Thinking of switching

I`m thinking of switching from our SMF board to Vbulletin.

Before I buy a yearly license, I have a couple of questions:

Is there a free community gallery module available, similar to the IPB Gallery (but free)?
Can Impex (the converter) covert everything from the latest SMF board? If not what can it convert?

That`s about it, thanks.

there are some "free" galleries that plug into vBulletin, but the best ones like IPB Gallery are Photopost and it is basically the same price as the IPB one... but with a lot more features.

Impex can convert your latest SMF board for free.. :)

Go for an owned license. Its a little more upfront but the total cost of ownership is cheaper over the long run.

Go for the OWNED license :)

I went from SMF to vBulletin and could not be happier. Impex did the trick.

Sometimes impex won't pickup avatar settings and pictures correctly, it did not do so when i was running SMF 1.1RC2, however it should do so now.

I'd reccommend this https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=101368

It's light, fully contolable and easy to use!

I second this although I would say buy the Pro version. It is awesome!

Yeah the owned version is around twice as much as the yearly version, which is a good deal in the long run.

I might consider it.

How long after the order is done and paid with paypal funds does it take before I get the license etc?

straight away AFAIK

How quickly you get the license info depends on the payment method you use. The quickest is with PayPal using the funds in your PayPal account. This should take just a few minutes unless the payment was an eCheck payment, in which case it usually takes 3-5 business days to clear.

The Metacharge credit card option also just takes a few minutes.

The Worldpay credit card option can take up to 24 hours to be verified.

Wire Transfers can take up to 4-6 business days.

And finally checks can take as long as necessary for the check to reach us, be deposited and clear our bank.

License information, regardless of payment method, is not issued until the payment clears our system.

All done.

Paid using paypal and was pretty much instant.

Regarding access to these forums. I currently have the pink box along the top. I have clicked `member support` link in the box, I assume I add the email address I have associated with this forum?

Is there a waiting period before the pink box clears and I get access?

Thanks.

I'm considering purchasing VBulletin, but I just found what appears to be the same thing, but absolutely FREE! http://www.simplemachines.org/ Apparently some of you have, or are using it. What's up with that? What are the major weaknesses?

I was using SMF and liked it for the most part. However, IMO there is no way of comparing the two. Yes it is Free but Free is not always best. The look... the feel... the support... this site... all of it is hands down the best as far as I am concerned.

Eventually, you all will be owned by vB. :)
