vBulletin Wordpress CMS Integration

When I was deciding which forum software I was going to support first for my initial software release at Raven Technologies, I came across two problems:

Wordpress forum support was poor and that vBulletin didn't have a Social Networking system like IPB, so I started writing and researching about these two issues. The result were two solutions that will be release as product and free limited versions.

I'm hoping to gain the support of the community and to be able to complete these 3 projects in due time, the first is a social network that will be easily integrated into your Wordpress CMS and the other two are plug-ins that will integrate your vBulletin board or IPB with Wordpress, now you have a world class CMS like Wordpress with Social Networking capabilities and the proven stability and flexibility of vBulletin and IPB.

Wordpress Social Network System
, I will talk about this later on.

With Raven Technologies I want to create a one stop resource for forum integration with other CMS, please read on what I'm currently working on:

Wordpress and IPB/vBulletin User Database and Skin Integration Project
WordPress
is a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is a free blogging system that be extended and used a full blown Content Management System.

vBulletin and IPB, together IPB/vBulletin and Wordpress can create beautiful websites that can be flexible, expandable and scalable.

This project is a product that is easy to install and easy to integrate, you will need to install Wordpress and install this product as a Wordpress plug-in.

Wordpress IPB/vBulletin integration plug-in features:

Entirely self-contained within a plug-in. It provides seamless integration with your existing theme with full theme customization, use of your existing WordPress users table, search, pretty permalinks, full moderator controls and RSS feeds for individual forums, topics and users.

  • User Database Integration: Integrates existing accounts into Wordpress.
  • Invidual Database Support: Wordpress and IPB/vBulletin DO NOT need to have the same databse for this plug-in to work.
  • New Registration Integration: Wordpress will use IPB's/vBulletin's registration process to create new accounts for its blogging/cms.
  • Skin Integration: Wordpress will insert header, footer and CSS templates into IPB's/vBulletin's header and footer bit template for full skin integration. A great example of this would be the following blog:http://www.newathens.org Note Wordpress site above.

Free version wil be limited database integration.

Currently in BETA TESTING, click here be a beta tester.

It will be a "ONE CLICK INTEGRATION" no more dealing with file edits, I will make it dummy proof.

We are building 3 Wordpress themes and 3 matching vBulleting Web 2.0 skins, also there will be two ways to match your Wordpress to vBulletin's skin, one by an Iframe and the other by inserting Wordpress' header, CSS and footer into vBulletin's skin code. All in one click!

Hehe, I think most here are cool w/ editing files, it just takes time but is pretty darn easy.

But thanks for making it a one button mod, those are always really impressive.

I'm tired of editing files, I have spent 4 hours editing files just to get a forum running the way I want it to run and I think plug-ins could be made a lot easier if the modification coder spent a bit more time coding the modification so that the end user doesn't need to edit any files, and waste time.

Dismounted 06-18-2007 08:00 AM

Why did you edit the files? Do you mean edit the plugins?

vcruiser 06-18-2007 12:28 PM

For me this will be the ultimate system. How soon?

2-3 weeks for the vBulletin integration.

You are reading our minds, we are building the ultimate system... after the vBulletin integration is finished we will move on and build the Wordpress Social Network plug-in.

Progress is steady at 75%

I'm very interested in this project!

All I'm looking for right now is a vBulletin mod or WordPress plugin that does the following:
  • When an article is published, a corresponding thread is created in the vBulletin forum. (I achieve this via RSS right now)
  • The 'comment' link on the wordpress article should point to the vBulletin thread where people can reply.
  • The comment count on the wordpress article should show the number of replies in the corresponding thread.
That's it, sounds pretty straight forward but there doesn't seem to be a sollution for that just yet. I'm hoping this new project will help! :)

I'm not too bothered about the skin integration, but if you could turn it into a sort of portal system that'd be great. I'm desperately looking for a way to get the threads from one of my forums up on my homepage in a blog style system. The only way I've found so far is either vbadvanced (which I hate) or Joomla import from an RSS feed. Sadly, the plugin I use is majorly flawed and very incomplete. Without going into the various details, it's not suitable for day-to-day use, and the developers have either fallen asleep or given up.

Anywho, if there's some sort of way to get the latest threads (complete with a few hundred characters and images) automatically pasted up on the homepage like news, I'll be very interested. It's basically so that I can keep the homepage up to date without manually adding all the content myself. I've had very little luck tracking down such a system.

I'm just the opposite from the poster above. I'm not as concerned about the complicated fusion of the two products, as much as I would like the skin integration.

I have tried a variety of different methods and plugins to make my WordPress header appear automatically on my forums to no avail.

Anyone know how to do this? I'm sure it would be a relatively quick and easy fix for a more experienced programmer.

EJRaven 07-07-2007 08:19 AM

Wordpress vBulletin Skin Integration.

I think importing your last post/threads to your wordpress as a widget would be great too, I will see if this can be done in our official release, or maybe sooner than later.

InvisionBridget's vBulletin integration script will do this automatically or in some cases you will have access to our integration guide (for some skins, it's hard to do this)

snoopy5 10-17-2007 08:40 AM

any news on this?

Sjakie 10-24-2007 11:03 AM

Is the project still up and running? Because the link to your beta testers website doesn't work.

EJRaven 12-19-2007 12:56 AM

The integration is now ready.

SBlueman 12-19-2007 05:49 AM

I wish there was a way to make the vbulletin skin work on wordpress. It seems this only does wordpress to vbulletin. I am trying to get the vbulletin header with navbars and login fields to work for me and I have had no success.

pspcrazy 12-20-2007 09:06 PM

EJRaven is this a full out vbulletin to wordpress type deal? Also what about importing the previous data from Jafo's mod into this one.

MotMann 12-20-2007 11:12 PM

Where i can DL the Plug In?

i need my Style from Wp to use in vB ;)

gigaenvy 12-26-2007 10:35 PM

EJ,

What are your thoughts on the order (sequence) of creating a new site? Should I create the VB site first and then install and integrate Wordpress and your plugin, or install Wordpress first and integrate Vbulletin?

Is there a recommended order of installation when starting from scratch - in other words, I have no website with neither vbulletin nor wordpress installed for my next site?

Thanks,
G
