Need drinking advice!

Ok so this coming April I turn 21 years young, and like the big loser I am I've waited for this date so I can buy something from the ABC store for the first time without sending someone else in. ;)

As I've never had much time to browse the selection personally I've stuck mainly to bourbon whiskey and vodka over the years. I'm a big fan of Jim Beam and while I don't drink often I do keep a 5th in my desk at all times in case I feel a cold coming on. ;)

So anyway I plan on buying lots of liquor come April 16th...plan on throwing a big house party too. I need to a nice selection of drinks for my company and myself... My company will require hard drinks as the stuff is like water to them.

So I need three things from you guys;

1) A suggestion for an easy mix-drink that I can mix prior to the party. I want to make about 5 gallons of something (I was thinking PJs (everclear + fruit punch)). We drink PJs and Green Monster all the time so I was hoping someone knew a similar drink that I haven't tried before.

2) A suggestion for drinks I can mix at the party to impress the company (and women) ;).

3) Some suggestions for liquor I can serve straight (shots). I'm planning on getting some whiskey and vodka for this purpose but I'd like to have a better variety. :D ;)

kall 03-13-2007 08:42 AM

1) Umm... ooh! VODKA JELLIES! I know, not quite what you wanted to hear, but they're popular in my neck of the woods. Vodka + Jelly + Freezer Trays.

2) I find that things like Quick F**k go down a treat - Midori plus Baileys in a shot glass. Make sure to pour carefully so as to have 2 layers.

The ladies like my Vodka and Cranberry mixers.. or Cosmopolitans if I am feeling especially creative.

Oh.. you just gotta have a Keg. Kegs rock. Beer is your friend.

3) If you can find it, please try '42 Below Vodka'. It's made in NZ, comes in a variety of flavours (try Feijoa, by God it is the best ever, especially mixed with apple juice) and is the best vodka in the world.

4) ;) Three words: Home Brewed Whiskey.

A guy I know makes this stuff, and he has to use a pipette or eyedropper to deliver it to its mixer...coke/juice/whatever. Add 4 drops, drink and count to 6. :D

Brad 03-13-2007 08:53 AM

Thanks Kall, #4 is not a problem...we're fine on shine around these parts. :D

kall 03-13-2007 08:57 AM

Oh.. of course.

*slaps forehead*

Totally forgot about your location. :D

If your ever my way look me up. I'll let you sample some of the local stuff. Usually we buy it by the gallon and jar it with fruit (I like peaches). ;)

Ozster 03-13-2007 10:27 AM

https://www.diffordsguide.com/

that lets you select the stuff you have and it returns the drinks you can make.

1) Sangria and kamikaze.

Sangria => Red wine,fruit,orange juice

Kamikaze =>Vodka + lots of lemon juice with lots of ice

Those are the best :) You won't even notice there is alcohol inside.

Tucker's Death Mix
  • 1/3 Lemon-Lime Gatorade
  • 1/3 Redbull
  • 1/3 Everclear
Rinse, repeat. Goodnight.
-
Or, my special concotion I've yet to name --
  • 1 mug Molson XXX
  • 1 shot Everclear
As with any bomb variety, drop shot into mug. Drink. Profit.

I am going to put a poll on my site to think of a name for this. And for the record... I will be trying this on Friday night. It sounds so bad I just have to!

Here's my drinking advice, aka Smoothie's 5 rules of drinking;

1. Drink as much as possible
2. Drink whenever possible
3. Never drink the cheap shit
4. Never drink and drive
5. It's time to stop when you can't open the bottle

nexialys 03-15-2007 03:14 AM

when i read that title i was like "wtf, he wants to ask the permission to drink ?!"...

i continue to think that... LOL

no, you deserve more than trying to show me who you are... lol

edit: and i know nothing about being 18 (or 21) and trying to find the best drink for a party... i overpassed that period so quickly, i am not even sure i lived it...

KTBleeding 03-15-2007 03:41 AM

1) The only drink that I've ever 'pre-prepared' is jungle juice. I don't recommend it, it's messy and people get way too wasted. Maybe try some Caribou Lou? It's pretty tasty, and it has 151.. ;)

2) Whiskey Sours!!! Hands down, best mix drink, and if you already have Whiskey, it's a win win situation.
  • 1 1/2 oz whiskey
  • 5 oz sweet and sour mix
  • 1 tbsp cherry juice
  • 2 squirts lemon
Mix whiskey, lemon, and cherry juice in an ice-filled cocktail glass, and fill the remainder of the glass with sour mix, use a stir stick to mix.

3) One word. Jagermeister. However, I also enjoy Bora Sambuca, Aftershock, 99 Bananas (recipe for wasted-ville)..

Number one rule is to make sure it's safe for everyone who is driving to be sober. I'm sure that goes without saying though.

nexialys 03-15-2007 03:59 AM

for the pirates/fishermen in you, you can always choose the Clamato-Beer...

ok, this sounds disgusting for the usual drinker, but a solid beer (7%+ alcohol) and a 1/5 of Clamato will keep you alive and without the dryness effect next morning... and you will drink veggies... good for your health... lol

not that i promote Clamato, but hey: http://www.clamato.com/barmain_ing.htm

don't drink and drive... don't spit and fly... don't... do anything stupid!

Marco van Herwaarden 03-15-2007 07:37 AM

If you want to have a short party, go for Tequilla Slammers.

Brad 04-04-2007 07:31 AM

Well after speaking with a friend (whos birthday is three days before mine) we've decided to skip out on drinking in favour of something else. Thanks for the advice though, I'll be using it at some point I'm sure. ;)

Luky 04-04-2007 08:19 AM

Sucks to be an american, rocks to be an aussie! 18 is legal age, but everyone drinks before 15 anyways. :P

Marco van Herwaarden 04-04-2007 09:12 AM

You brought in the dancing girls instead?

bluesoul 04-04-2007 01:46 PM

I heard it involved cheerleaders, clowns, and midgets.

Brad 04-05-2007 08:01 AM

Haha I'll never tell. :D

unenergizer 04-05-2007 05:29 PM

We drink something dubbed "Jesus Juice" its quite similar to your PJ's. Cherrys, oranges, fruit punch, and ever clear. Fun night.

I suggest Yegar Bombs. Yegar Mister and Red bull. 2/3 Yegar and 1/3 red bull. You will be drunk and wide awake.

For women I suggest, Amarillo and a Sweet and sour Mix. Good alcohol for women and a good mix drink all around.

Now I'm only 20, but I have drinking experience. (i believe lol) bad spelling... sry

Zachery 04-05-2007 05:31 PM

Midori (1 part) Sweet and Sour (2 parts) Splash of OJ, its damned tastey.

Jay... 04-08-2007 04:44 PM

You should try Black Aftershock & Redbull.

Disaronno Amaretto is tremendous

Keep a bottle of absynthe hidden until the party heats up!

Ok, it took me a minute to realize what you meant by 'Yegar Mister'.. but just for the record it's J?germeister. :P

lol I was just reading through to make sure no one suggested this...I didn't think anyone would and bam...I see someone suggest 43. This is the best liqueur.

I know this may sound strange but...mix it with milk. Tastes amazing. You can also mix in some 7up.

Your b-day is in 2 days! :) Happy early B-day! Have a good one!
