vBulletin 3.6.6

Preview versions of 3.6.6 have been running on a number of forums for the last few weeks as well as vbulletin.com - and Jelsoft have announced today that all being well, it will be officially released this Friday May 11th.

More details of this and the status of other projects can be found here.

vbulletin.org will be upgrading to version 3.6.6 as soon as we have the time after the official release.

vBulletin 3.6.6

The code of vBulletin 3.6.6 has been running on this forum for some time now and with the exception of a few minor bugs that are still in the process of being ironed out, it's ready to release.

Therefore, barring unforseen circumstances, vBulletin 3.6.6 will be released this Friday, May 11th 2007.

Version 3.6.6 contains all the bug fixes that were ommitted from 3.6.5 and includes several changes and improvements, most notably full support for the upcoming Project Tools and Blog products and several new hook locations. We will include more information about the changes in the release announcement on Friday. This will be a fairly major upgrade with several database alterations, so ensure that your backups are up-to-date before upgrading.

vBulletin Project Tools

The new vBulletin Project Tools system has been running here on vBulletin.com for several weeks now and has proved to be a big improvement over the previous bug tracker. Development on the system is all but completed now and following the release of vBulletin 3.6.6 it will be time to commence the private beta stage. This will happen early next week.

If you would like to be considered for the private beta program, time is running out, as the application system will be closed when vBulletin 3.6.6 is released to the public on Friday.

To those who have already applied to be included in the private beta - thank you. We will be contacting those we have selected to test the code for us shortly. Once again, if you are not selected to be a beta tester, please do not be offended - it's nothing personal, we simply have a specific set of conditions we need to test and your board may not fit the bill.

vBulletin Blog

Development on the vBulletin Blog product is going well. The blogging aspect of the system is 90% complete at this stage and our focus has now switched to the social networking component.

For those asking about release dates, without being too specific I can say that the blog is on schedule to be at least in the beta stage before the end of Q2 2007.

We hope to be able to bring you some more information and some blog screenshots in the next few weeks.

Explains it :)

It's always recommended that you upgrade to the newest version. However, it's not required to do. I prefer to stay up-to-date with vBulletin.

DieselMinded 05-09-2007 11:29 PM

Im planning to :) Just Hope it comes with good Instructions ;)

It's really easy. All you do is upload all the files (except for install/install.php), replacing the old ones and upgrade basically the same way you installed.

DieselMinded 05-09-2007 11:34 PM

I think there should be an official release date shown on vBulletin.com aswel as in your admincp for all new releases

Why?

vB is not just used fpersonal forums, many businesses also use it and it would be a good idea to give them a weeks notice of when its going to be released so they can post an announcement to there customers etc..

STT 05-10-2007 08:09 PM

Thanks for the blog ETA Paul - I realise it's not set in stone or anything like that, but it's very helpful just to know what you'd like to aim for.

I've never upgraded vBulletin before and have a number of hacks - am I right in thinking the hacks can't be guaranteed to work with the upgrade? If so, I'm wondering if the safe option is to wait for required hacks to appear for the upgrade before I go full steam ahead - is this a sensible approach?

wengi 05-10-2007 08:20 PM

I have the same question > Will the Mods for 3.6.5 work on 3.6.6 ?

I'm wondering that same thing. More than likely they will though. It all depends on how many template/php changes there was made

I can't think of any reason why not. The odd one may need a tweak.

kall 05-11-2007 01:36 AM

Aside from the project tools working on it, I haven't noticed anything different about 3.6.6.

As it's just a minor release I don't actually *expect* it to be any different.

DieselMinded 05-11-2007 01:38 AM

How long does VBulletin Go before upgrades like this on average?

we're still waiting :D
it might be released in any minute

Distance 05-11-2007 09:30 AM

Lol it might..

I thought this was meant to be quite a big release?

Its certainly been a long time since the previous release (3.6.4) (3.6.4 because 3.6.5 was because of an exploit.
