LOG:
Updated: 7th March 2007 - Updated to 1.1 - small bug in javascript code, preventing flash movie loading. Package updated with bug fixed.
headinclude template code should be this:
Code:

<script type="text/javascript" src="clientscript/flashobject.js"></script>
About
Bring your forum header to life with this ?vBFlash Header? modification. The vbFlash Header is an alternative header/logo for the default vBulletin style. It uses an easy to configure XML file to setup the header the way you want it to display the images. The package includes 5 example images, which you will need to change for your own website/forum. vBFlash Header supports multiple images, image pause and 9 transition effects. This ?Lite? version is based on a default vBulletin forum, it can be adapted to suit other custom styles quite easily. It is designed to work with fixed and fluid styles, from 800 pixels wide upwards. A dark version will be added shortly.

The flash loader only adds 7k to your page load, so it's light-weight for any forum.

Creating Your Images
Your images should be 600 pixels wide and 150 pixels high and saved in a non-progressive jpeg format. The quality of your images may vary, depending on how you want the overall look. We have created example images in Photoshop and entered the ?Website Name? text on the top layer, this gives the impression that the text is static in most of the effects, even though it is changed upon each image load.
Note: If you change an image and overwrite an example image, make sure you empty your browser cache, should the image fail to change. Browsers will cache flash animations, so this is important.

Configuring the XML file
The enclosed ?images.xml? file controls how the flash file shows the images, hence you can change a few aspects of your header. Make sure all your images are correctly labelled and are reflected within the XML file. The ?Pause? function is the delay which an image stays on view ? the default is set to 6 seconds (value=6000). Transition value can be any number between 1 and 9, if you set this value to ?0? it will randomize the effects. You may add more images by adding more image tag lines, and adding the images to the ?xheader? directory.

Installation
Upload the contents of the ?UPLOAD? folder to your forum root. If you receive a warning about overwriting the ?flashobject.js? file, you can overwrite or skip - this normally happens if you have installed previous modifications released by us (we use the flashobject.js file to correctly embed flash objects into pages - this maximizes browser compatibility).

Header template

Find:
Code:

  fo.addParam("quality", "high");
  fo.addParam("wmode", "transparent");
  fo.write("vbheader");
</script>
<!-- vbFlash Header End -->

End of template edits.

Enjoy your new flash-based header!

Note: Adding this modification to a Portal system outside the forum root.
If you are using a portal with this modification outside the forum root you will need to make one small change to the code in the header template. The line with the "vbflashheader.swf" in will need to have an absolute path. Example: "http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/vbflashheader.swf".

Additional Notes:
This modification is fully supported at http://www.vbulletin.org ? should you require advice or help. Please note, unless you click INSTALL, your question maybe ignored.

If you require a branding free version, simply donate $30 and state the domain where it will be used upon, and an email address where we can send you the package.

<font size="4">FAQ Section</font>

I see this error instead of the flash movie 'Warning!!! To view enable JavaScript and Flash!', what does it mean?
This error may show if you have made a mistake on uploading the flashobject.js file or have not added the template edit to call the flashobject.js. You may not have the latest version of the flash player installed in your browser. Since this modifcation was designed using Flash 8.0 - your player must be version 8.0 or higher. Check these first before posting a question about this error. It is coded to help people debug the modifcation.

The flash movie loads without any images
Check the paths to your image directory, also check you have not mistyped the image directory name in the XML file. The default directory is 'xheader', but you can change this to anything you wish, as long as its reflected in the XML file.

Images still do not load after doing all checks in the above FAQ
Make sure you have not saved your images as progressive jpeg's - this is a quite common mistake.

Not sure if the flash header is on that styleid with the Beta Demo: url ? Is it the same header as in your portal ? Which is looking very nice. :)

Strange, it should be working - I just checked it. It is very similar to the one used on the main page of the site's portal, however a blue alpha was applied to that one.

:confused:

EDIT: Fixed the Demo - forgot to allow unregistered to view other styles... oops!:o

cutoi 03-07-2007 12:30 PM

Installed, I can see demo. Very nice

zincpony 03-07-2007 04:14 PM

i installed it but it keeps telling me to enable java script and flash

Hamma 03-07-2007 04:31 PM

Pretty nice! ;)

I will have to wait for a black version to give it a try.

