New Registrant Analyzer

Description:
At the forum I maintain these are the general measures taken to determine if a new registrant is a spammer:
- google username see if it has been used elsewhere and if it has been banned, if there are a lot of results, try searching using: $username vbulletin, or, $username phpbb, or $username forum
- go to domain of email address if unfamiliar
- google first part of email address
- google second part of email address if unfamiliar
- check IP on DNS Stuff

So, to make it easier for the other admins to check this information I wrote this which basically has quick links to get this information. Refer to the screenshot for more details.

In the contained zip file, import the product via 'Manage Products' and upload the rest of the file to their appropiate locations

After installing, you'd need to refresh the admincp/modcp area with your browser then look under 'Users' in the admincp, otherwise look under 'New Registrant Info' if in the modcp

changelog
0.1 - initial release
0.2 - make it work for both mods and admins (shows in admincp and modcp)
0.3 - use dynamic modcp/admincp variables, move 'New Registrant Info' under Users menu

NOTE: remember to look under Users when browsing in the admincp

HOLY CRAP! :wow:

TY!!

JamieLee2k 01-15-2007 12:49 AM

This would be a great mod for me if something else is added, Gamertag (xbox Live) would it be possible to put that in?

um.. I don't quite know what you're talking about.. ? you want it to show custom fields the user entered in their profile? (wouldn't be too difficult to implement if that is the case)

JamieLee2k 01-15-2007 01:26 AM

For example, If you click this link http://live.xbox.com/en-GB/profile/p...Tag=JamieLee2k is shows my gamercard

Now when someone registers I have a required field that you have to put in and it's called Gamertag

There are only a few things I need it to check and all the others are just a bonus.
Username:
Email Address to see if it's valid:
Gamertag:
IP Address:

malc1959 01-15-2007 01:46 AM

nice one, installed thanks

Wow...I can't believe my eyes. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

This is what I have searched for...asked for (back in August) ...and finally had gotten to the point that I bought the PHP Bible and combined it with PHP Essential Training over at Lynda.com in the hopes of making what you just created for my first mod. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

Well, at least it wasn't in vain as that made me get off my butt and start learning PHP in earnest. http://www.ronaldreagan.com/forums/i...ilies/doh!.gif

If possible...I have one small favor to ask. :)

This was my humble request back in August... http://www.ronaldreagan.com/forums/i..._it_around.gif

Registration IP and E-mail Available to Admin/Mods in User Profile?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi there.

I am a recent convert from UBB to vBulletin.

The change has been completely positive.

Maybe there is a way to set this up in the AdminCP, or maybe there already is a hack for this...but I haven't been able to find either.

On UBB when someone registered it would list them in "Newest Members".

It would also allow our staff to click on that profile and it had the registration IP and E-mail for the staff to view and look up if they were suspicious or felt it was necessary.

I know I can log into the AdminCP and gain that info, but I was looking for a quicker and easier way for my staff and myself to do this.

What I would like our staff (mods & admins) to be able to do is to be able to click on the newest (actually any) member profile (or it could even be done in the postbit), and be able to see the E-mail they used to register along with their IP (even if they haven't posted).

Presently our Mods run IPs through either Geobytes and/or DNSstuff to find the users location.

http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm

http://www.dnsstuff.com

It would be nice to have the IP and E-mail, but even better if the location could be included, saving time by having it already looked up.

The only people that I would want to be able to see this information would be the staff (Mods & Admins).

If this hack (or something close to it) already exists, I would be grateful if you could point me too it, as I have looked and looked and haven't been able to find anything reasonably close.

I know several owners of UBB that have switched over vBulletin, and almost all of them miss being able to get that info from the user's profile right after they register. So I know that there already is an audience for this script.

Thanks in advance. :)

Would it be possible to have an option that would display your information in a user's profile for Admins and/or Mods only?

This would allow them (Mods & Admins) to see the information (wouldn't even have to all of it...maybe just the IP and E-mail address) quickly without having to log into the ModCP or AdminCP? http://www.ronaldreagan.com/forums/i...puter_nerd.gif

The reason being is that we use additional .htaccess & .htpasswd files in the ModCP and AdminCP that are different than their regular UserID & Password login. The two separate logins help protect those areas in case someone was able to get (or guess) a Mod or Admin password. The downside of using two separate logins is that it is a hassle to log into the CPs unless really necessary. :(

It would be awesome if it could be set up to where the Admin could choose or specify what info Moderators could view by simply clicking on the users profile.

What I mean is the Admin could choose whether a Moderator could see all of the info you are providing currently in the CP in a users profile, or maybe have the option for Mods not to see it (or parts) at all, and it would be just like you have it set up now. :)

Anyway, with or without a profile option Fin clicks "install" and MOTM for fci (especially since I have been looking months for this ;) ).

Thanks fci! :D

Edited:

Hmmmm...I assume since the January's MOTM is already in progress, that new recommendations will be put forth the first of the next month? http://www.ronaldreagan.com/forums/i...s/confused.gif

Terminatoronly 01-15-2007 07:39 AM

Hornstar 01-15-2007 12:02 PM

looks like a nice way to keep an easy eye on new members, however with over 200 a day, this may not be for me lol

UbiqPhoton 01-15-2007 10:07 PM

Thankyou for this - its just what I need, and indeed my mods as well.

One thing I am curious about is why it shows up under the vb options tab in the admin control panel. The other much more annoying thing is it doesnt work very well for those of us with renamed admincp and modcp directories - is there any chance this could be changed to use the variables rather than hard coding? If not, could you point me in the direction of what I have to change.

Otherwise, great hack. :)

I wrote a fix before reading your post to move it under the "Users" menu but I'll wait to release that until I add in your other suggestion.

**Never mind**

Props for this! :D

UbiqPhoton 01-17-2007 09:05 AM

*edit* you already changed this - good job! Ok, one more suggestion then...

I get a lot of bots signing up, and my usual trick is to ban the email address, and then delete them (otherwise there would be thousands by now - over christmas they literally appeared like 30 a day)

Would it be possible (and this might only be in the admin version, I dont know) to have either a delete user button, or move to group, for easy mass pruning later?

Cheers :)

Sam1985 02-10-2007 11:10 PM

I have a mailing program(mail blaster) that sends emails and tracks it.
Can I export a CSV file of users and their emails so i can send them newsletter and info using my system that accepts CSV imports?

--New Registrant Info

It perfectly imported to ModCP.:D

Thanks.

The Admin must have "canedituser" permissions in the Admin user permissions control area.

if you uploaded the files to the proper place, you can find the link under the users category in the adminCP nav panel.

installed and works great on vB 3.6.4 & 3.6.5

theFAILURE 03-22-2007 05:07 AM

Tip top stuff bro, flawless.

Can't wait for it's additions :D
