Looks very interesting!

I saw on your support site that members profiles are used but where are the actual articles stored, in a vBulletin forum or it's own table? If in it's own table then can the vB search functions be hooked into to also search the new table?

wizardan 01-11-2007 01:47 PM

Too promising to not investigate.
Clicks install.

No, I'm using my own table (vbarticles_articles). I'm always trying to avoid dealing with vb database to keep my modules compatible with upcoming and previous versions.

TeddyKGB 01-11-2007 02:30 PM

Perhaps a silly question but are the source of the "articles" posts made, articles written by your users, articles submitted but written by other sites or a newsfeed (RSS)?

MaryTheG(r)eek 01-11-2007 02:33 PM

No..no... All articles are posted by the site members.

NFLfbJunkie 01-11-2007 02:35 PM

Any screenshots of the article layout?

Veer 01-11-2007 02:40 PM

Very Nice Work Dear Maria :) Clicks *Install* and Nominated for MOTM :)

Can we change "vbarticles.php" to "articles.php" ? also "vbarticles" directory name to "articles"

Snake 01-11-2007 02:56 PM

Wow thank you very much! Finally, I have been waiting for this. :)

vietfancy 01-11-2007 03:02 PM

revered!

projectego 01-11-2007 03:33 PM

Awesome, thank you!

ChrisSy 01-11-2007 03:51 PM

Looks very promising, do you have a link to a working demo? I checked your site but can't seem to find one :)

All I can say is that I'm afraid of this hack.... I'm afraid that it will make me feel really stupid I paid for GARS.

I'm going to have to tinker with this :)

Wait... will this be free or can we just pay to have the copyright removed?

NFLfbJunkie 01-11-2007 04:11 PM

I have installed; great MOD. A couple of things however. I created a test article in the category "lieterature". The 'article by category' listing has a (1) next to literature, but when I click on this category, I get "No Articles found in this Category". I am able to access the test article from the 'Newest Author' area. Also, the category images are not showing up. I have uploaded everything and set the permissions, but I get the dreadful RED X grahic.

Figured out the reason why article not showing. Must first approve article. Still unsure about the graphics not showing.

Also figured out the image problem. Went to ACP and changed in category manager "vbarticles/images/cat2.gif" to "cat2.gif"

projectego 01-11-2007 04:39 PM

Edit: nevermind, I managed to fix it.

obmob 01-11-2007 04:41 PM

Oh, interesting... i'll try it, thanks.

NFLfbJunkie 01-11-2007 05:08 PM

When clicking on the "Read Reviews" link all that shows is a blank page.

apokphp 01-11-2007 05:51 PM

Any plans on having this integrate with vbadvanced (perhaps module displaying latest X)?

I'm predicting that this will be a contender for Mod of the Month. ;)

Mr_Snob 01-11-2007 05:57 PM

why is this light version can you share with us the full version???

You can buy the full version for $24 from her site.

Brandon Sheley 01-11-2007 06:04 PM

I see her site is align left ??
looks silly and up professional to me, I would center it all ;)

apokphp 01-11-2007 06:39 PM

A couple of bugs, but perhaps it is just because I have 3.6.2 running?

1) When you have 10+ categories, and you order said categories, it doesn't know that 10 is greater than 9. If you want that 10th category and beyond, you have to use 91, 92, 93+ to numerically "order" the category display.

2) Carriage returns do not work in the articles. You can have 20 paragraphs, yet the entire article will have just 1 running paragraph with no formatting. I'm sure this is just a bug or an issue with having 3.6.2 vb version, but it is a deal breaker unfortunately.

I'm hoping there's a solution to problem #2 as this is a very promising hack.

NFLfbJunkie 01-11-2007 06:45 PM

Is the a way to put pictures in the body of the articles, as well as having the text wrap around the picture, and aligning the picture to the left, center and right?

NFLfbJunkie 01-11-2007 06:47 PM

Apokphp, I have 3.64 and I am not having the paragraph problem you mentioned.

apokphp 01-11-2007 06:56 PM

That's weird that you aren't Junkie. Her demo site is run on 3.6.4, and it looks like it IS having the same problem.

http://www.madebymary.com/forums/vba...le&articleid=7

NFLfbJunkie 01-11-2007 07:01 PM

Maybe whoever posted that artcile didn't format with paragraphing. When I did an article on my site, after a paragraph I hit enter, and it started a new paragraph.

apokphp 01-11-2007 07:23 PM

I just upgraded to 3.6.4, and I'm having the same problem...no paragraph formatting. I even uninstalled vbarticles, then reinstalled it after upgrading to 3.6.4, still, the paragraphs not formatting bug exists.

COBRAws 01-11-2007 07:24 PM

wahts the difference between the paid version?

I use GARS aswell, and I dont believe this is better or worse, its another great script for converting your forum into a great website. I will use both when I install this one.

This is what the lite version is missing:

* No Top Authors
* No Editor Choices
* Lite uploads only images while Commercial uploads and play inline audio and video
* No Search

trancetopia 01-11-2007 08:38 PM

This is works great and looks great - thank you so much.

Yep, sorry, i missed that part on the main description.

Thanks

DJ XtAzY 01-11-2007 09:05 PM

wow nice hack. Although i use GARS. I might give this a try as well. The thing i like about GARS is that threads and posts are in strictly in vb, so if i uninstall GARS, the posts and threads are still there. Since this hack uses it's own table i dunno if post and threads are integrated into vb's tables. I'm afraid if i uninstall this hack, all articles, threads and posts are gone.

Anyways, are there anyway to move existing articles, threads, and posts into vbArticles?

Sorry but no. As I wrote many times I'm using my own style in coding modules, to keep them compatible with any newest or previous versions of vB. That's why my modules are using with versions 3.5+ and 3.6+ without even a single code change.
From the other side if you uninstall the module, what you want to do with the data?

MaryTheG(r)eek 01-12-2007 06:01 AM

I've updated the zip file to correct a bug with broken links in categoris. For those who've already installed it, just edit categories from your admincp, changing the photo's path from:
vbarticles/images/cat1.gif to cat1.gif only.

Thanks
Maria

I'm always developing modules (blocks) for vbAdvanced, but sorry, these are paid modules. Cheaps, but paid.
