Photographers?

I was just wondering if there was a group of amateur or professional photographers here on the site? I've been shooting models for the last 10 years and enjoy all kinds of photography.

I'm working on a site where people can display their photos in a clutter free environment; not being happy with any of the sites I've joined that either are simple picture posting sites of people posting other people's work or larger sites with a flood of "circle rating" going on (and alot of "noise").

I have the framework up, but will only post info about it if there is a group of like-minded photographers looking for a clean place to share and comment on work of other photographers.

I'm a "professional" photographer, do mostly high school seniors, cars, and a few familys.

MPDev 12-01-2006 04:58 PM

Have you found any decent sites with other photographers who post their work and comment on it in a productive way? I've tried a dozen sites in the past few months and I come away disappointed every time - either I get overloaded with people sending me "post a comment on my photos" notes (I'll comment if I think it deserves one, not because you keep asking me to) or it's just a "photo sharing" environment where people are posting stuff they didn't shoot or produce.

I have a decent network of photographer friends; so this site would be a way for us to share our work within a network of like-minded people. Interested?

Why not make your own?

http://coppermine-gallery.net/

Great software to use, and it's completely free.

lasto 11-01-2008 09:43 PM

Im into it - please post all your pics you have taken so we can check them out to see if we want to join your club :)

ericgtr 11-04-2008 09:35 PM

I am also an amateur photographer, great hobby. I use smugmug for all of my photos, not only is their interface fantastic but they also allow for a ton of photos. I probably have 2 or 3 gigs worth on there all together. Here is my gallery if anyone wants to check it out (the domain name is a redirect to smugmug http://ericgtr.smugmug.com/

Winterworks 11-04-2008 11:36 PM

don't know if it's the same .. but I take photos of skateboarders.

http://teenagesound.com/

I like photographing moving things .. and then touch them up in Photoshop. Although these photos aren't touched up yet.

It's all about the timing ;)

These pictures were taking 2 years ago, though. I've improved :P

lol.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't MPDev develop for Photopost?

What's wrong with Flickr? Or are these photographs for a mature audience? Or maybe I'm missing the whole point of this thread..

Yes, "MPDev" is "Michael P", the primary developer at PhotoPost.

Well, seeing as how this thread is from 2006 my guess is that the OP decided to go in a different direction since then. ;)

KTBleeding 11-05-2008 06:00 PM

Whoa! :o I almost never do that..

My bad.

11-06-2008 12:27 PM

People thinks I'm good with cameras but consider myself a photographer....NO.

nochkin 11-06-2008 03:35 PM

I just started to go into professional photo. I do pregnancy shots and kids right now.
It's been a hobby for a long time (flowers, bugs, random people, urban etc).
It's always nice to see others people's work as you always get something interesting.
Thinking about getting a website for this business (should I put VB on it? :) ).

MPDev 11-06-2008 10:08 PM

Wow. Blast from the past. I did get a site together - http://www.shutteralley.com/ - and a small group of us posted on there, but it got a little stale without me promoting it enough to bring in new blood.

Yes, i do develop for photopost - but my main frustration was at being kicked off deviantart because I refused to give the owners names and phone numbers of my models (they wouldnt like that too much). And the site was so huge, it was hard to develop connections with serious semi-or-pro photographers. My content does cross some lines for some sites - although nothing like that hardcore stuff of today. Just hard to share my work without getting someones feathers ruffled.

I never did find a site that just let me share my photos and comment on others; flickr and the others are just image hosting sites and not anything like what I was looking for.

nochkin 11-07-2008 03:41 AM

MPDev, nice gallery. But not organized to my taste :) It's hard to find what you like.
I appreciate your sharing anyway, I've got some ideas too.

As far as discussing.. I know some russian sites, but you have to know Russian.
My father like photo.net, but it was not what I wanted.

Zachariah 11-07-2008 08:08 AM

When time we shoot local community events.

noppid 11-07-2008 12:02 PM

I see a title goldeneye on one photo on your site. Those of us that know, can now understand why they wanted your models names. It's called Title 18 U.S.C. ? 2257 Requirements Regarding Models Appearing on a Website.

I take thousands of pictures and post them, but I'm not a photographer. http://www.riderinfo.com/forums/vbpi...do=hall&u=2636

MPDev 11-07-2008 01:52 PM

I'm very much aware of 2257 and my issue was my own in not wanting to provide that information not knowing how it would be protected (and being told there was no assurances of protection for that info). GlodenEye is not one of my photos.

noppid 11-07-2008 01:58 PM

Hey, I'm not trying to be a PITA. I respect the privacy issues. But it is what it is. You can't complain. You did the right thing and did it yourself.

yq

Ohiosweetheart 11-09-2008 12:48 PM

I was a pro photog at one time years ago. I gave it up when I moved to Ohio 4 yrs ago, but I still shoot candids and nature shots (in other words, gone amateur ;) )

dismas 11-12-2008 04:03 AM

My wife does pet photography... She's the one with the artistic talent...

nochkin 11-12-2008 12:13 PM

dismas,
I like pet photography, especially a good one.
Is it possible to see some of her work? There are so few good ones so I would love to see that.

Guest210212002 11-13-2008 11:45 PM

I'm about as amateur as they get, I even have a webpage up that uses frames to prove it! :D

Mountain Dog Photography. Have a look and see what ya think. The site needs a couple tweaks but you'll get a good idea of her work.

xBhp, your photos are absolutely fantastic. I would love to get some post processing tips from you. I also have a Canon 350D with a 70/200L, a 17/40L and a 50 1.4 it's great to see someone with similar equipment take such great shots, it gives me hope! If you have any links to your PP or care to share some tips that would be great.

Marco van Herwaarden 12-18-2008 06:41 AM

There is also a large photography thread on vB.com.

Wow, agreed, absolutely fantastic work xBhp.

An amateur I am, but I recently took up the hobby. Still have so much to learn but here's my first try.

The first pic is of a Sand Hill Crane that visits me frequently. This is what I see when I open my front door... He's fantastic.

The second is of my cat in the Bouganvilla
