Require X posts to use custom titles

I have been searching through the whole database and coudn't find anything. Well you see, I'm requesting a hack that would require uses to have X amount of posts before they can use their own custom usertitle.

Can anyone please make this? I know this can be done already but I just don't wanna make a new, seperate usergroup for members just so they could have their own titles.

Snake 11-07-2006 10:42 AM

Bump!

Please. :(

Zachery 11-07-2006 01:17 PM

Is there any reason you _refuse_ to use the promotion system and custom usergroups?

Snake 11-08-2006 06:56 AM

Well, I think it's pretty much stupid to have a seperate group for members just so they could have their own custom titles. And in this case, I'll then have to update the permission / forum masks for the new group which I can't be bothered to do so.

Zachery 11-08-2006 12:37 PM

How do you figure? You can base the groups permissions off an exsisting group already.

Snake 11-08-2006 03:54 PM

Yes, I realize that already but I find it really pointless to have a seperate usergroup just for that. I don't want the members to have the use of usertitles through this process.

Besides you would have to wait an hour before you can use a title. Well you know how cron jobs are and all.

scdurwood 11-08-2006 04:35 PM

seems reasonable to me to explain to members that they must be promoted to get certain features and promotions happen at a certain time....

I only run promotions once a week...

...also, if all of your members are going to have to achieve this posting level prior to having the feature, why is it a burden to set up a usergroup to control the process? After all, you are creating a subgroup of posters in the first place...

In any case, should be relatively simple to apply a conditional to the title call...

You'd have to wait 15ish min at the most if you're really wanting it to be updated that often. And you'd onlu possibly wait 15 min IF you JUST BARELY missed the cron. More than likely 5-10 min.,

Snake 11-09-2006 07:37 AM

Well, whatever that is. But I really need this as a modification that can be editable with a few extra features in the Admin CP.

RedTyger 11-09-2006 03:59 PM

What would the few extras be? Throw us a bone here mate!

sof-guild 11-15-2006 03:13 PM

I would also love a feature like this. I run a gaming guild forum, and would like to offer custom titles as a reward to members who post a lot. However, due to the structure of the guild, the game and the alliance, I already have ~20 usergroups of varying permissions, and I really don't want to double that just so some people have custom titles - permission maintenance is already enough of a pain.

Not to sound snippy, but you "can't be bothered" to take 5 minutes in the ACP, but want a custom hack made, unpaid? :\

COBRAws 11-15-2006 05:32 PM

I seccond this

rogersnm 11-15-2006 07:30 PM

so 5 mins just to add some usergroups or half an hour to code a hack... Am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing the request. Some admins, like him and me, dont like having 1000's usergroups just for tiny things like usertitles. ;)

Zachery 11-16-2006 02:18 AM

Then go out of your way to add a feature that already exsists :p

rogersnm 11-16-2006 12:52 PM

it's only 2 usergroups not 2000

The point is this is _exactly_ what the system was designed to do and your ignoring it. IF you had sat down and done a well planned out usergroup implimentation it wouldnt have been an issue to start with. If your already doing other normal promotions incoperate this one into one of them.

sof-guild 11-17-2006 02:14 PM

OK, maybe I don't understand how the system is _supposed_ to work, then. On the site I run, the host guild has 7 usergroups with varying permissions to various forums. There are three guilds in the alliance, each of which has three levels of permissions on their own. So off the bat, there's 16 usergroups plus regular forum members. Now, in order to accomodate user titles for all these groups, I need to make another version of each group with identical permissions except with custom usertitles? No? What am I missing, here?

Forgive me for asking dense questions, but I inherited this job and do not have a lot of experience as a forum admin.

No, make a usergroup that matches the initial usergroups permissions except with the ability to have PM's. You can clone the registered usergroups permissions setup as well, so you wont need to redo permissions everywhere.

Now setup the promotion for additional usergroups.

Best bet is still promotions :)

Dismounted 01-05-2007 05:32 AM

What's wrong with using promotions?

Anyway, if you insist, I might carve up something.

Snake 01-05-2007 03:11 PM

Dismounted, I already explained why I don't wanna use the stupid promotions system which is built-in vBulletin already and I'm not going to use that!

Awesome! If you're willing to do it, then I'd be happy to donate a few bucks to you. :D

Dismounted 01-09-2007 05:15 AM

Request Done! :)

Bah. I was just going to make this until I read that you just did it. Haha. Nice job.
