Split Paid Services In Half - Coding/Designing

Just a thought, but as I peruse the "Request For Paid Services" forum, it would be nice if the requests could be split up into those looking for design work, and those looking for coding work. They are really two different things.

Dismounted 07-16-2007 05:13 AM

Nice idea, but we really don't have that many requests...

There's 5,591 threads, or are you talking about designing requests.

This could be solved by prefixes.

y2ksw 07-16-2007 12:40 PM

As a pure coder I would appreciate splitting ;)

Actually, there are quite a few. I check them almost every day.

One way (if it's possible) would be to use the thread prefix system to split them.

Without more investigation I don't know if this is possible with the current prefix code.

I'll take a look into it later.

nexialys 07-16-2007 06:14 PM

most of the requests i've answered in the last year were about both needs... skinning and coding, because if you read them (i say a lot of them), a lot of people are asking for redesign of their site and adding features... how would they not be lost with prefixes...

Guest190829 07-16-2007 06:20 PM

I don't think prefixes will be a viable solution, because a specific request can need multiple skills.

Edit: (As Nexialys has mentioned.)

I don't see that prefixes would be a problem there, you simply have three (code only, design only & mixed). Also remember that when you view the forum, the default is to show all threads (exactly as now) - you then have the choice to filer by prefix if you want (so filter by code only, design only, or both). I don't see how this creates any problem - or 'lost' requests.

King Kovifor 07-17-2007 12:33 AM

I agree. But it could be a PITA to update them. It would have taken me a few minutes to get to the subject of that...

Kirk Y 07-17-2007 12:48 AM

There'd be no need to update previous requests, only new and future ones.

Brandon Sheley 07-17-2007 01:08 AM

I 2nd the 3 prefix option :)

Jafo232 07-17-2007 04:18 PM

Yes, I think coding, skinning (designing, whatever), or mixed. Personally, it would not break my heart if the old posts are not updated, just the new ones. I also think it will get it into the users mind that there is a difference between the two. :)

Nah, lets see those new staff edit it all manually as a test

EnIgMa1234 07-17-2007 06:15 PM

I 4th the prefix idea

Funny, this just happened to me today. I answered a Paid Request and the person was German so there was a language barrier. Once we finally got it figured out, he was looking for a designer, not a coder.. We did get a laugh out of it when I pointed him to this thread. :P

hambil 07-17-2007 09:03 PM

I would like to see that forum replaced with the project add-on, TBH. It has everything needed. You can add custom fields like a cost range, and those fields are searchable. You can also check whether a request is open, has been completed, is assigned, etc...

People looking to hire could easily search for completed requests by a coder or designer, to get a feel for what they've worked on before and how successful they've been. Coders and designers could find projects more efficiently, instead of getting "I've already found someone" 50% of the time.

Those are just a few advantages off the top of my head.

Jafo232 08-01-2007 04:12 PM

Perhaps with the new project product this could be accomplished?

MaestroX 08-02-2007 08:24 PM

I think the prefeix idea is great, it will really help me out

I 5th the prefix idea :)

Jafo232 08-16-2007 03:29 AM

Ok, I will 6th it!
