i just purchased photopost and im disappointed

Why is this even paid? I mean - I was happier with VBa Gallery, IMO - the layout and functionality was way better. but since they stopped development and came out with photopost in it's place - i felt i had to switch. One of the reasons for the switch in the first place was for support.

One more reason for my switch was because after my research i concluded that they were the most well integrated with VBulletin.

I gotta tell ya - The support on photopost forums is terrible.

[edit]
I have been contacted DIRECTLY by the President/CEO of Photopost himself and all my issues have been cleared up.
Unfortunately - I did not do enough research before going ahead and making these claims.
I think Photopost is a great script (which is why i purchased it in the first place) and im sorry if this or any other thread I have posted with slander about the product has had any negative affects on the company itself.

I dont use their forums (nor their client area forums) for support. Everytime I had an issue, it was solved really fast thru the ticket system or by email. Try that ;)

Shazz 11-20-2006 03:05 AM

free gallerys on here are much better -.-

imported_infitech 11-20-2006 03:13 AM

honestly i wish i purchased photoplog instead.
who makes photoplog BTW.

@ COBRAws I will try that ticket system thing....

I wish there was some legal way to trade licenses.
Even if it were legal i'd like to trade for a license as recent or newer than mine to be completely honest.

What are some of the better "free' ones? I was planning to buy photopost myself. But, this has given me second thoughts now.

Huh? PhotoPost PHP Pro and PhotoPost vBGallery (what used to be vBa Gallery) are two totally different products, both in functionality and code.

ZacUSNYR 11-20-2006 02:32 PM

I like my photopost :)

amnesia623 11-20-2006 06:25 PM

Yeah - Love my photopost pro! No issues.

COBRAws 11-20-2006 06:55 PM

Been using PP Pro for almost 3 years without a problem. Its great, btw thanks for this thread, we realised that we had to update to the latests release heh

odonel 11-20-2006 11:11 PM

photoppost pro is great, what is your problem with it import ? i got support real quick...

Smoothie 11-20-2006 11:19 PM

Photopost Pro user for almost 4 years. Chuck @ PP forums has always been helpful when I've had problems. And it integrates fully w/ vB. That's one of the main reasons I bought it.

Chuck is the only one providing support at PP. That's just not enough. Photopost is missing some KEY features that all galleries should have. I will give you ONE example - (and it's so simple it's not even funny) LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF FILMSTRIP THUMBNAILS!

You know what - will give you two..... What happened to the Newest/Most popular/Most viewed bar on the top of the gallery as a default option.... This is now a Hack/Mod that needs to be installed. This is a feature that should BE INCLUDED in all gallery scripts.

Another thing about photopost is that the navigation of the whole thing leaves much to be desired.

I've been quite happy with the product and support over @ PP. Not sure why you're having issues. I'm not sure what you mean about limit the amount of FS thumbnails. Which location in PP are you not able to limit these?

Also, as near as I can tell, most (not all) of those options listed above can be shown or not shown on the index page. It suits my needs, but apparently not yours. Sorry to hear about that.

If you've been to the actual PP support forums, you do realize then that "Michael P" not only gives support but is the primary developer? Then there is Zachariah supporting primarily PP vBGallery. And, of course, there are a couple of volunteers who pop in from time to time.

Have you posted yet in the PP support forums with your issues?

You are not able to limit the amount of filmstrip thumbnails in the "showphoto" page and you are not able to limit the number of characters for an image title in the recent images preview on the indexes

These SHOULD be included features but they are not.

I have numerous unanswered threads.
I also have posted on threads that I've found that ask the questions i wanted answered - pretty much bumped them, but they go unanswered.

Reading some threads over at PP... looks like the vB.com vs. vB.org issue where the user is not happy with being told that modifications that he/she wants is considered a hack/modification and not a standard support issue.

Can't please everyone.

There are over 200 configuration items; including being able to display all three items on the main index. If you are talking about the ability to configure all three to display at the top of the index versus Recent at the top and the other two under the categories, well, you got me there - it's not that granular as far as being able to set the location of all three separately.

As far as Chuck not being enough to provide support, I assume you are talking about wanting support for making modifications to the code which falls outside our support system. It's true that our support staff is not obligated to provide modification support, but you will see us in there trying to point people in the right direction as we can. We also offer paid modification development if you want to hire us to do the work for you. For the record, Chuck and I both provide support; although Chuck does most of the work since I also develop the code.

I'm sorry that you have had a less than pleasant experience; we've tried to distinguish between what we support and what we provide as a courtesy for our customers, but some still read the lack of developer involvement in the Modifications area as a lack of support.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda.....Know what? Seems like you didn't fully investigate before buying. If there were specific features you needed (vs demanded), you should have either looked more thoroughly at the script or asked before you plunked down your cash. It amazes me that users don't see what they want and then whine after the purchase because it's not there.

There are unhappy users at every software purchase. If the software is insufficient to satisfy your needs, you're the one to blame. Since you already purchased, if you'd quit you're demanding attitude and try asking or suggesting, you might be suprised as to what can happen.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

That would appear to be the navbar from vBGallery.

No navigation bar in Photopost pro... An obvious feature that should be default.

So what do you consider that bar with options to be at the top?
