:D Just the sort of adult humour on the site - blame the members

Jay... 10-17-2006 06:11 PM

52 views and only one reply. come on

fsk1290 10-19-2006 03:04 PM

too skinny.........but fun content.........who cares about the swearing......

MRGTB 10-22-2006 08:16 PM

Nothing special really (even though it is a nice skin), simply because it's not a custom skin you've created yourself from scratch. It's a purchased skin, thats a well used one too at that.

to skinny for me too,

nice job with the forum icons,

Yeah what mod are you using on the forum home? I like it and would like to give it a go on my forum.

Good work

plus a little bit of editing. if you have a look through that thread theres a few templates etc etc

hotwheels 12-06-2006 12:37 PM

very kewl jay, and i personally like that fact that your member's are free to express themselve's there..........lovin it.

Rich 12-07-2006 09:02 PM

The first thought that came to my mind when I viewed your forum homepage was "kids". That in itself caused me to hit the back button. I am an adult, who is a carpenter. Foul language in itself has zero effect on me. When I read the administrators "welcome" post and it is riddled with swears, I just shook my head and said "waste of time".

Jay... 12-07-2006 09:29 PM

fair enough Rich, Donked is aimed towards the northeast clubbing community, now you can imagine that we are not all 'prim & proper', the site started out as any normal forum but it became full of a lot of adult humour and that is basically how it has stayed. Thanks for your opinion though. I'll consider it when the site gets a make-over shortly

Rich 12-08-2006 10:42 AM

Hello,

Sorry my take on the site wasn't up to par. I am a far cry from "trim and proper", so you are actually getting a review from someone that just may have happened across the site. I have a foul mouth myself, but when it is displayed so prominently on the homepage of a site, it immediately makes the reader think either "kids", or "oh cool, I can swear here." lol

hotwheels 12-08-2006 01:35 PM

You are absolutely right rich, and that's what is kewl about the forum review section, in my opinion......

We as the forum builder can take from these post's and do what we feel we need to based off of vbulletin.org''s member's review's.....

Immortal_Shades 12-08-2006 02:27 PM

I personally have to agree with Rick. Born & Raised in NYC, my foul makes makes the supranos cringe. The last thing as a web user I want to deal with is foul mouth on a site. Some sort of order must previal.

Don't get me wrong to each his own, but no site will become huge with such an attitude and freedom to curse. Remember when you build a site, you build it so that perhaps in the future it will grow so big some one may buy it from you and/or you get paying advertisers. Unless you dont care about those things.

I like to look at it in a whole different view. To allow such cursing means opening the door up to foul mouth kids and people which we all know equals to lots of future headaches. I personally would rather not deal with the whole negative aspect of it. But best of luck on your site anyways!

BTW: How did you get yoru news to display on the front page like that?

KW802 12-08-2006 02:28 PM

With a name like "Donked" I was expecting the site to be about cars (particulary a certain style from the USA South), not a bunch of college age kids swearing because they can.

Visually, it's a nice looking site and the forum columns hack works nicely with it :) but subject matter wise I won't be back :(.

Shelley_c 12-08-2006 02:55 PM

Like KW802 stated the style is visually pleasing but the content is something that won't appeal to the majority of people.

doesn't do anything for me....visually, contextually...nothing.

digital_sc4rz 12-08-2006 05:03 PM

In some sense you can if the owner allows it too happen. There are swear filters and rules. If you allow the users to run amock cursing and hiding behind freedom of speech all you will have is anarchy and un-needed headaches / drama.

Plus you will lose the mature minded adult registrants and members. There are enough spots on the internet for children to curse in and flame openly.

Why create another, or allows users to verbally abuse what you created?
Sorry didnt mean to preach, maybe im just an old fart who knows better.

the name came from a style of music here in england. Scouse House is its birth name in the UK as it is huge in the northwest, however it does originate from australia (known as NRG music).

Donk is a type of scouse house, a little bit harder than scouse and a lot better. That is how we have the term Donked.

The website was made after i spent a weekend in wigan and absolutely loved the clubbing scene. The music played in the northeast was nothing like what they have in the northwest.

The donked website has transformed the full clubbing scene up here in the northeast after i got together with a night club owner using the website to promote his club (we gave the nightclub the busiest nights it ever had - pulling in 7000 people over 2 nights). I now have nightclubs contacting me every other week to promote events for them.

the website still makes money for me regardless of the content. like i say tho the adult humour is down to the members mainly - its pointless trying to get members to change there ways - they would just leave the site. if you cant beat them, join them.

Immortal_Shades 12-08-2006 08:43 PM

I been in the music industry for 10 years and have produced quite a few tracks. I deal with many clubs, djays and so on. Alot of house / Trance,

If you plan on doing promotions perhaps some professionalism / curse filtering will give you a better rep in the industry. But heck what do I know I suceeded in the business without the foul language and been in it for many years covering NYC and Miami.

What you must understand when you create such a site members will leave and others will come. It is better to have quality members than crappy members for the sake of keeping members. Not saying your members are crappy, but letting members run around foul mouth is like a teenage romper room.

No one is saying you cant do that. But maybe you should create a privately group in a private forum out of the public view so it doesnt turn off alot of would be respectful clients and advertisers?

I reserve such a private section with no rules privelages for Elite donating members only.

You say "Bah" you will make enough from it without filtering the curses.
Ofcourse you may make some, it's your site to do as you wish.

Why not profit from everyone rather than the few. When it comes to sites, I like to make sure I get paid from all angles and the owner, staff and rules control the site.

Not the other way around.
(/me puts away my soapbox!)

i understand what you are saying. I do make quite a bit of money from the site over 1000 GBP per month just for working with two clubs (depending on what needs doing).

The site will be shaped up over the next few weeks as i am bringing in a design section to promote my design skills. After reading through some of the feedback i think i will remove the swearing from the site, maybe not in peoples posts but at least from the welcome message and the forum category descriptions

Cheers

skin is nice. as for the swearing thats fine, everyone has a different target audience
