vB Blog and Social Networking plans have changed!!!

See here:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showp...01&postcount=4

Guess we have to wait until 3.7.0 till we get the social networking part, but I guess blogs are soon to be out though :)

MaestroX 08-16-2007 05:33 PM

Looks like good news in my opinion.

I'm looking forward to vBulletin 3.7 :)

mondala 08-16-2007 05:42 PM

Sounds good to me. :)

Paul M 08-16-2007 07:21 PM

What exactly is a "Social Networking Part" ?

Nobody seems to know, but everyone is pretty excited about it. :D

(LOL, sorry, couldn't miss it. ;))

Alfa1 08-16-2007 09:56 PM

It's the part of myspace type profiles that connect people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_networking

EnIgMa1234 08-16-2007 10:01 PM

Social networking is free!

StuntFactoryX 08-16-2007 10:12 PM

i was most interested in enhanced profiles. great news depending on how far away 3.7 is. which i would assume that w/ blog development that wont be anytime in the near future.

cheat-master30 08-16-2007 10:13 PM

Does this mean the add on might be cheaper? Hey, I like the idea of just upgrading to get half of it free though, so that's good I guess.

I guess it is suppose to be more like myspace with enhance profile pages, possibly more like IPB board with their profile pages.

I'm guessing it will be similar to the profiles and blogs we have on http://www.tampaforums.com/

Example of a profile (not customized) http://www.tampaforums.com/index.php...le&userid=9644

Example of a nicely customised one. --> http://www.tampaforums.com/index.php...le&userid=9595

As far as I know we were the original vb site to do blogs and profiles.

Alfa1 08-18-2007 09:53 PM

Please don't post your site. Every time I see it I get crazy jealous :D It's great.

Dutchmang 08-19-2007 01:48 AM

But then again so is MySpace. Hopefully we'll get some style options that keep people from going too nuts.

That announcement doesn't say anything about *when* 3.7 will be out. So fast may not be that fast at all.

EnIgMa1234 08-19-2007 09:30 PM

Shazz is always right :p

Calash 08-20-2007 11:46 AM

I am looking forward to the Blog feature..I think it would work well on my site.

Not sure about the Social Networking part....Interactive Profiles Mod does this well for me, and adjusting the skin gets the look just right.

ragtek 08-20-2007 11:55 AM

i'm sad that nobody can say what is here exactly mean with the sn part

Calash 08-20-2007 12:44 PM

Social Network is one of those Buzz words that has a bit of a variable definition depending on the context.

If I was to guess I would say that we would be looking at a combination of a enhanced buddy list and user editable profile pages, as both of these are the most common components in "Social Networking'.

The buddy list would have to have a big improvement, otherwise the networking part will not work. Displayable friend list and custom groups would seem to be the bare minimum.

The profile page enhancements would be a nice touch as well, letting the end user customise there profile as they see fit (Zoints did this very well, drag and drop control, easy theme editing).

Social Networking plans=Profile | Pics | Videos | Blog|Comments | Friends | Group
now vbulletin offer = Profile | Friends | Group as offical
and soon we will se blog
and we wait for the new offical of my gallery/album
so this is not forum
this is Social Networking
well this good and bad on same time
good cuz if offer more feartyre for who intersted
and bad for who just want forum

any way
I see before 2 day Erwin go to same way
he change goal of his forum also he change domain to foru.ms
regard for him

and I think jelsoft must be more fast on it work

SnowBot 08-21-2007 04:31 AM

By what i can make out the Social Network part will be a feature you can turn off and on, so those who just want a forum can do.

jGas 08-21-2007 02:17 PM

i think that the social network part is this:

Quote:

Additionally, vBulletin Blog adds social networking functionality to your vBulletin installation, which will allow your users to quickly and safely make connections and form relationships. Member profile pages are extended to include an enhanced buddy system, visitor tracking, blog integration and a comment system, all housed within a new and improved profile page template together with improved delivery of existing profile information.
i've found here: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236002

i only hope that the blog will have a css editor!

SnowBot 08-21-2007 11:59 PM

Vb is moving with the times and that is always good to see.

jkay 08-22-2007 07:41 AM

What I am curious about is how soon 3.7.0 will be out. it got me all excited about it though.

Ba$im 08-22-2007 09:25 PM

i was just playing in there demos last night and thinking the same thing.

unenergizer 08-23-2007 06:05 AM

What is the social networking part for vBulletin? I don't get that part. I know myspace is social networking, but isn't a community forum social networking? hmm :)

Paul M 08-23-2007 06:57 AM

Well despite that fact that everyone talks about it, no one really seems able to define what it is. The best I can make out from the replies here is a fancy profile page and some mysterious changes to the buddy system (no actual details). I guess such things might be useful to someone, but not things I would say I'm desparate for. :)

Hornstar 08-23-2007 07:50 AM

I'm desperate for them ^^ whatever they are.

Social Networking is just a concept really. MySpace, Facebook, Livejournal, MSN Spaces, Blogger, Ebay, YouTube, Yahoo! Groups, Epinions and every existing vBulletin forum are really examples of social networks. Each implements it in a different way.

One could argue that MMORPGs (including simulations like Second Life) and IRC are social networks as well. They don't get included because they don't use the World Wide Web. However any application that allows social interaction among its members falls into the broad definition of social networking.

With vBulletin, people are limiting their ideas of Social Networking to mean enhanced profiles with comments on those profiles and links to blog entries and images. But really the concept it much broader than that even. This perception is because of how MySpace implemented their network with friend's lists, private messaging and so forth. vBulletin already has friends lists, private messaging and a most the elements of what makes MySpace into MySpace. However some of those elements are underutilized and that is what the "Social Networking" component will enhance.

Ba$im 08-25-2007 08:32 PM

welll Wayne Luke I think there are some different between Social Networking and Forum
Forum is part of Social Networking
blog is part of Social Networking
mygallery/album is part of Social Networking
chat is part of Social Networking
myvideo/audio is part of Social Networking
my homepage is part of Social Networking
etc...
once jelsoft will consider to realase many product as I see they go to Social Networking
but where is the big problem
slow work
and I belive they can’t be faster than
cuz they just who work
on other hand if they support another product as arcade as offical product then
they will wok fast any one
cuz they who have the biggest coder and developer at vB.org