Lighting90 03-10-2007 01:59 PM

Looks good, and the description of the pro versions sounds just what we are looking for...

Lighting90 03-10-2007 02:08 PM

Quick question, we notice that the headers do not show up on our home page, which is created using Vbadvanced CMPS v2.2.0. It just shows a blank header.

Do we need to reinstall CMPS or is this a bug?

We haven't installed it on our livesite as yet... (still creating images to use...)

No, it's not a bug. If you're using vBa CMPS then the relative urls in the header code will need to be changed to absolute urls, otherwise it will be looking for files in the incorrect directories.

Yeah, a navbar will be added and active links (number will depend on how many you enter in the XML). Should be available very soon hopefully. :)

Thanks, I got it working now...

Have to sort out my images and then put it on my live sites...

Nice, Installed and Working. Thanks

ADDED: Details on how to add this modification so it works 'site-wide' including portals.

Lighting90 03-12-2007 10:51 PM

Went back to the site today, to find that the header is not showing the pictures on the home page, but it does show a blank box with "powered by vBflash Headers"

See attachment.

Have tried also adding the full path to the XML file as well... still no joy...

If anyone else has got it working, let me know... all works fine in the main forum pages....

Most likely I have missed something somewhere... been a novice... :)

syrus.xl 03-12-2007 11:09 PM

It requires the full path to the flash file to work inside a portal. I did add the instructions how to do this earlier.

But here's what you'll need to do.

Find the following line in javascript call within the header template:
Code:

  var fo = new FlashObject("vbflashheader.swf", "vbheader", "800", "150", "8,0,0,0", "#e1e1e2");
You'll see "vbflashheader.swf" - you will need to prepend this file with the full url to the flash file, for example:
"http://www.domain.com/forums/vbflashheader.swf"

This ensures the code looks in the correct directory for the flash file. The XML file should be automatically picking up the images if you haven't changed the xheader folder name.

Hope that helps! :)

That is what I have done, and the result is as you see it. The strange thing is, it worked when I first did it, and then when I went back the following day it was no longer loading the images. Yet the work and load okay on the forum pages...

I will have a check of all the other settings, just in case I change something else by mistake... (happens a lot to me... :D hence the test forum... )

Will let you know if I find anything...

Depending on which browser you use and how its configured, you may need to empty your cached files. Any changes may not be seen at first, if the browser is pulling the flash header from the cache instead of the server.

I use Firefox, and set to on close delete cached files.

Lighting90 03-19-2007 08:27 PM

Well, I have worked out what is happening, as it also happens to some links on the same page(but not all of them,) it adds in my site address twice for some things.

So I suspect it is adding in the site address in double for the images... I will find the problem eventually...:)

Sounds like you may have a replacement variable set wrong. It could be style, code or template related though. Strange why it happens on this modification though, since it doesn't use any variables as such.

:)

I just checked the .zip file and it's working fine using Compressed Folders in Windows XP.

Perhaps you should try a program like WinZip - for unzipping the file contents, I can't understand why you would receive an EOF error. :confused:

dune3000 04-24-2007 05:25 PM

I no idea why I have this error I used winrar, winzip , and vista unzip
trying to download few times to different folder still have
Error:
Cannot open this file it does not appear to be invalid archive
If you downloaded this file try downloading this file again

Thank you,

PS : is there any-alternative location for downloading?

syrus.xl 04-24-2007 05:32 PM

I have this uploaded to a few sites, but they require several postings before you can download it. If you PM me your a valid email address I'll send it to you, if you still can't get it open then I'll repack it for you.

ltjman22 04-26-2007 08:14 PM

I have redone the urls in the templates to match where the files are located! Yet, the logo still does not work for vbcmps? Any ideas? Thanks

dune3000 04-27-2007 01:20 AM

all working fin now thx

syrus.xl 06-03-2007 09:25 PM

Supported only on www.digitalport.co.uk - Due to a lot of custom work being done. Any updates will be added here, but not supported.

Hi,
I can't find the header code.
Header template

I am not using the default style. Could I send you my header and if you have time, see where I can add the code? Thanks
