Why have been my thread locked
Since the new staff has started working i can see more and more threads getting locked. In my personal opinion locking threads shall be the last option. If there is an arguement going on inside the thread , it may get locked , if someone tries to promote a paid mod it may get locked but there are some threads noone can find a logic why they have been locked. Feature requests , discussions about modifications are getting locked. I've been here pretty long that i can say it is a new habbit. I don't know and i don't want to accuse anyone but as a vb.org user i guess the new staff may like to use some mod privilidges more then others. I really donot create this as a complain. I just want the staff realise that it doesn't make me happy what i see the last couple days and i know there are more people like me. Maybe there is a logic that staff decided to use by locking all these threads so if there are please share them with us so we can understand that logic.

IMO, they really seem power hungry...
|
I havent seen this at all. The new staff are doing great IMO
|
I notice that some of them are trying too hard. But they are new, what do you expect.
|
Quick Lock this thread
lol |
Never seen a new moderator that didn't do that :D just takes a while to find your feet and get into the flow.
|
It takes time for new people to get used to how a site runs.
Something I would have expected forum administrators to understand. |

I for one appreciate the posts here and we will make an effort not to close any thread for no reason, but there are going to be times when they will need to be closed. I want this to be positive in saying I will make an honest effort in moderating fairly. :) |
Thanks for your positive post Roms , as i really didn't start this thread with bad feelings or blame anyone. What i've seen lately at vb.org bugged me and if something bugs me i go on discuss that thing honestly. We are all adult people here and we sure can communicate without insulting each other. People may make mistakes or they may not think that the acts they are taking can disturb other people. I came here to post my decision and make my points. It is up to staff to correct this issue or not.
Another point is noone at vb.org have a right to talk without respect to another person even he is admin or mod or any other secial user title. Everyone on this site shall know that people who use this board are Jelsoft customers and they deserve to be acted professional way. If someone cannot handle that they shall step down their position in order to protect Jelsoft reputation. |
As mentioned before, all communities handle moderation differently, and (as forum owners) we also also differ in how we moderate individually. For any new staff member, the first obstacle is balancing these two components together.
If you ever feel that a thread was wrongly closed, just contact staff, and we will reevaluate the action. :) |
as for a BIG-MEGA-PROLIFIC community, each one know that a lot of rules have to be applied, but foremost, the moderators and other parts of the team have to learn from eachothers...
sure some advisors took their task too seriously at the first day, they were all advises-whoring, and that was obvious this time... they were not teached at first, and they start to act like they were on their own site... (actually, these guys lost their situation the day after, due to a lot of facts, but...) that,s exactly like for any new member of a team.. there is a moment of latency wher errors occur, new moves and new thoughts are applied, and that's ok... they will learn quickly i'm sure! |
Lizard... They are just locking a few too many threads... it isn't as if they are grossly mismanaging their moderation powers.
By the way, what is your native language? (I am assuming you are not a native english speaker) |
Recently I seen thread being close because it was answer. In my opinion, no thread should be close in vB.org unless the topic has gone off course. Or if they say, "No" on things they want from vB.org.
But like everyone says (or by few), they're just doing their jobs. Keep in mind, probably that how they do it on their forums. |
Honestly, the exageration in this is amazing. The new staff have closed five threads since they joined, all of them in the first two days as they were getting used to the way we work here. Let's get back to a sense of reality please. :)

Staff members are not excempted from any of the rules that apply to regular members. If you feel staff member is braking any of our rules, please report it and it will be reviewed.

People do things different.
On my site I do not use the warning system or lock threads. I just remove threads/posts/images. If a member does not like it they can protest. If they continue and more threads must be removed, then the member disappears. All posts, image, and any other content from the member is pruned. 3 strikes your out |
While it is true that every admin may run their own forums a different way, I would expect that there were (are) some guidelines that the new staff should be able to read to get a handle on the way this site is run.
That said, there's always an adjustment period, and from what I've seen so far, they're doing a pretty good job. :) |
Even if there are guidelines, they may not read (you would hope that they would)... Or they may misread them and / or misinterperate them I'm sure that they will get adjusted soon, meaning that all will return to normal.

We all the time discuss or provide feedback on staff actions and decissions, trying to imprive the quality and consistency of our staff decissions. That does not mean that there will never be a decission that might be questionable, but we do try to improve all the time. This goes for both old and new staff, but obviously new staff will need a bit of time to get used to them.

My post here is a suggestion and not so much a critique of what may or may not have transpired recently. (I didn't notice any closed threads, but that just means I wasn't looking at those that were closed. lol)
On my site, I have a hidden category called "Administration". Below that category, I have several hidden forums that pertain to different things. When I take on a new staff member, we require them to post in one of the forums stating that they wish to delete a thread, close a thread, etc. When they post this, then then must offer their reasoning. The current staff (most whom I have been working with for 5+years) then responds with why that would be ok, or why it wouldn't be ok to do so. In essence, by using this method, we are literally teaching the new staff how we run the site and what is and isn't allowed. If it is in agreeance that a thread requires deletion, closing, etc., we allow the staff member that adressed it to complete the process. This process may seem redundant to some, but it works very well for us. We also leave the posts in this hidden forum there for future staff to use as a reference. If someone posts porn, spam, etc., it goes without saying that the thread is at least deleted temporarily. (No staff but my admins can physically remove posts.) While a thread is in soft delete, the staff member who did it sends the user a PM letting them know the thread is curently under review. Well, thats my 2 cents. lol I think something along those lines may also benefit this site as well. |
Like it has been said:
'We all here are Webmasters and/or Mods' Nevertheless some behavior must be controlled... But in my case I really made an effort to create a nice POST and it was closed, no reason given no author mentioned... I read the guidelines and I couldn't find a reason [Hopefully someday I'll get the 'Reason' ;)] |
Since no one else besides you can post in it anyway, closing it is not really a big deal.
I suspect the fact that you bumped it 11 times over 4 months (with the final deleted post being pretty meaninless) had something to do with it. If you got no response after all those bumps then I doubt you ever will. |

I have received over 30 petitions, [mainly kids] which for business is a bad move... So to present to the Public, legal Documents of the constitution of my plan or the sole purpose of this it seems meaningless to you... :p [that's the reason???] Ok I added Corporation papers, bank accounts, DUNS's # and a 1-800's, but my day job doesn't let me finish the site... and I can tell you a lot of anecdotes about the petitioners, but once again 'no-time' ;) Thanks! |

Thanks! I still don't know how is that mixed... but when you type iogames.com on Alexa it ranks 12k, dunno why...
Ah! look what I found and never was close, a thread on Superbowl XL :D:D:D https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=60845 |
Interesting to see the usual whining is still going on here. Just let the mods do their job :)
