Snow for Christmas

Snow For Christmas
(not supported)

This is a VERY simple addon that will give the effect of snow falling on your forums, its great for the holiday season, and makes it an easy way to give your forum that holiday feel without doing a bunch of editing or theme changes.

Step 1. Download the attached snow.zip (unpack it) and upload the snow.js to your forums root
(you can also edit the snow.js to change, speed & amount of snow that falls)

Step 2. Go to ADMIN > STYLE MANGER > your style > HEADER
In the "header" box add this code:

Code:

<!-- Start Snow For Christmas Code -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="snow.js"></script>
<!-- End Snow For Christmas Code -->

(this will make it snow on all areas of your forum)

If you only want the snow effect to be seen on the main page of your forum then do Step 3 instead of Step 2

Step 3. Go to your styles "FORUMHOME" and add the above code just under the "<head>"

This has only been tested on 3.6.2 using IE6

To stop this effect after the holidays, simply comment out the script code like this:

Code:

<!-- Start Snow For Christmas Code -->
<!-- <script type="text/javascript" src="snow.js"></script> -->
<!-- End Snow For Christmas Code -->

Yeh but how do you get them bigger ?

phovanxua 11-26-2006 08:52 PM

I got a set of snow flake ...if you want I can give it to you to replace .... i got this mod form snow flake linkman ...I edit the snow by leaf for the Falls season ...you can check my forum here : http://www.vietdetroit.com

But that mod only work on IE ...it's doesn't show on FF .

So let try your mod to see if it work .

By the way if you add the script to bottom footer any where it will work all the forum ...include the home page vbadvanced .

phovanxua 11-26-2006 09:18 PM

I like to see it work with FF and share with all people here .

Anyone here can do it ?

Look for the zip file below if you can make it work with FF ,also in that zip file there is images snow ...it's look better .

^I don't think your allowed to post someone elses Modification without there permission..

Ev!L ErN!E 11-26-2006 10:34 PM

I did not write the snow java script, so I can't really help you with adding new things into it, like light bulbs and what not... but really if you want to search google for snow effect java scripts that are more to your liking you can do the edits I posted and just replace the "snow.js" with your own. As posted by someone else though, the larger the flakes the more lag your forum will have, thats why I used this script, its small and loads nicely.

You feel free to look over here : http://www.vbviet.org/forums/showthr...ight=snowflake

If you know this mod came form some one else ...let me know ...i'll take it off ...so far ...I know I got that mod from there .

Enjoy now .

I will use it! :D
Thanks.

Mr Pink 11-28-2006 09:41 PM

Hey, how can I make this flakes more big? I need also to make them more obscure..

*sorry for my bad english*

Josh1 11-28-2006 11:49 PM

Used this last year, thanks.

edit:
And does this one make the browser use a sh*t load of resources like last time?

Ev!L ErN!E 11-29-2006 12:55 AM

It doesn't use images for the snow effect, so its very easy on any browser and it shouldn't slow down your forums at all because of that.

Delw 11-29-2006 06:53 AM

for the Vbadvanced CMPS all you need to do is add the snow.js file to your root directory. and it works just fine.

Note: I have it added to my root Dir and My forum root Dir. I just tried it out and it worked. I am sure it can be placed in one dir and the code be edited to a more specific address Again I dont know cause I havent tried it and it was easier just to add it to my main root also at the time

Code:

<!-- Start Snow For Christmas Code -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.your website .com/snow.js"></script>
<!-- End Snow For Christmas Code -->

Spiffware 11-29-2006 10:43 AM
