What are Profile Field Tags?

- Simple, I will give an example :)

Code:

Normal Member info Page

Interests; games, pc, video games, doom

Clickable User Fields Member Page

Interests; games, pc, video games, doom

As you can see they Words are now are linked, so making it easier to users to search for users with similar interest. Similar to how facebook and other sites work.

Instructions go to AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> [Sniper] - Profile Field Tags for options

Demo http://www.hardwareforums.com/members/sniper/

Support I can provide better support at www.talkcoding.com

Upgrade You must uninstall the old version called "Clickable User Fields" and then install this.

wow this is really awesome.

thanks

pcoskat 06-01-2007 10:58 PM

Nice! The version for 3.5 was always one of my favorite mods. Glad to see an update for 3.6!

nikki712 06-02-2007 12:12 AM

Great mod! I only have one question. Can you tell me which comma to remove so that it doesn't show up? The profile fields I'm using this mod for doesn't have multiple answers in it, so I have no need for the comma. I'm just not sure which one(s) to remove from the code. Thanks!

FreshFroot 06-02-2007 01:05 AM

seems pretty cool, will try it out :D

rjmjr69 06-02-2007 02:37 AM

I'll remove the last comma, so you get the desired effect, will release it sometime today.

Congratulation with a fantastic usefull hack! I wonder why this is not a default feature in vbulletin...?! I just installed it - and until now it seems to work perfect!

I've never understood that, either.

I guess it doesn't matter. As long as we have Sniper, we're cool!

*nominates for MOTM*

Kihon Kata 06-03-2007 02:48 PM

Didn't work for me LOL, could be that I have a total custom member's page. Here is an example of one: http://www.makeuptalk.com/forums/mem...r0n-35363.html

Oh, I can't remember if you have to register or not to see our profiles or not. Sorry if you do.

what didnt work for you? I need more info if you want to have it working on your forum. Have you made sure each field is searchable via profile fields in admincp.

ThorstenA 06-03-2007 04:34 PM

Very great! Perfect.

Nominated for Hack of the Month

Just go to AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> [Sniper] - Profile Field Tags for options

There you can enter the searchable profile field IDs.

Yep, I enabled it already LOL. I thought there was some other setting. Does it matter if I am running a custom member.php? I even added some IDs there, we have many.

-=Sniper=- 06-03-2007 09:56 PM

by custom you mean the template or the actual php file? if its the file most likely, it its only the template it should work fine, I can check it out if you PM with access.

mrahul 06-04-2007 06:28 AM

does this work for 3.6.3 or 3.6.4 ??

old version will https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=120833

edit: I'm not sure when the changes were made to the way the profile fields are handled but I assume since 3.6.*, I'll remove the dependency and you can then try it on 3.6.x.

BWJ 06-04-2007 08:24 PM

As said - you have made a fantastic hack! One little suggestion you may consider: When you click a profile field on a member page - the member list is shown with members with the same profile field data. So what I suggest is that you make the profile fields in the shown member list clickable as well. This makes it even easier for user to click/search around.

SLY LS1 06-05-2007 02:09 PM

Great mod.... luv it

cheers

Didn't work. In fact it broke the members pages. It doubled what was displayed and spaced things out bad.

Thanks for trying.

-=Sniper=- 06-07-2007 11:58 AM

I just tested it localy and it works fine! I assume your members have URLs, HTML, or similar coding in their profile fields?

edit: I just checked your forum again, it does seem like your members have HTML links, etc in the fields. While members who have only entered in test e.g. "ball, game, text, form" etc it works fine for them.

Our users have normal BBCODE available in their profiles.

What I did was just installed the xml and it really messed things up on my own profile. I saw everything double in the first field. Go check it out. (the hack is currently disabled)

-=Sniper=- 06-07-2007 12:39 PM

ok, if you have a quick look at my profile on your site, you will see its works, however when using BBCODE in the fields, e.g. bold, it works, but it also includes <b>value</b> in the link, it would require more code to remove these items from the link.

Using bbcode links does break it, again it can be fixed but since using BBCODE in profile fields isnt a default vBulletin feature, I won't make any more changes I'm affraid.

I guess I cannot use it then :(

Hey,

Why not make the "Age" & "Date of Birth" be clickable. That'll be cool.

P.S - If possbile, can you please make it searchable by "word" ? One of my member has this as his interest: I love music and I love to dance. < Your product makes the sentence clickable, can you please make every word in that sentence clickable? That will be amazing.

Thanks.

I will look into birthday search.

It would not be ideal to make words like "I", "to", "have" clickable, instead ask users to separate each word or sentence they want linked with a comma.

but if you really want to you can edit the plugin and change the code

find all instances of

PHP Code:

$fieldvalues explode(","$profilefield['value']);

and replace with

PHP Code:

$fieldvalues explode(" "$profilefield['value']);

that should work.
