Did I do something wrong that i'm not aware of?

No one answers my posts.

I come here for help and support and yet for all the posts ive made asking for help, even simple things, not one single person has bothered to help me.

Yet i see other people who make a post, and are assisted almost immedatly.

There are so many members here, and so many programmers that i cant figure out how i am able to always ask the questions that apparently no one knows the answer to.

im a licensed user, im not using an illegal version of the software, im not breaking any laws, so why do my threads go unanswerd.

smacklan 10-09-2006 02:24 PM

maybe it's because nobody loves you? ;) (j/k)

Coders mostly reply only to members that are well known here.Yeah that is a negative point of the support here.

Not at all.

I'm not too active here, so i don't know who's "cool", and who's not.

I try to help everyone i can. :)

I'm only posting in here because smacklan and Ziki have posted in here....

If it's an easy (or common) problem things will be answered quickly. Most of us are customers just like you, so it's not like we're paid to help; but, we help on our spare time because we're nice guys. Just bump them every day or two if they remain unanswered, otherwise they are burried with newer threads.

Welcome to my world.

if it is genral support post on vbulletin.com, if it is hack support, then i suppose you have to get in line like the rest of us ;)

BigJohnny 10-09-2006 08:31 PM

well yeah its all hacks stuff, its just that the stuff im having problems with is fairly easy stuff to an advanced coder.... those who have created such extensive hacks.... whereas for me this simple problem, is a problem with no solution until one of these advanced guys comes and says "oh hey dont be stupid, its this easy"

Just because someone has a title of advanced coder, doesn't mean that things are fairly easy to them - or answers are that way. It just means that they have met a set of criteria for receiving that title. I've released a couple of hacks and got a "coder" or "designer" title (not sure which - doesn't matter - don't really care) - what DOES matter is that I am learning and am trying to help out the community. What I do care about is the community and my desire to work on things to help out. I am working on 4-5 hacks right now in my spare time for people that have asked for certain things and because there are hacks that I am using or have tried out that don't quite fit the need of me and others and others want something more. I want to give back and hopefully get someone to build on the work I've done. Some of the last few hacks I've put out I've come up with in about an hour's time (if you don't count distractions such as phone calls :P) Other hacks it took me several weeks to put together and one hack I'm still working on eleven months later (I had to start over since my work was destroyed after my sited was defaced and I failed to back it up before moving it to the new site :()

In regards to the initial statement of not giving help, I personally try to help people when I feel I can. If I read a thread and feel I can help a person, I will post a response - but I don't want to just post a reply and mislead a person causing them more grief than when they initially posted. What's easy for one person may not be so easy for another. Some people are naturally gifted - others may learn for months or even years (like me :P). But once I learn, If I know something I'm willing to help.

That's a great personality trait for a moderator: wanting to help people out.

Willingness to help aside, I think another one of the problems is simply the enormous difference in the number between coders and non-coders. If the 90% non-coder group has problems, you can't expect the tiny group of coders to help everybody.

So now that you have their attention, why not point them at the posts you would like answered - before this gets into another giant debate about who helps who and why.

i know how the title system works, by advanced coders i mean people who have coded these extensive and rather large hacks.
I also want to help, i want to be able to release my own hacks, but i dont understand this code so much, and i have an extremely hard time learn by just reading about it.

so i ask here so i can leanr and get responses and input, and then no one is around to answer.

one of the things i want to learn to do right now is have a textbox on newthread, so a user can input text into it, and store that into the database.... then i want to pull that data for the thread it was entered in, and display it on showthread.

I cant find any precise information on this or any tutorials for how to do it... closest i have come is looking through the thread description hack.

Im trying to make an auto close thread hack.... a very widely requestd hack that for some reason no one has made.... but i cant find any help with it, and all the help i have found ot this point is someone telling me how it should work and going offline without really helping me (learn anything) at all.

All i want is to learn this code, and have the ability to code my own hacks.

I can honestly say that I don't believe I've helped anyone out because of their status on this site. I always look at the request first, regardless of who they are. If I have the time and inclination I will help out, keeping in mind that we've all started out not knowing anything about vBulletin at one time or another.

I accept bribes in the form of hot women and cold cash. Good drinks may also be accomodated upon request.

I got ignored the most time too, maybe it's because I'm a german?

I just mis-read your name everytime and *whistles*

Anyway, I'll help anyone that I can with anything. Been struggling the last few weeks to get online and still am so it's really frustrating as I see so many help requests and just cannot do anything about them as I have to be really quick when I am online and the connection is very unreliable (not to mention probably costing me in the region of $1+ per mb surfed by now as I am more than likely over the acceptable use limit that my cellphone provider has on their network. Once I get back to normal (moved house and still waiting for the net to be installed) then I'll be back to my normal helping anyone with anything (within my abilities) but in the meantime it's taking me all my time to provide minimal support for my releases and keep remotely upto date with things like announcements and site feedback.

Ramsesx 10-12-2006 03:51 PM

Ok, if the new avatar is not doing it, I'm sure it's a secret vb.org conspiracy.
