vBulletin.org Update: Summary and Details

Big News

2007 is a new beginning for vbulletin.org.
To start with, we are implementing the first of many new features.

Our Goals:
  • To educate our members.
  • To give back to the community
  • To support the entire member base - new and old.
  • To create a user-friendly environment.
  • To provide user customization.
  • To create a system in which we can upgrade/extend easily.
New Style

The first thing you probably have noticed is the new style. The unique thing about this style is its flexibility.
  • Please go to your profile options page and you will find an array of options for the style:
    1. Choose your Design: You can choose a different design ... currently, it's only a color change but new designs will be available soon.
    2. Default Style Width: Not a fan of of the fixed width? Well change this option to switch the style's width to a fluid layout.
    3. Thread Listing Color Status: This option allows you to color code threadbits based on specific status of the thread: Posted, Popular, Closed, etc...etc...
Information PageForums

Forum outline has been completely revamped. You will find some forums have been removed while others have been merged. We have segregated the forums in the following format:
  1. Discussions - can be found in the "Forums" section.
  2. Articles - can be found in the "Articles" section.
  3. Modifications - can be found in the "Mods" section.
  4. Styles - all styles/graphics can be found in the "Styles" section.
Revamped Modifications Area

A completely new look with the same goal in mind.
  1. A user-friendly interface.
  2. AJAX driven "Mark as Installed" and "Nominate for MOTM" options.
  3. A visible rating system.
  4. Promotes supporting Developers - new Paypal Donate option.
Paypal Donate Options

We have implemented a system in which members can donate to their favorite coder. It's a simple system but we hope it will encourage donations.
Developers can enter their paypal information via the Edit Paypal Options:
  1. Choose a default Currency
  2. Enter Paypal Email
  3. Enter default donation amount
  4. For Paypal Premier and Business Account holders, the option to use a custom Payment Page.
Townhall Forums

We are implementing a new Townhall Forums system. The new system is per forum and will provide us with additional "controls".

Love the new features
On the Paypal Donate Options
Where do members see your paypal part?

Guest190829 01-07-2007 10:24 PM

In the modification thread, there is an option to "Support Developer" under the Developer Category.

Dan 01-07-2007 10:25 PM

On the modifaction pages such as here on the right side https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=117934 under the "The Developer" section

derekivey 01-07-2007 10:33 PM

Looking good :)

smacklan 01-07-2007 10:35 PM

yes, things do look good :) What about a "donate to your favorite designer"? ;)

Bounce 01-07-2007 10:36 PM

Will viewing with postbit_legacy be available at all in the future?

Edit : found it

Default Postbit
If you prefer the old-style postbit, using two vertical columns rather than the new horizontal layout, you can switch back by checking "Yes" below.
Yes, I prefer old-style postbit.

Dan 01-07-2007 10:37 PM

Already is, check your options in the usercp.

Princeton 01-07-2007 10:37 PM

I'll have that up by the end of this week.

thanks for the reminder

da420 01-07-2007 10:37 PM

It already is available in your options.

You are using some great stuff under the user options.

Could you post what mods are being used to get the cool features you're using?

The option to switch between legacy and new postbit is pretty cool :)

Alot of this is custom, probablly won't release it.
ex: the install hack

TCattitude 01-07-2007 11:01 PM

I think I like it

Smoothie 01-07-2007 11:48 PM

Postbit legacy looks kinda plain jane vanilla......In other words, boring.....Rest of the joint, besides some of the buttons/icons, looking good.

Kirk Y 01-08-2007 12:14 AM

I just noticed the "Member of the Month" forum, interesting idea -- but where are the guidelines mentioned in it's description?

ZeroX Prodigy 01-08-2007 12:16 AM

I love this all, though not a huge fan of the style. Very nice work on you all to this theme, and I hope it proves a large success!

SpanishHarlem 01-08-2007 12:17 AM

wow. Thought I was in the wrong place at first. Great job.

ubblite 01-08-2007 12:43 AM

Great job with the design, Princeton.

That would definitely help vB.org to flourish! Good idea and I hope that it's extended to a something like SitePoint's reward system, not only Member of the Month.

iahead 01-08-2007 03:14 AM

The old skin was too good
i miss it

Zoints 01-08-2007 03:30 AM

Well done folks :)

Ohiosweetheart 01-08-2007 03:37 AM

I am LOVIN' this whole setup!! Excellent!!

the link to the smilies page in the posting rules on the post editor.... is that custom or a hack?

EDIT: n/m I figured it out. But using a fieldset makes it look nicer ;)

DJ XtAzY 01-08-2007 06:08 AM

omg i love how the navbar new looks rather than a regular ugly "box" present in vb's default skin and all other commercial skins. They should have this in vb default future skin.

joeychgo 01-08-2007 06:13 AM

Great Job Guys - Keep up the great work!!

jj 01-08-2007 06:24 AM

Great! I love it :) Greeeeeeeeeeeen ^^

JamieLee2k 01-08-2007 09:33 AM

I can't say I hate it but the old style is better, haven't had a chance to look about yet

Australian Gate 01-08-2007 10:25 AM

wow

thats cool
really nice

Greek Wizard 01-08-2007 10:41 AM

I like the new style, except for one point.

I used to like the idea/option of seeing the last x mods released in each section. (The box on the right you could scroll down)

Now I do not see that anywhere, and that is a little disturbing, because new mods will quickly be buried by people replying to older mods.

Unless I am missing something

The list is not affected by replies, it's new releases (i.e. new threads).

Bellinis 01-08-2007 10:57 AM

Love the new look and features!! Well done guys :)

I like the banner on the right side, could someone please tell me how to do that? ;)

zappsan 01-08-2007 11:22 AM

Wow, I just love the new style and options :)
Awesome job, people!

rogersnm 01-08-2007 11:49 AM

It's all good apart from one thing, you took the base link which goes back to the forum root out of the navbar, in just 5 mins of use I found it annoying...

Mr Pink 01-08-2007 11:50 AM

Really nice site redesign! :)

realraptor 01-08-2007 01:33 PM

is there a link to the mod that enables "Thread Listing Color Status?"

Help me out here Paul.

I don't see a new threads option anywhere except the portal.

My old link: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showmods.php?vbversion=36 does not work anymore.
