Godaddy Hosting Package for new forum
Hello,
I just purchace a leased license and i need to set up hosting with godaddy. My forum is just starting, so I doubt a dedicated server is necessary at the moment. Could someone review the available plans https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosti...5Fhdr=&ci=5652 and make a recomendation? Thanks for your help. |
Instead of suggesting a plan, I will suggest not even considering GoDaddy for vB Forum hosting.

Very SLOW.

I started with Go Daddy and just last night, I spent 6 hours transferring my site to Westhost. Go Daddy isn't one of the greatest out there...here are my vices with it:
- I have a small site...about 125 or so members...20 on at any given time...something like that... - In the last two weeks, it was taking about 5 seconds to for a post to actually post and to traverse through my site. It used to take about 2 secs.... - I call the tech support and they pretty much blame it on vBulletin s/w being to intensive on resources... - They immediately try to sell the bigger dedicated plan...pshhh... for 20 active users??? At Westhost.com, it is lightning fast...posts take less than a second and that is with over 30 members on... I had problems importing my DB and the technical support was AWESOME! They ended up doing it for me....and that was at 2am. I would keep my options open when it comes to Go Daddy... |
just do a search for GoDaddy and you'll see the million of complaints... stay away from them.
|
Good enough for me.... Godaddy is out!!... ok so im now looking a the business pro plan at westhost. Here are the specs
http://www.westhost.com/package-compare.html Will this work for a new fourm? Should I add anything? |

You get everything you need to get started and enough room/ bandwidth for a moderately sized site.... The tech guys are really helpful too. |
IX webhosting, $100 a year for 400 GB space and 2500 GB bandwidth=business plan (I own one for my gaming community, very fast, great customer service.) $150 for Unlimited space and 3000 GB bandwidth.
http://ixwebhosting.com <<<<<<Highly recommended! |
or try Bashys Hosting with realistic prices and packages :)

<a href="http://www.admhosting.net" target="_blank">http://www.admhosting.net</a> are my hosting. They are very good, $60 a year for 3gb Disk Space and 50 Bandwith for the Anniversary Package, excellent service and you can also work out a custom package to suit your needs.
|
Never pay yearly. :)
|
I thought you couldnt even setup any php scripts with godaddy due to their wierd settings.

I will suggest not even considering GoDaddy for ANY hosting. |
My website is on GoDaddy.com and I have had no problems whatsoever. I love it.

Do a search on vb.com forums and you will find many posts by members that had real problems with goDaddy hosting. That is not bashing, but real stories.
If it works for you then i don't see any reason to move, but it doesn't work for many. |
hey i am one of them, i am having some error problem on my site and their(godaddy) advance tech support is telling me to break down database into small folders. not to mention i have their deluxe plan and its a new site.looking for a new host now:mad:
|
for the people with no-problem on go-daddy, i see that they have minimal forums, with like 10 online users at a time... that's fair for any host anyway, even the free ones... you can't complain when you don't use the resources...
my own advice is to look at webhosts that already have a lot of vBulletin boards on them... see my siggy ?!... HostGator is set to receive the biggest vBulletin forums... even the lowest package have the requirements, and when you have any package, you can choose from PHP 4.3x to 5.1x... best for big sites! and the best with HostGator... they have a support forum... a vBulletin!!!... so they know it works! their 5000+ clients are members of the forum, that's how they deal with direct support! |
thnx i will try them features look quite interesting. what could be better if they have v bulletin, so they know what we need.do they help in transferring the board cause i am new at this

but here on vB.org, you can require a Paid Service: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=30 and ask for a helper.. :) |
Just to let you know, dont even try and host with Godaddy. Just dont.

Just to add to everyone's comment, godaddy hosting isnt as much bad and isnt as much good, however with proper knowledge they do actually have a very good structure which allows you to optimize your resources manually, now since thats not as easy as if it exists on a panel, many users would complain.
I run 3 dedicated servers from them, as well as a reseller plan as well as shared hosting plans, all with them , I know many complain about them, but i ran many dedicated servers from other datacenters and to be honest, if you are experienced and you know what you need you should have no problem whatsoever., Aside from my forum, i have moved 4 forums to shared plans, and left few on my dedicated servers, all are running as much as needed. Now to elaborate on TRUE problems, that only experienced can bypass , 1: SMTP relays are limited by default to 250 mails, thats actually awsome for them, because it protects them from those who host just to send spam, for us it takes a procedure ( EVEN ON DEDICATED SERVERS we had limits ), you send them email form on raising limits, why and how its intended to use, they never deny it as long as you show what you have and increase limits, this info is not listed everywhere. 2: MYSQL will be a huge problem for huge databases, not because it cannot process them, but dump an restore can be a pain because max dump would be 500Mbs , and mine for example exceeds that ,so mysql loses connection when restoring or backing up databses. I learnt that only after i moved my personal forum to a shared one, however the tweak is available, since you have no ssh, i used a custom php dumper, i tweaked it to wait few second before processing next lines. In short, their servers and stability is great, but they are nothing close to be friendly ie: you need to write your own htaccess and htpasswd manually if u need one , dump databases and back them up using your own third party plugins, etc etc. USE godaddy when you know these stuff, if u dont, simply look for a friendly host ! |
i use bluehost.com. great hosting, fast speed and awsome customer service. like8 bucks a month.

Their 24 hour support guys suggested I ask their admin to move me onto another server because of poor access speed and constant database connect errors. Their admin guys refused to move me saying there was nothing wrong with the present server !? Members were emailing me to ask if the forum was down because they could not access the site and when they did finally get on, they gave up and left for the day 'cos the site was so slow in loading. |
@lebanon
I don't think many are complaining about GoDaddy's dedicated servers, but mostly about their (entry-level) shared plans. You say everything can be solved, this is however not true: - their shared Windows server: Stay away it will very likely not run vBulletin - Their Linux shared servers: Depending on the hosting plan, many standard PHP functions are disabled. vBulletin will not run or it will be limited in it's functionality. |
