VIKI (vb wiki - "inhouse" wiki)
WIKI in vbull. NOT a port or bridge. But to actually make a forum a wiki, or very wiki like forum. I think I've seen all the elements are there in separate hacks at one point or another...but the right mix would make a simple but well-integrated wiki.
Basically, all that would be needed i think is:
(ie: permissions completely different for select forum as now, but INCLUDING permission settings for editing posts. so have one forum be "OPEN".)
Would be great for instructions, faqs, and any posts that needed constant updates and well..all the things that wiki is normally good for. Anyway... beats having to deal with annoying wiki protocol and/or hacks to bridge it mediawiki or whatever wiki software someone uses. any takers? supporters of the idea? |
so, no one for an "inhouse" vbWiki? doh!
|
It's a great idea.
If you are lucky, and I doubt you are, vB will release one as an addon product. vbWiki at nuhit.com is excellent. Media Wiki is a great wiki. People know it. Getting people to learn a wiki system is hard. A "looks and feels" just like vBulletin wiki is a great idea. A wiki with AJAX ... hmmmmm..... |

with all the wiki interest out there (and I remmeber a 293847923847 long post thread on a mediawiki integration back in 3.0 or so) ... I'd think a simple add-on that turned vbulletin itself into a wiki would have more interest for people. and I agree... learning wiki protocal stuff is a pain, imo and its NOT user friendly. this way.. no plugins and integration or "dual site-itus" to worry about. and heck yah..... vb WIki with Ajax!! that makes so much sense and would be pwnage. |
I'd pay $100 for a tight vB wiki with AJAX. I'll probably get vBwiki (MediaWiki Integration). For anyone that runs a site that is trying to accomplish anything, forums just don't cut it. It's plainly obvious.
The people that run sites that want a wiki are MORE than willing to pay for some good stuff. Forums are for +++++ing and bantering back and forth. Nuttin gets done. Tags are a desperate way to bring some flexible organization to rigidly hidden posts that will *VERY* soon be forgotten. never mind vBwiki, Jelsoft should release a product that *IS* integrateable with vBulletin - BUT - could also be standalone. vBulletin - for Bulletin boards vWiki - for wikis. (Note to Jelsoft: www.vwiki.com is available) I guess most users "understand" bulletin boards easily. Most "got the bucks to spend" users wanting more, want a wiki. but http://www.vcms.com/ is gone :P Hmmm ... could this addon be used as a Pseudo-NoN-editable wiki ? Mindestic GlosPro 1.2.2 https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=132632 |
I'd love to see jelsoft take this on officially...though with that blogs and social network and product tracker add-ons they are about to release...I don't have any high hopes for something anytime soon....
but again, I agree, I think a very suitable add-on (which could act as a standalone as well) would be feasible with a couple simple tweeks from a good programmer. like I said: all the functionality of a true wiki, but using vbulletin standard functions (so people don't have to learn wiki protocol stuff). And the ajaxed powered version would make it a killer. I don't think mindestic would cut it. so, if I wasn't explicit... like infonirv said, I be willing to pay for it and I think plenty others would as well. |
dude. the timing of this is incredible.
your dreams and mine, are answered. amazing. this is going to be the most popular vB addon ever. it's awesome. http://www.nuhit.com/nuwiki/features.html awesome. |
omg!! sweet!
sounds awesome... only one problem... I couldn't find a link to purchase it!!! +_+ lol. did you get it? |
weird. their site is DNSing. I've been going there for a year and it's never been down. hmmmm. maybe they are blocking my IP because I spilled the beans on this product !
I don't think it's for sale yet. I hope I didn't make them mad ! heh. You can test out all the functionality on their site. It's a fairly simple, BUT POWERFUL, concept. I played with it yesterday at nuhit.com just check back later I say. |

What happened is that we had a conflict between Mint and vbSEO when using IE6. And on top of that there is a router acting up in the data center where our servers are located. (Still working on this). Quote:

Just to plug NuWiki, we are just testing it now and it looks to be EXACTLY like what the original poster was asking for. And its way less than the $100 that someone else suggested they'd pay for it.
|
I"m so happy to have found this. I really hope it meets the needs of my users, I'm happy to purchase it if you provide support! :)
|
Hi there, yes, this is supported, and comes with 30-days money back. For more information refer to NuWiki Features page.

Highly recommended. and worth every cent. Still needs a bit of tweeking and getting used to for set up (instructions bit slim), but does the job, and only looks to get better. |
Is it possible to configure a nuwiki page so that it doesn't look like a forum post? It would be cool to be able to use something like this as a CMS to build an entire website around, integrated with vB to provide per-page user feedback / discussion.
|
Just wanted to mention that NuWiki has gone defunct, but we have taken up a commercial vbulletin-based wiki product over at my site that seeks to improve upon all of the pitfalls of NuWiki, but that is still actively supported (and we expect that it will be for quite some time).
Here's a link to the product page: VaultWiki |
Will that run on 3.6.8? (I know it says 3.7, just wondering if anyone has tried it on 3.6.8). Also, can you simply uninstall the nuhit NuWiki and replace it with the VaultWiki or do you need to do something to get VaultWiki to work with old NuWiki posts?
|
Does anyone know if vB team is planning on releasing a wiki as a standard feature or as an add-on? It seems that demand is there, but no company makes a solid supported product for some reason.
|
You should ask such a question on vB.com. No developer will notice your question here.
|
Hey is there something like this for free anywhere? the ability for users to add to the first post of a forum? Thanks
