BoardTracker Advanced Topic Tags System - v2!

BoardTracker Thread Tags Mod - ***version 2.1*** :cool:

This easy to install mod adds a complete thread tagging and tag search system to your board. Tags are displayed with the thread, similar to the tagging and tag search often used on blogs, and link to a tag search system on your board which is powered by boardtracker. (meaning no search load on your servers!)

Tag search and tag results are fully integrated with your board, similar to our other board search mods.

New in version 2.1:

Locally cached tagclouds updated by vb cron
Full css customization of tagclouds on any vb page
Restrict tagging to certain usergroups
Disallow tagging in specific forums
Tag posting uses the standard vb 'censorwords' to block posting of innappropriate words
Tag search uses the standard search 'badwords' list

Advanced tag search options include:

Search tags by user
Search tags by forum and related forums
Search by boardtracker category
Search tags on all boards in boardtracker (optional)
Restrict search by date range
Tag cloud and 'related tags' cloud on search results - fully customizable!
Mod_rewrite option for tag links
RSS feed for tag searches
Search tags on a single or multiple specific boards you define thereby allowing you to create traffic trading rings with other board owners or just within your own boards if you have more than one.
Many options to play with the in admin panel!

If your board is not yet indexed by BoardTracker, make sure to submit it! :)

Tags created are indexed and searchable on boardtracker search engine also and can appear in various boardtracker tag clouds bringing you more traffic!

Once you have the mod installed and your users have started tagging, you will be able to add tag clouds to any page on your board - just copy/paste the following onto any vb page..

You can also add your tag cloud to any site with this simple bit of html/js.

You can see an example of the tag search on our demo forums (using tag results from another board just for example since there are no real threads/tags there)

To upgrade from the last version just install the product in the usual way, upload the files and then go through the template edits as described in the included README file. There are additional template edits and also modified (simplified) edits to the previous versions template edits so you should remove the old ones and add these although the old ones will still work as long as the additional new edits are also done.

Make sure to activate the 'BT Tag Cloud Cache' sheduled task once everything else is done (scripts uploaded etc) - requires cURL which most people have already but if you dont have then just use the standard html/js version of the tagclouds and leave the scheduled task inactive.

v2.1.1 - minor fix to the font-size setting in tags_default.css so to upgrade you only need to upload that file.
v2.1 - added locally cached tag clouds with cron, usergroup and forum restrictions, censorwords filters, full css customization for tag clouds on any page.

All tags are also indexed and searchable in boardtracker and on other boards through the global search option and tag clouds and rss feeds for tags will keep people coming back. :cool:

Made some small changes to the tags template to make the options link more visible since it seems some people didn't realise you could click it for 'advanced search' options!

Feedback on this mod or our others is welcome as always. :)

I think I may install this one instead of zoints. Looks like it has more features. :)

Seems to be very useful from what I can see. I love the ability to edit and control the look of it!

I just installed this on Disboards.com I think it will be a great way to produce more targeted searchs

v2.0.6 out now fixes a problem affecting tags only when using the ajax quick edit. To upgrade just import the product xml again, no manual edits needed.

we're currently working on the list of features for the next major release so if you have any suggestions for features you'd like to see implemented, please let us know.

Even though i've writted tags into the new threads, for example, i saved a tag called Middlesbrough, i went to search for that tag and it didn't find anything.

it helps by providing members with more ways to find what they want, related threads, currently hot topics and also could help with seo by providing more content/pages on your board not to mention the tags being index by boardtracker and appearing in our tag clouds

If you have no tags yet then just uninstall the vb3.5 version and then install the vb3.6 version.
if you have tags you don't want to lose then edit the product (through the vb admin) and delete the sql that removes the tags column before running uninstall otherwise it will delete all the existing tags.

Yes, of course you can do this.
Simply edit the 'newthread' templat, and move $vbphrase[bt_tag_howto] to wherever you want. in this case, move it to the cell where the input field is, after the input field, with a <br> before the $vbphrase[bt_tag_howto]

You need to either put a <br> before the explanation bit and/or move it into the <td> where the input field is, in case you didn't do it yet.
(The way it is originally set is in a seperate <td>, so that it appears on the right side. Move it to the first <td> then.)

If you can supply a URL where it is installed, we can better advise where exactly to put the variable in case it's still not clear.

great modification but for some reason im not receiving my email with my forum ID so i can have it search only my forum.

I am having a heck of a time getting this thing to work. I want it above the threads and I keep getting parse errors. Can anyone assist?

It worked great for me but one thing I dislike is the results on boardtracker.com don't have re-written url's as vbseo does :(

Hope this gets fixed and I'll re install

it takes a long time to get activated in the system. I have been waiting for that email with my boardtracker id and it has not arrived.

This will change very soon. Adding new boards is going to be much faster.

Very soon as we are about to roll out the new system :)

One feature I need to see is a timeout for those rare occasions when the Boardtracker site is down...it can make some page loads on the forum VERY slow...while it's a rare frustration, it's enough to generate a pile of complaints from my users, something I really can't tolerate.

15.25 seconds, and the Tag Cloud portion never loaded....

please let me know when a solution for this is created so i can re-activate this plugin.

im using 3.64.. and i installed... it works fine until i want to create a new thread... then i get a dbase error... i uninstall it .. and my site is back to normal... BUT i was having this same problem with another hacker earlier...
