Web Proxy Redirector [BETA]

Current Version is in BETA

What is it?
This hack was designed to prevent users from using a web based proxy such as http://www.dontfilter.us/ to circumvent a IP address ban. It uses javascript to determine if the current domain matches the forum's domain. If it does not match, then it redirects the user to the website of your choosing. If the proxy strips the javascript code, then the forum will not be visible to the user, and a error message will be shown.

Effectiveness
This has been tested and has blocked at least 90% of all web proxies. Best of all, this hack requires no template hacks. The hack is completely self-contained in the product file.
Phrases are used for the informational messages.

Instructions
Instructions are included in the zip file.

Demonstration
For a demonstration, you may attempt to visit my forum http://www.isosdcftp.com through a web proxy such as http://www.dontfilter.us/.

History
  • Version 1.0
    Original Code
  • Version 1.2
Increased Proxy Detection massively. Good luck finding a working proxy.
Increased Browser Compatability by using the widely supported writeln function
Obfuscated Javascript code to confuse parsers such as the one in use at xroxy.com
    Decreased javascript code size slightly
  • Version 1.2.1
    Fixed Broken Javascript code
  • Version 1.2.2
    Fixed Settings Panel problem
Fixed compatibility issue with Hellcat's Realtime Page Compressor

Known Bugs
Not compatible with Safari

Special thanks goes to rjmjr69

SWEET works like a charm.... Out of the 200+ free proxy sites I've tried I have only found 2 that will allow me thru. Not bad if you ask me. Thanks ISO look forward to see what you have up your sleeve next..........

FreshFroot 05-15-2007 02:13 AM

nice stuff man and thanks.

bashy 05-15-2007 05:04 AM

Hi, I tried your demo, it said no proxies allowed then redirected me to your site, was it meant to do that lol?

DementedMindz 05-15-2007 06:58 AM

yeah bashy it did the same thing for me also lol

Greek76 05-15-2007 08:18 AM

It lets Xroxy.com go through to your site just tried it lol. But regardless going to install I like it and I worry about individuals registering under proxies.

SnickersTK 05-15-2007 09:07 AM

This is wonderful, thanks!

and hope it'll soon support more proxies!

redlabour 05-15-2007 10:17 AM

Uninstalled because there are no real Options at AdminCP.

I have nearly 20 Domains my Board is hosted on - to much work to enter everyone directly at the Plugin-Code.

Waiting for a Update with Linkback at Productmanager at AdminCP to vb.org and a real useable Menu.

projectego 05-15-2007 10:32 AM

Awesome! I'm definitely installing this one. Cheers. ;)

Mrdby 05-15-2007 10:43 AM

what now?

Luky 05-15-2007 11:10 AM

I love you. Such a brilliant thinker! To bad if the person is viewing the forums in an iFrame, but eh, the chances are small :)

Charlie98902 05-15-2007 11:30 AM

AOL users always use a proxy does this effect them?

Luky 05-15-2007 11:41 AM

No, it shouldnt as AOL users use a browser that is in their browser or something like that, this mod checks the url for stuff like

Yes, that is the purpose of this plugin. It detects if the user is using a proxy, and if so it redirects then to the site of your choosing. In this case my url.

It seams as if xroxy.com uses a sophisticated javascript parser. This will be fixed in the next update.

A update is under development, and will address all of your complaints :)

No, this only affects users that use web based proxies. This does not affect users such as AOL users that use traditional port based proxies.

Snake 05-15-2007 03:46 PM

isosdcftp, I have three words for you. I love you! :D I've been waiting for a proxy hack such as this one and it's finally here. Thank you, thank you very much!

Just a couple of suggestions here. I was wondering if you could add a couple of features to the hack such as "Web Proxy Ban", you know. So the hack can do one of the other; either ban proxies or redirect them to the original URL address. I think that would be great.

Mrdby 05-15-2007 03:54 PM

maybe i should wait for the next update to install!

bitdefuser 05-15-2007 06:50 PM

I've disabled Javascript on my browser and have gotten this error (Just like if I was using proxies):
Quote:

Sorry, you must have javascript enabled to view this site.
That's kind of a bummer. It blocks EVERYONE who has Javascript disabled, regardless of proxies or not.

One would expect people to have JavaScript running considering most sites use it. Not having it active would be a crap browsing experience.
Good work Iso can't wait to see what the update brings.

morrow 05-15-2007 07:37 PM

Just gives me a blank page. Not only that but it looks like it blocked my work proxy. I can't access my site from work unless I disable it.

LOL well I guess thats your confirmation that it is working correctly. Dont forget you have to enter a page to redirect the users too or you'll get a blank page. Next release will have this option in the Admin Cp.

This hack works so well Even some of the advanced members are having troubles getting around it...

whitetigergrowl 05-16-2007 04:25 AM

http://proxy.org/

Try it against those proxies. ;)

Some work, some don't.

MThornback 05-16-2007 04:51 AM

You are a genius :) nominated for MOTM :)

Murty 05-16-2007 05:16 AM

This is awesome! I was having problems with banned users doing this only yesterday. Definate install! Just a thought though, for the demo, perhaps have it redirect to like google or something rather than your site. freaked me out a bit until i read your post at the bottom of the first page.

otherwise... FANTASTIC, ill vote for ya MOTM

MThornback 05-16-2007 05:25 AM

I redirected to google :) I almost have myself a damn heart attack till I re-read the part about NOT using http:// in the whitelist :p

peterpigman 05-16-2007 07:34 PM

Am getting this error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '=' in /home/robjr75/public_html/forum/global.php(550) : eval()'d code on line 56

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: print_portal_output() in /home/robjr75/public_html/index.php on line 72

When using ie.

rjmjr69 05-16-2007 07:52 PM

Some proxy's out there will get passed it as it stands now but it will be worked on some more. Any more suggestion for the next release?

Are you sure that is caused by this product? Reason I am asking is because the product does not call 'print_portal_output()' anywhere in the code.

rjmjr69 05-17-2007 08:54 PM

Wheres my update? lol

Barakat 05-17-2007 10:33 PM

well done.

puertoblack2003 05-17-2007 11:58 PM

nice job another useful tool for my forum

rjmjr69 05-18-2007 12:12 AM

WOW with the new code he has coming out. I couldnt find not even ONE proxy that could get thru... Amazing this should be a part of the Next VB release.

Mrdby 05-18-2007 01:03 AM

So Is This Worth Using?

OMG is it. If you have problem causing members this is your answer. Anyone that has those members who get banned then come right back using a proxy this is your answer to get rid of them for good.

Mrdby 05-18-2007 01:30 AM

ok where so i find this in my admincp?

MThornback 05-18-2007 01:34 AM

Yea there is no settings group in the attached zip....did you update the instructions but not the xml? :p

(btw...this hack...will save SO many headaches...I vote you MVP of the 3.6.x series :D)

Mrdby 05-18-2007 01:36 AM

huh? i'm in my admin cp and see nothing to update.

MThornback 05-18-2007 01:39 AM

the product XML has nothing in the settings group...the plugin was reconfigured to work with settings that you can't enter cause the fields aren't there.\

In other words...the half of this mod that lets you configure it isn't in the package atm, he probably forgot to add it in is all :)

Mrdby 05-18-2007 01:39 AM

well do you have it?

rjmjr69 05-18-2007 01:40 AM

Woops
