Opening Hours for a forum ?!
 

Hi,
I'm german, but i try to write in an understandable english :D

I need a simple Script, which makes it so, that a defined forum is only from e.g. 0pm till 6am available. The users can see the Forum every time, but if they click on it and its not the right time, they get a blockmessage.


Is this understandable for you? :)

Haha, ok it's slightly more difficult than I thought but I'd like to finish it. What exactly would you like the modification to do? To disable replies during closing time? To disable viewing the forum entirely? What about being able to see threads in the closed section from a search?

And so on.

The forum should be viewable everytime. (only the forum, on the forumhome). If the user clicks on it and its not the right time, he should get a message thats not the right time and he cant get in. So nobody (may be only the admin) can reply during the closing time.

Only if it is the right time (opening-time), a user can get acces to the forum and can see all threads and posts.

Well, if nobody has access to the forum during closing time and gets a blockmessage, he can search in this forum, but cant view the posts, because he would get the message that it isnt the right time, right?

A scheduled task to close the forum and a custom error message would probably be the fastest way to go. (no, I don't have time to do it)

Yeah, but I wanted to be able to do it per forum as well which is rather more difficult.

Soonish means soon, but I don't know.

I really don't know how long it will be, sorry. It's just whenever I have the spare time to do something.

I had time to start, but it didn't work the way I expected and then I got sidetracked by other jobs.

If I ever do it, I'll let you know. I'd like to, cos I think others would appreciate it too but I just don't have time at the moment.

I love this idea. Would be a perfect business solution for a forums board if you work at certain hours and run all of your customer service from them...

i think nobody is realizing this...what a shame..

how about somone who is a coder give us what we need to know just an outline. I am like a novice in Java so maybe i can learn a thing or 2. it would prob take me like 4+ month cause i got school and work but i need a hack similar to this

4 month? thats to long. I think its a very litte script if it has only the one mainfeature...so a coder can script it in a few hours/days

o ok, ya im taking 18 hrs in college so i have limited time. So i just figured if i work on it on my free time i can get it. o well

but if i close a forum with this hack, can the user read the forum ? (i havent enough time at the moment to test it, sorry) He shouldnt can read it :)
