Nickpages / advanced profiles

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all!

I'm looking for advanced profiles. I've tried zoints and myspace things but they ain't what I want :(

Some of you might know that there is (or was) a hack for phpBB called NICKPAGES what comes really close to what I need but it seems there's no equivalent for vB.

One day I found ortskontrollfahrt.de - a german community which has the perfect profile hack for vB. It has features like userdata, blog, friends/buddies, guestbook, gallery and fav. pictures. Especially the layout/design is what I like!

I didn't hesitate and contacted them but they told me they would never ever release their hack :(

I attached a screenshot for you! The phpBB hack "Nickpages" looks quite the same.

What you can see on the screenshot is pretty much what I'm looking for! I hope you can help me!

Thx

Hm, I can't believe that nobody wants or needs such nickpages for their communities :(

Mr_Snob 01-06-2007 08:38 PM

ich kann das versuchen zu machen mein freund ich gib dir mein addy h4s4nn@hotmail.de melde dich

ArchieMB 01-08-2007 10:39 AM

:( I see there's nobody out there who wants that kind of user profiles :(
At least, do you know more hacks like zoints? I don't need all the features of zoints with connected communities etc, I just want my nickpages :(

erinys 01-08-2007 12:55 PM

i want this aswell, very badly also, even requested it a couple of times

mr_snob, you say you can create this, do you want to give it a try?

ArchieMB 01-08-2007 01:19 PM

the standard profile sucks and myspace or zoints is too much.

@erinys: what do you think about the solution shown on the screenshot?

Stangsta 01-08-2007 02:03 PM

This is pretty easy to accomplish, just a little template modification, some javascript, and some time. I cant read the screenshot because its well....German, but I get the idea. Just seems to be a different layout more than anything, unless I am missing something.

I would do it, but I'm rather a photoshop guy than a coder :(

It would be great to adopt the layout 1:1

Get with me via PM if you are interested and send me a link to that site, I'll see if I can duplicate it and recreate it for you.

erinys 01-10-2007 07:25 AM

Archie: that site looks good, whats the url?

its has the options that im looking for, a blogsystem for the users in the profile, a bit enhanced profile, but not too much, and a basic gallery / comment system

ArchieMB 01-10-2007 08:51 AM

it's http://www.ortskontrollfahrt.de/ - but you have to register to be able to see the profiles!

Here are the features:

Userdaten tab (profile):
• userpicture (with a link for "add to buddy list" below)
• userdata (name, age, gender, status,...)
• contact (icq, msn,...)
• user's community status (reg. date, forum posts,...)
• "favorites" box (fav. food, music etc.)

blog tab

Freunde tab (buddies)

G?stebuch tab (guestbook)

Galerie tab (gallery):
• user's uploaded pics with a one-line description

Lieblingsfotos (favorite pictures):
• users can add pics from the community gallery (party pics)
• it automatically adds the gallery name + picture ID below the image

I like the multi-page idea for the profiles - nice and clean rather than one long possibly messy looking page.

ragtek 01-13-2007 08:22 AM

you could send the admin a message http://www.ortskontrollfahrt.de/sendmessage.php

When they've spent a lot of time and effort getting their site to look the way it does I doubt they're going to let people know how they've done something or what code they used to implement a feature. I think a 'how did they do that' forum on vbulletin.org could be really useful to board owners.

ArchieMB 01-13-2007 10:30 AM

I asked them @ ortskontrollfahrt twice but all I got was the same answer: "We won't publish our hacks or codes"

ArchieMB 01-15-2007 08:47 PM

my team found a coder who might be able to create a hack like this! I'll keep you informed!

ragtek 01-16-2007 08:26 AM

yea
thx very much

jerx 01-16-2007 09:11 AM

May I ask why you guys don' t want to use Zoints?

I did not want to use Zoints in the beginning as it was a centralized version, but in November they published a local version. Now I am thinking about using it, but there are still some issues I do not like (global user search, powered by zoints). Are these the same reasons which keeps you from using it or are there more reasons not to use it?

ArchieMB 01-16-2007 11:16 AM

I want my community to be independent and not connected to other communities and I don't like the "look & feel" of zoints.

This is exactly how I feel. I don't want/need overkill. I just want something that is clean and somewhat simple, yet, has the ability to give members more options than the standard profiles. The main thing I have been looking for has been a simple image gallery for member profiles. But everything I've run across has either been crap or a whole lot more than I need to add.

StarBuG 01-17-2007 07:33 AM

I would be interested too in this modification

So many people want this - I can't believe that no-one has come up with a mod for this... something to allow more than one photo in a user's profile.

ArchieMB 01-17-2007 10:58 AM

true! I think the solution they have @ ortskontrollfahrt.de is simply perfect. We could start a please-release-your-hack-petition :D

StarBuG 01-21-2007 02:51 PM

Check this hack: http://www.visionscripts.com/?page=p...&vsproductid=8

It is payed but might be what you are looking for.

ArchieMB 01-22-2007 12:23 PM

Thanks, but that's not what I need, it still has this ugly vb profile look

erinys 01-24-2007 12:50 PM

maybe an easy url-rewrite option with it would rock

like /forumdomain/username

im keeping my eye out on this one!

Mr_Snob 01-24-2007 12:55 PM

im working one look a like this system
i have been user guestbooks allready finish :)

Not possible as it is. Assume you've got vB installed at /forums
- using a URL Rewrite to have the profile show in a different directory like domain.com/ will show the data pulled from the database buy not photos, avatars and other bits because those are being called from domain.com/ (where they don't exist) instead of domain.com/forums (where they do exist).

Maybe if you rewrote all of the templates?

ArchieMB 01-24-2007 05:05 PM

What I really can't understand is why this nickpage hack exists for phpbb but not for our ultimtate professional board software vbulletin -_-

I guess only 1% of all vb users are dissatisfied with the look & feel of this "ugly" profile layout :(

ragtek 01-24-2007 05:16 PM

there are different hacks available
the problem is that for everybody a nickpage stands for something different so nobody is happy

i have on my profile a gallery and a guestbook

erinys 01-26-2007 11:31 AM

bumpy :)

Andy R 01-26-2007 10:50 PM

I definitely think enhanced profile pages would be a huge improvement to vBulletin. I run 10+ substantial forums and don't want to link into the Zoints network. Some of the functionality is innovative and highly functional but some of it is over kill for our needs.

It would be wonderful to see vBulletin listen to it's customers (and the internet market) and develop a native interactive profile system for our members. This is something that could bring a tremendous amount of value to vBullet and be another reason for all those other board owners to convert to vB.

erinys 02-01-2007 07:37 AM

I agree, at least a way for the users to personalize their profile more with a WYSIWYG edit, upload images, and a basic comment/friends options.

Phpbb has such nice options for these things :(

Spank 02-02-2007 11:13 PM

I would love to have a hack like this for my board. I hope it does get created.

AKapadia 02-04-2007 04:30 AM

I would Install on my Board too i have been waiting for something like this from long time..

erinys 02-08-2007 07:36 AM

bump! anyone allready taking a look at this?

aceofspades 02-08-2007 03:54 PM

I want this, dont want zoints because its overkill and i dont want to be linked up with all their crap, myspace re-write isnt bad, but something like IPB now has would rock.

Andy R 02-08-2007 07:42 PM

turning the profile page into content would be a great branch for vBulletin to officially develop. there are so many option that could be made here and just another way for vBulletin to remain the leader in commercial forum software (which now seems to include some social aspects).

Come on, please... pretty please with sugar on top!!!
