Webforumz :: Better Adsense in Archives
 
This is the first hack I am releasing on this site, and who knows maybe lots more to come.

What this hack does

It places adsense in the archives into the very best positions for revenue performance.

Instructions

Easy peasy....

1. Import the product
2. Go into Plugin Manager and edit the 3 plugins - line 1 of each allows you to set your google pub-id
3. Thats it, you're done.

No offence to Amy, but I think the placements on this hack are much better.

Erm, i wonder. Is there like a hack that, if a user posts a new thread, directly after , a small post will be made by sponsers?

Installs. Ok, I have a few things to say:
  1. LMAO @ the guy reserving 3 seconds after. WTF
  2. I made one adjustment to the (archive thread page), I made the background the same gray color of #f9f9f9
  3. Question: How can I add a THIRD ad code?

Where did you want to add the third ad?

I deliberately limited this to 2 ads... adding more ads lowers your CPC dramatically.

It stands to reason in almost anyones mind, that the more ads you show, the less chance they will click on a high paying ad.

Not to mension, my site used to run on a free host. The adds dramaticly slows down site speed so id say one add at the most.

The time for the advert to display is governed by the client (the browser) and not your server.

Not to get off topic, and this seems like a great mod, but doesn't this site have signature limits? It's very distracting to read posts when a user has this big-ass set of images as a signature.

So this mod basically puts 2 ads in the archive and you can set the size ad to display?

if you edit the plugins, you could change the size of the ad if you wanted to, however I have defaulted them to ads that blend with the content for maximum click-throughs.

This hack is not meant to offer full flexibility. It is geared for those wanting maximum revenue from their archives. This format is tried and tested on my own forums.

Installed. One slight cosmetic problem I see is in forum view. Between 5 and 6 the ad is placed, but number 6 is blank, or is 6 the ad?

6 is the ad....

There was no way to insert the ad at that position without making it an <li> element like the rest.

Not true all the time. I have a site that gets targeted with CPM ads. These either show an image or just one text ad that takes up the whole ad block. So the best way to maximize revenue in my case is to have the maximum amount of ads. That way, when G is showing the targeted banners, there are enough ad bocks left over to show contextual too.

In a case like mine, not having the max amount of ads would cost you about 30% in revenue.

The bottom line's the bottom line ;)

bugs:
Ads are not displayed on archive when viewing a category (without any threads) which has several sub-forums.

6th thread on archive is not visible not sure why ?

There are many validation errors as well.
1 Error on Index Page

53 Errors on forum view

Your forums archive threads are validating fine, but throws error on ours.

Same here, validation errors when this plugin is active, none when it is inactive. I have no other mods/plugins installed for the archive.

I dont have any plugins/addons for archive its stock code without any adsense.

Would I be able to enter Yahoo code instead of Google? Obviously I wouldn't be able to use an Adlink block.

I like the placement this hack offers, but I use Yahoo on my Archive and Google on the main site... Seems I get a better SERP on Yahoo when I do that.

feel free to tweak this so it validates xhtml by all means..... I personally dont care about validation errors in the archive, but next time I'm in that section of code, I'll fix it and post an update.
