snakes1100 07-12-2007 11:12 PM

Mrdby 07-12-2007 11:13 PM

I mean i installed the read pm hack..but certain pms don;t show..like 1 2 3 and then skipped to 7 8 9 10 understand? 4 5 and 6 ARE MISSING.

snakes1100 07-12-2007 11:16 PM

I don't use that hack and cant elaborate on it, PM's are personal messages and shouldn't be read by you anyways.

well its my site and do pretty much what I want...and if it was that serious..they wouldn't have made the hack...and ever think my site need to have pms read? Thanks for nothing.

snakes1100 07-12-2007 11:22 PM

Yes your welcome, that is actually illegal in some countries.

I won't elaborate on the person who made the hack, that was by his choice, better check and make sure your not violating laws in your country by reading personal messages like that.

You can't read deleted messages, they're DELETED, meaning they're wiped from the database....

When someone deletes a PM - either the recipient, or you, or another admin/owner of the board... it gets deleted from that database table. So, no.. once it's gone, it's gone.

However, if you make and save periodic backups of your database tables, you could recover that deleted message by looking through the data from an earlier period of time -- at some point after the message was sent and before it was removed.

Illegal in Norway too. And it's just morally wrong. Unless you inform your board members, which I highly doubt you do.

SGL.

Can you offer any supporting documentation? and BTW, way to bump a thread that's half a year old.

Spank 10-12-2007 04:39 PM

3 months.

Paul M 10-12-2007 06:39 PM

The PM system works slightly differently to other areas of vbulletin - deleting a PM does not delete the text of the PM (at the time) - it just deletes the pmid record. The text gets deleted by one of the hourly cleanup crons (only if no pmid records point to it). Since people may have a record in their sent items folder, the PM will often still exist in the database.

there is nothing there stating that it is illegal in Italy to do such a thing. unethical, yes... but not illegal.

No, it is forbidden from the law to profane the other people's privacy, how to read the email on other computers, messages of the mobile phones and also in this case read the private messages of the other, I am Italian and I know some laws of my country about that, there are peoples that for this paid the penalty.

With the present laws in Italy, going in tribunal if they say a*s*s*h*o*l*e to a person.

Think for the above reason, Read private Message, what happen....

You'd go to that if you said what you just wrote to someone? Jeez, that would cause a lot of arguments, lawsuits and complaints in some situations (schools, sporting events, etc).

As for it being illegal there... and even though I don't live in that country... what if it's the terms of service and rules clearly outlined that all communications are monitored.

As to the topic creator... you've just made me think of what kind of mod is sadly missing... one to only allow members to soft delete PMs rather than fully deleting them from the database. So if anyone can make that, I think a lot of people would be grateful.

I'm sorry to say, but I think you're not understanding the specifics of the Italian law. You cannot supersede in another's instrument (key point) to read their message, emails, conversations, or whatever. When users are using YOUR forum on YOUR server that law does not apply. For example you cannot use any instrument to circumvent another's person computer to read their emails there... or another server in which you do not own or lease or rent, etc. You cannot intercept cell phone conversations. So again, I'll ask where specifically does any Italian Law state what you're claiming.

Masiello 10-15-2007 01:57 PM

You imagine this, I use for example flashchat on my forum, if I had not writer in the clear letters on my forum rules that the flashchat make log for the conversations, me are against law and I could be denounced from people if they know that I've do without announce this in any way. Returning at yours speech, my server host resides in Italy, and have to respect that privacy law, in any mode I do not want to insist and I will inform myself surely better.

Nice Conversations :)
Paece and Love

*sorry my bad english*

May I just say this: I run a forum which is meant for children and teenagers, and I feel I have a moral and ethical responsibility to read Private Messages because there are some screwed up people on the internet, and I don't want any child predators going after anybody through my website.
