New computer!

yay! I've finally managed to re-retire the old mostly broken laptop after going on a spending spree this evening and getting myself a nice shiny new macbook and a shiny new 24" iMac which is being delivered tomorrow. You don't realise how much you miss a good computer until you are stuck with a really bad one for just over 2 months.

Allan 12-27-2006 09:35 PM

photos, photos !! :D

peterska2 12-27-2006 09:48 PM

those will be taken tomorrow when everything is here and set up :D

PennylessZ28 12-27-2006 09:51 PM

lol, I completely agree. I dislike mac's myself. But that's up to one's personal preferences.

Shazz 12-29-2006 02:53 AM

On macs you can't right click can you?

Adrian Schneider 12-29-2006 02:55 AM

I was at my cousins house earlier this winter and he had a newer mac (OSX) and it could right click fine... It was actually much nicer than Windows XP, I only had a few minor annoyances like the close/min/max buttons being on the left. The other cause of frustration was the hotkeys (apple instead of ctrl, which is in a different location, but some applications DO use the other key).

peterska2 12-29-2006 02:59 AM

right click is perfect on an imac. no rightclick on a macbook, but you just use ctrl + click instead. it's so much easier than windows though, especially than windows 95 which is what i've been using for the last 2 months

lasto 12-29-2006 09:02 AM

ive heard all the mac jokes but until i tried one i cant comment on how good they are or bad they are.But on saying that - if you have been using win95 then you must of really been in a bad way as that is pure trash and disguisting to look at.

Well done on new purchase - may your life be fullfilled :)

Seriously, why do these people buy Macs?
The boxes PCs come in are too hard for them to open.

Why aren't more Mac owners computer literate?
They would be, if they had a decent computer.

Dismounted 12-29-2006 09:25 AM

I like the Mac's GUI, it looks much better than Windows.

peterska2 12-29-2006 10:00 AM

I was one of those people who would never entertain anything other than windows, then I tried a mac and was instantly converted. Windows is ok, but mac is so much better.

sorry the quality isn't great, but the batteries are going in the camera so I had to brighten it in photoshop coz the flash won't go off without more power.

Adrian Schneider 12-29-2006 10:22 PM

Looks good... I'm not a big fan of that new monitor style though. I prefer the Cinema Display style.

One thing I notice on newer macs is the text... looks nicer

Shazz 12-29-2006 10:23 PM

now you can be at peterska2.co.uk and vb.org and another site all on the same view

peterska2 12-29-2006 10:25 PM

yeah, it's really handy being able to multifunction. My desk isn't big enough now and I can't spread out onto the table next to it at the min becasue the christmas tree is in the way.

lasto 12-29-2006 10:42 PM

why choose an imac over a pc anyway ?
what are the advantages and what can the imac do that a pc cant do ?
Are is it that when u an imac user u part of the privledged club ?

PC wins hand down all time to me.

peterska2 12-29-2006 10:45 PM

macs just do everything without all the messing about that you have with windows. I still have windows, and the other computer (still in pieces and waiting for a monitor) is a windows xp machine, but for most useage I prefer a mac. I guess it's just like some people prefer linux.

smacklan 12-30-2006 01:50 AM

The only thing thats kept me from buying a mac is having to convert all my software licenses to work on the mac OS...too much money to justify it so I just went with a new dual core xeon, 2 nVidia FX3450 PCI Express cards SLI'd together and added 5gb's of ram...oh and the XP Pro x64 OS is nice too...all ready for Vista :)

on topic - nice machine Kerry-Anne, I know you're thrilled to just be off 95 ;)

Shelley_c 12-30-2006 02:28 PM

Macs are just awkward machines I will rarely use my mac at home but have to use it for work. Awkward things, I've never liked them. Luckily I got my mac free from work even though it's gathering dust. :)

Well there are opensource alternatives like OpenOffice and the GIMP (at least, I think it has a mac version)... But you can also run bootcamp/parallels desktop and run Windows (on the Intel macs)... :D

No need to pay all that money for a "dumbed down" mac. Part of the allure is the OS, plus bootcamp is still in beta I believe.

MRGTB 12-31-2006 04:39 PM

Mac's looks good (never had one though). But I like the look of the OS. But Vista is due out which is very much alike to a mac OS than any over Windows version before.

UltimateOreo! 12-31-2006 04:48 PM

eek. A mac. Well, Dismounted, im pretty sure there is windows blinds for that. Well, I personally have nothing against Macs, i've just heard things about their quality. How much was it, and what version of Linux are you using?

Personally, I think the GUI of mac looks fantastic! If i could find a Mac skin for windows, I would use it.
