for pointing out the error. I'll try to fix soon.

Thanks harmor19. Looking forward to the update. :)

Triky 08-29-2007 08:45 AM

Sadomaso. Lol

gforce75 08-29-2007 09:10 AM

Ya good joke. Can they unban?

StrifeX 08-29-2007 02:28 PM

Lol, nice hack :p Maybe you could allow peope to unban to make a button that shows up only for banned users called unban me (and make a different usergroupd for real banned and fake banned) :p

Sofia 08-29-2007 02:32 PM

Thanks a lot, Harmor ;)

ice chrono 08-30-2007 02:25 AM

I just edited the plugin to send users to a new usergroup that works like banned.. but labeled "sheeps".

edit this part of the code for both plugins.
Code:

SET usergroupid =  '8'
change 8 to what ever the new usergroup is.

raywjohnson 12-04-2007 12:27 AM

Thanks for the nice product! I was looking for a way to allow our users to "Self Ban" which currently took the form of a request. Now the request is automated! I made some adjustments to the XML to make it self_ban aware (instead of ban_me) and I changed the variable names so that it would not conflict with the original.
