I've installed this, running 3.6.4 and I don't see it on my forumhome.
Any ideas?

sunnycher 11-26-2006 11:47 AM

You would IMPORT the product just like any other...and then do the TEMPLATE edits and then go in VBOPTIONS and fix those settings there.

Lol, you don't post saying pm sent, it defeats the purpose of pm's and is usually considered spam by most sites. Also why not post the problem and the fix in case other members are having similiar issues, it might help them solve it without going the whole pm process.

Yep, the product was updated..

Kadi 11-27-2006 04:36 AM

I imported the xml and editted the template and activited it but it hasn't appeared.

There is only one template edit, isnt there?

Farjad 11-28-2006 01:14 AM

^^Yes...:confused: ..Should appear......you checked the vboptions?

Kadi 11-28-2006 12:22 PM

yes I did. nothing appeared.

I've uninstalled and will try again later. Great hack though. I really could use it.

yui333 11-28-2006 02:08 PM

I've noticed if your forum ID had 3 digits (i.e. above 99) then this would not work.. :(

My announcements forum ID was above 100 and it did not work..

It worked with other forums though which their IDs digits less than 3..

Can this be fixed?

Hmm..are you sure?? You get any sql error etc?

yui333 11-29-2006 12:37 AM

Ops! Sorry, I forgot to say THANK YOU in the begining.. So here it is, although it is late.. THANK YOU.

Ok, now to our topic..

No, none of SQL errors occurred.. everything was fine.

I tried with all my forums, and it worked so well..

But, when I added a 3-digits number as a forum ID, it would not work at all.

I thought maybe my announcement forum was impaired (stupid idea), but I deleted it :D and opened a new one.. and the same problem occurred, nothing is shown, as my forum ID is above 99.

I added new posts as an attempt, so might it work.. but nothing :(

I tried IDs such as 14, 46, and 49, and they worked great.

Any idea about what's going on with this hack?

ninjamaster 11-29-2006 09:00 AM

thanks for this :) i will install it later:)

Ahh.. i think i know why, is there any sticky in the announcement forum?

yui333 11-30-2006 01:17 AM

lol :D guess what!! It works so well now..

I have no sticky threads in the announcement forum, and when I've imported your updated version it has not worked.. I've almost despaired of it.

Yet, my other forums have stickies, but the hack has worked with them!

I just tried my last attempt and chose NO from "Sticky only?" options, and guess what!! It has worked so well :)

Now everything is fine.. and I have clicked INSTALL

Thanks

And I have a question..

How can I colour the annoucement threads titles in this hack?.. I think if they are red, they will look nicer..

And the word "Announcement", can it be on the middle instead of being on the left?

I really like this plug, and have skinned it to be a lot more concise - I'd be willing to share if anyone is interested, it is not complex. You can see at www.rmxp.org

I have a question about how the topics in the FA block are ordered. On my forum as I post this, the 3 latest announcements are:
  • No October backup.
  • Dragon Kid Image Dump
  • RMXP.org's downtime: The whole story
in that order. However, the chronological order of which has the most recent posts is:
  • Dragon Kid Image Dump
  • No October backup.
  • RMXP.org's downtime: The whole story
Why is the FA bit not updating as fast as the forum listing itself?

Nice Hack, Great job. Thanks

Kadi 12-03-2006 11:18 AM

Hi,

I reinstalled and its working fine now. Thanks. :)

Qs:

I need the thread/thread starter column to be aligned to the right. (Arabic forum). How do I do that?

How do i center the title?

I looked up the words in the phrase manager to translate them but couldn't find them. Thats how I always translate hacks. Am I missing something?

Sorry about the many questions.

Thank you.

Hi Yui. The mod is pretty simple. You will have to interpret this a little: I hard-coded some of the templates since I know my announcement forum is not going to change; this saves a query or two, for what it's worth.
forumhome_la
Code:

</table>
<DIV class="announcementbox">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<tbody>
        <tr>
                <td class="thead" colspan="3">
                        <a href='forumdisplay.php?f=2' class="forumtitle" style="font-size: 130%; font-stretch:wider"><span class="smallfont" style="float:right;margin-top:3px">Click here to see all announcements</span>Latest Announcements!</a>
                </td>
        </tr>
</tbody>
<tbody>
$latest_announce_thread_bit
</tbody>
<tbody>
        <tr>
                <td class="thead" colspan="3">
<a href='faq.php#faq_subscriptions' class="smallfont" style="float:right;margin-top:3px">Subscriptions and Sponsorships</a>
                        <a href='http://rw.rmxp.org/index.php?title=rules' class="forumtitle" style="font-size: 130%; font-stretch:wider">Rules and Guidelines</a>
                </td>
        </tr>
</tbody>
</table></div><br />
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">

Links will have to be tweaked to suit.

forumhome_la_threads
Code:

<tr>
<td class="tcat" style="font-size:90%" align="left" width="70%">

<span class="smallfont" style="float:right"><span style="cursor:pointer" onclick="window.open('member.php?u=$latest_announce_thread[postuserid]')">posted by $latest_announce_thread[postusername]</span></span>

<a href="showthread.php?t=$latest_announce_thread[threadid]" style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;">$latest_announce_thread[title]</a>
</td>
<td class="alt1Active" align="left">
<center class="smallfont">Last post by <a href="member.php?find=lastposter&t=$latest_announce_thread[threadid]">$latest_announce_thread[lastposter]</a></center>
</td>
<td class="alt1Active" align="left">
<center class="smallfont">$latest_announce_thread[replycount] replies</center>
</td>
</tr>

And in Main CSS add this to the Additional CSS Definitions: (for the main skin you see on my forum default)
Code:

/* ***** style of box that contains latest announcements ***** */
.announcementbox{
padding:5px;
margin:0px;
border:solid #90e;
border-width:1px;
background-attachment: fixed;
background-image: url("[whatever the background image of your forum is]");
background-repeat: repeat;
}

You will have to play with this to make it look right on your forum, I imagine, but it should get you started.

yui333 12-03-2006 03:04 PM

Thank you MimeSong Erk for sharing this with us.

It did not work so well with my style, so I think I have to modify your code to suit my style!

But honestly, your idea is nice.. I hope I will fix it soon.

Actually this is done in the order its posted, meaning the newest one at the top, oldest one at the bottom ( as you can see by the threadid ).

Can you please edit forumhome_la template, and change the align="center" or whatever it is currently to align="right" and you can translate it there also :) Sorry I have not use any vbphrases, but I will look forward to use it in the future :)

Kadi 12-06-2006 02:42 PM

Thanks.

I got the thread/thread starter title aligned to the right but not the posts in that column. How do I change that?

When I added vbphrases I got an error.

I'm sorry to take up your time but could you show me what to change in the template?

Thanks Farjad, I can't believe I didn't see that in the first post. :p

Working on some updates to mine that will make it clearer when there have been posts in an announcement topic. I may post the changes when I am done or link to them, again if there is interest.
