Is There A Manual For The IbProArcade?

I have a lot of questions and having an online manual would save time in looking for/asking questions...

Feckie (Roger) 02-08-2007 06:32 AM

Welcome to the online Manual....................:D

Shazz 02-08-2007 07:43 AM

You could ask all your questions in this forum..

AuroraStorm 02-08-2007 09:06 AM

Feckie... :D You were very helpful, btw...

After watching several of my threads and the threads of others asking about functionality sink without responses, I had hoped there'd be an online manual or at least an FAQ on arcade functions...

*sigh* oh well...I'll just figure things out as I go along...

MrZeropage 02-11-2007 07:42 PM

feel free to ask :)

AuroraStorm 02-18-2007 05:15 PM

Okay here's a question:

Lost my site to the vbPlaza failure...yeah sucks like a hoover and stuff...got it back up and running...anyhoo, can I run the ibProArcade without it? I've never actually DONE that before without it...

MrZeropage 02-18-2007 08:05 PM

Yes, ibProArcade is a normal vBulletin-Modification, it just is compatible to vbPlaza, but does not need it :)

xxxsaint 02-19-2007 12:50 AM

can someone point me to the thread where it teaches you how to convert your own .swf games to use with this arcade please ? I've searched the world over and never found it :(

AuroraStorm 02-19-2007 12:06 PM

Cool...that gives us something to do...thanks!

Can you set up a tournament with no players? When I set one up it automatically adds me - i just want to set them up for members of the board but don't necessarily want to include myself in the actual tournaments.

deepak7 02-22-2007 03:31 PM

In your root forum in the arcade section, you have two sections: .tar and .zip. Any file that is a tar goes in the tar file and the zip files to into the zip file. You can just drag them in and they should start uploading...

Ok, first of all, what ftp program are you using? I guess depending on what you are using, you may have to switch between transfer modes, so it could have trouble uploading zip files. That sounds unlikely, unless you were using your web host's file manager, but either way, get Filezilla or SmartFTP (IMO Smart looks better, but Filezilla is user friendlier.) Both of these switch modes automatically depending on the file type.

Now, connect to your site via ftp, navigate to your arcade folder, ex. /forums/arcade/. .zip files are v3Arcade games, and should be placed in the zip folder. .tar files are IBPA games, and should be placed in the tar folder. Goto add games in the arcade menu of your control panel and scroll down to the tar and zip sections. Click install by the game to install it.

I just wanted to get that out for anyone else who needs help, even though PE probably doesn't need it anymore. ;)

As far as converting zip to tar, I don't know. I thought not a first, but I could be wrong, though it may require changing the v3 info file into a IBPA one. I will try when my site is back up, but I am guessing the answer will be no, without actually editing the swf directly.

Edit: Nope, it doesn't work.

No way to make compatible without editing the game file (.swf) directly.

I was trying to figure out what your zip problem is because you should get it figured out, but you can still add games manually and as long as they are converted for IBPA/v3 the scores will be integrated with IBPA. So here is how you do that.

Unzip the file. Now for IBPA, you should have at least a .swf (game) file, two images and a .php (game info) file. For v3 you should at least have the same but with a .txt (game info) file instead of the php file. At the most, there may also be other swf files or another folder. Now upload everything but the txt/php file and the images to your /forums/arcade/ folder. Then upload the images to your /forums/arcade/images/ folder.

Next, in your vB admin control panel, expand the arcade menu and select 'Add Game'. This opens the arcade.php page. At the top you will see two boxes for adding games manually titled "Required Info" and "Optional Info". Open the game's info file (txt/php) on your PC with notepad, wordpad or whatever.

The first field, Game Name, is the title of the game as it will appear in your arcade. In a v3 txt info file, it is listed as 'Title', and in an IBPA php info file it is listed as 'gtitle'. So for a game called Zombie Lunch, you would enter:
Game Name
Code:

Zombie Lunch
Set Game on/off
Code:

yes
Highscore type
Depends on the game, but most likely:
Code:

High
In category
(Your preference)
Code:

Default
GNAME
This is the game file title, for v3 and ibProArcade it is listed under 'gname'.
Code:

zombielunch
Decimal Points?
The game file will mention if you have to set decimal points. Leave it at 0 if it isn't mentioned. For my fictional game, Zombie Lunch, the v3 game file says "set decimal points to 1".
Code:

1
Game Background Color
This is the color of the background in the flash window, 000 (black) by default.
Code:

000
Game Width
Game Height

This is the size of the vB window the game will be loaded into, based on the size of the game. In v3 txt file it is listed under 'size'. The first number is the width and the second is the height. In IBPA php file it is listed under 'gwidth' and 'gheight'. Zombie Lunch is width 700 by height 550:
Game Width
Code:

700
Game Height
Code:

550
The Optional Info box is up to you. In this case, I usually play it locally and fill in the fields for manual upload or just leave it blank. The instrucitons are usually listed in the game itself, and sometimes listed in the game info file for IBPA under 'gkeys'. Or you can just install without it, play it and rewrite the optional info during reinstall.

Good luck. Let me know if you have any problems. :)

EDIT: Btw, I think I figured out why they aren't working. It is likely that the zip files you have are not actually converted for ibProArcade/v3. The game file itself has to actually be created/edited so the scores function in IBPA/v3. You can still use these games by following the manual install, but the scores will not function. I can tell you if it is converted if you copy and paste the txt file with the game into a post. To get games that work, follow the info I sent to you in a PM earlier. ;)

I will be AFK, so I hope you get it manually installed.

Sorry Princeedward...see why I originally asked for a manual? :D

Tminus explained it fabulously... :)

Thank you! ;)

Edit: I am placing my vote that this thread should be renamed "ibProArcade Manual" and stickied. I would be happy to write or rewrite any info if Aurora Storm will edit her first post with any info we come up with. Likewise it would be sweet if Mr.ZeroPage would float us any existing documentation. ;)
