Go Daddy vs. Westhost?
I currently have Go Daddy and, quite frankly, am at my wits end with them...
I have been eyeballing Westhost.com, they seem to have really good prices and the guy I spoke to was really cool (nice). But I don't want to trade cost for quality. Does anyone have any insight on Westhost? Thanks... |
I have now five websites running by westhost.
They have a really good support ( also running a vbulletin support forum) and a lot of features. You can run your own software of use the pre install software from westhost ( very updated) All the accounts are VPS. I think must better that Go Daddy ;) |
Thanks for the comments. I am switching to Westhost either today or tomorrow. I just got to get my game plan down on the cross-over.

"But I don't want to trade cost for quality."
Do you consider GoDaddy hosting as quality??? |
Marco, I see that you comming from the Netherlands. ( ik dus ook)
Before i switch to westhost i have hosting site by Demon and Dutchwebhosting here I now running for one year sites by westhost and i must say excellent! Mutch better support than in the Netherlands. If you speak about the price it's cheap too ,ofcourse that's pretty:) Best regards ( vriendelijke groet) |
Please forgive me but I'm not knocking westhost, just curious! For there top Personal Value Plan, they give you 130GB Bandwidth for the month, for some reason this doesn't seem like much but running a forum with this amount of bandwidth, how many members/visitors would this handle per month before crapping out?
also! the price seems kind of Low for a VPS $9.95 if you pay infull for 2yrs, $14.95 month by month...... I've seen VPS go for $50.00 and up per month, this usually throws a red flag up telling you to keep away... aberg, what type of control panel do they give you to use with your VPS? |

I just started an account with Westhost, I'll give them a try for a year, right now I own 2 separate shared accounts with vodahost, My jeep forum runs nice and smooth while my 2nd F o r u m runs like it's always under heavy load, never really compland about it buy my renewal runs out in 22 days, I won't be renewing... I'll try to keep an update on how my VPS runs

What is the specific problem everyone is having with Go Daddy? I have been thuroughly pleased with the service I've had with them for over a year now. I get 250 gig bandwidth, 5 gig space, 500 email accounts, 10 MySQL databases, and excellent customer support and all of this is on the $4/monthly economy plan!
|
Do a search. You will find several problems that people have had. It may be working for you now - that's excellent... Personally, I have just heard way too many horror stories to trust it.

I used Westhost in the past when i started my site. I had their top tier VPS plan. Their support was terrible. I had pending tickets that went up to two weeks before getting resolved, sometimes even answered. They kept pushing the ticket up the ladder, finally to one guy who didn't even want to help. Basically told me to leave. My $29.99 per month is nothing to them. They rather have a new customer who doesn't require support.
With that said, if your hosting just a regular HTML site, then your probably fine. Forget about running a forum. They pack their servers. I moved to PowerVPS after Westhost. Their support is top notch. I was with PowerVPS for two years, but just moved to a dedicated because my site was too big for their top VPS plan. 500-600 members on at one time now...so the issues that I had with PowerVPS was because of my site growing very quickly. |
tommyxv, what would you mean by "They pack their servers."
|
They put a lot of accounts on one box.

DO NOT BUY DOT5HOSTING. If you don't believe me just google "dot5hosting" and some of the 1st results will be saying how much it sucks. My site goes down all the time for no reason. I email them and everytime their response is, "it's fine now", cuz by the time they reply it auto fixes itself. Also , some of their SQL servers ran out of memory on the partition and they have no tech support on the weekend so my forums were down all weekend ;-( |

To dagummit, best of luck with Westhost. Maybe they have better support and service now. |

I don't know what your problems where at Westhost but they have help me very good. Also a good support forum where you can get good support from them. Ofcourse if there are bugs or problems with installed software on the server they susspend the account. But before that you get a warning messages and if needed support for the problem. I don't know what normal is in your country but here in the Netherlands it is directly susspend without any warning. I take a look on PowerVPS.com. It's not fair to compair them because there is a big difference in price between this two hosters. The only thing what for me important is is the price in combination with the possibility on the server. They update regular the server software and you can choose if you want to install this. A least you get always a email for activity on the server. As you see i'am very satisfied with Westhost;) |
